I have begun to realize that abt. 2 weeks before a new outbreak I become extremely fatigued,weakness, not hungry, extremely hard to get through my day. Can you advise me what to do, or what to eat to build my self up at that time so I can get through my day. I do take Valtrex, 500mg every day, and when i am feeling weak i take 2 tylenol twice a day.
I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, thats why I had the surgery. Before I had the surgery I had a flare of shingles that I have been dealing with since 2004. I was put up to the max dose of valtrex to get me through the surgery 1000 mg 3x's daily. .I had been on 500 mg valtrex 1x daily, and neurontin 600mg 2x a day and amiltriptylene 25mg. once daily as maintanance for my post herpatic pain. They put a climera patch on me out of surgery.
yes, I was told that no it would not. The more you read on here about anti-virals and test results, the more it seems like it is unclear though even with the experts.
herpes and valtrex aren't issues for this type of surgery or anesthesia. It might trigger a recurrence or it might not. No harm in upping your dose a day or two before surgery or even the day or so after surgery. If you need to skip a day too because of the surgery, that's ok too.

the endo surgery i had was in 08 and was just in my left ovarie which i had stabbing pains in that area. i am trying to rule out anything before i have to go through the endo surgery again and its not endo. or could it be vaginal nerve pain caused from the herpes? which i get nerve sensations on other parts of my body since the herpes. these are the options that i have been given by my drs and i donot know which way to go??? any way anybody can help PLEASE!!!

As far back as my early teen years I'd get an occasional cold sore on my lip. No worries I'd just get the cream and it would go away. Now I'm 40 and two weeks ago had lower back surgery. I had a small fever blister but forgot about it. Two weeks go by and I noticed all these ulcers in my mouth along my cheek and back of the throat. I panicked and went to see the doc. He said it was the type 2 herpes but only gave me 2 valtrex pills at 1gm each. What's going on?
Except the first ob, I had one in 2010 after my surgery to remove fibroids, then I had twice sexual relations with condoms that triggered me an herpes only after three days. The second time I immediately took Valtrex so after one day I was perfectly fine. So in five years only three ob. When I have an ob after sex with condom the entry of my vagina closes itself and won't allow penetration. It seems that my only trigger for ob will be sex, or will be the condom.
I have had surgery on my hand, because one doctor thought it was a spider bite. (before I went on Valtrex and got diagnosed I would have red streaks following my veins, I went to the emergency many times for this). So my question is: Has anybody experienced this? I am so confused to why our herpes has come out like this and not in the "private" areas. If anybody can help me please respond!!
Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you:

It was the first time she had had sex since being diagnosed. She told me she was on Valtrex, and we used condoms, so I felt reasonably well protected. However, the next day, she had an outbreak on her inner thigh, near the groin. I have read that sex after prolonged absintence can cause an outbreak, but also know that she could have been in the prodromal stage of an outbreak when we were together.
This all started when I woke up from surgery and had the red spot. It took three weeks to go aw and I was taking antiviral drugs and creams.. Nothing worked but it finally left. No more problems til I had sergery again 5 months later. Woke up and red spot again. Took weeks to go away again. This is the first problem that I hadnt been put to sleep and developed it.
Does Valtrex have to build up in your system for a few days to be effective against transmission or does it start working immediately? Do I have to take meds everyday to be completely effective? My partner lives out of state and I rarely see him.
I just found out I am positive for HSV2. I have never noticed any symptoms of anything they descibe on the websites. I am aware of "shedding" and realize this could be how I have outbreaks. Naturally, at 44, I never expected to face this. My dilemma is that about 6 months ago I was with intimate with someone I am still friends with. He is having open heart surgery.
Diagnosed with shingles Wednesday night - went to doctor same day symptoms started as they were significant. Started Valtrex. Have bumps on lower back near sciatic nerve on left side and on left thigh following nerve line. Entire thigh dull to touch but high pain (throbbing, etc). Pain on site at back. Also high pain, burning on left hip, stomach, behind knee. Friday morning noticed third patch of bumps on thigh (more inward) and an increase of bumps on first set of thigh bumps.
I would not think having HSV2 would affect the recovery of Hip Replacement Surgery,although you may experience slightly more outbreaks which would be quite common while your body was undergoing stress of Surgery and recovery, since Herpes is viral and not bacterial I wouldn't think it would cause any particular problems,it's a very interesting question though and I am keen to see other Members views on this and am happy to stand corrected if I am wrong.
I have taking both Valtrex & Acyclovir in the past and for me, Valtrex seems to work a lot better for clearing up an ob quicker. Since moving back to the U.S. from Europe, I cannot believe how expensive Valtrex is here in the U.S.! I just want to get confirmation that there is a Generic Valtrex that is NOT Acyclovir - it that correct? My online pharmacy is offering me Valcyclovir which is a lot cheaper than Valtrex but I just want to make sure it isn't Acyclovir before I purchase it.
And nothing with baby has changed. The meds helps keep you ready for delivery.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
