use of metronidazole in pregnancy

I have just gotten off of meds for a horrible uti. I finished the meds yesterday. They are not to be taken during pregnancy. They are macrobid and metronidazole. Just found out I'm pregnant today and I'm super worried.

t know what to do and I am sort of freaking out. I need some advice...anyone take flagyl or metronidazole vaginal inserts for BV? is this doctor correct? Should I demand more cultures or just take the meds? What happens if I don't treat BV, i've heard it can cause preterm labor, and raises risk of miscarriage, but is it safe to treat now???? HELP> > > ps. is it time for a new doctor?

Went in for my normal check up and doc told me I have a bacterial Infection, She Prescribed me "Metronidazole". I was reading up on it and it says not to be used during pregnancy! Kind of worries me, any of u ladies ever had this stuff prescribed to u?

i think there is a slight risk of eptopic pregnancy but the risk is very small, so i see no gd reason to termanate the pregnancy unless you dont want a baby

Some doctors prescribe pregnant women Metronidazole for treatment of bacterial vaginosis. As for the Ibuprofen, the 1 pill she took isn't going to hurt but they don't recommend continued use of Ibuprofen or Advil during pregnancy. They recommend Tylenol or Acetaminophen. I think your baby will be fine but if you are really concerned I suggest seeing an Obstetrician.

You get a more consistant dose instead of the one big dollop each time you use the gel form. Talk to a pharmacist though, they either know off the top off their head or will look it up. They are more educated in how the meds actually work in the body & their affects on the body.

I suspect I had it for a while before I got treated for it (first time I was on antibiotics - Metronidazole - was the end of March of this year). After being on it for 1 week, the symptoms of it stopped so I assumed I was fine and it was gone. However I did still have it/got it again and was then treated for it with the same medicine in April...probably a 3 or 4 week gap between being on it. Again, after I finished treatment I thought I was fine.

Hi ladies ! I was given this drug to help with BV. I'm currently 23 weeks as of today, and this is my first baby. Have any of you taken it before and had any issues? I started taking metronidazole yesterday I took 2 pills that day... today I realized I haven't had my period this month. So I decide to take a pregnancytest before I start my second day on metronidazole. I took the test a 3pm and both test were positive. so I stopped the pills.I was wondering if the medication made my test positive or am I really pregnant.take another prego test? & when?

Ive had it but not while pregnant.. my dr just prescribed me medication to take.. it might be a different kind since youre pregnant but im sure whatever he gives or gave you is safe.

I am 34 weeks pregnant and am very concerned about all these antibiotics (about 4) i took during my pregnancy, 3 were zithromycin z pack and one was metronidazole for bacterial vaginosis in my third trimester. For all these antibiotics, i received strong reassurance that they are safe to take to treat my common occuring respiratory infections. I am concerned. Is there anyone here who took many antbx during pregnancy and had a healthy child? AMEN...

Pre-pregnancy I flushed with a small amount of boric acid...always got rid of it. Yeast and bv is simply a sign that your vaginal pH is off allowing growth of the wrong type of bacteria. I can't lie and said I didn't do it once or twice during pregnancy, but I don't know if it's recommended..although all my kids came out fine. I used to be able to purchase powdered boric acid at the pharmacy counter at Wal-Mart, walgreens, etc. ...

I took the metronidazole at 6 wks and 10 weeks I'm 17 weeks now n my baby is strong n healthy. It won't hurt the baby at all. Just follow the instructions. But I'm going to earn you after the needs are gone I had some really nasty discharge. It freaked me out but it's normal. It's like white n clump with a lil bit of dried blood but that's just your uterus getting rid of the bacteria. It's normal. Good luck girl!

Is metronidazole safe during pregnancy??...I had some smelly discharge so I went to see a doc nd they found out I had bacteria overgrowth nd that's wat they gave me that...has anyone taken it before??

If you find that there is still an odor after you complete the full course of the pills, see your doctor and get swabbed again to check whether the BV is gone. Some women need two courses of metronidazole to get rid of BV.

Hi everyone, I would like to ask whether the use of Raglan in pregnancy due to the morning sickness can have negative effect for the baby? Because I am throwing out everything I can't eat, I even couldn't drink and was in hospital last week, and the doctor said I have to take Raglan. I have had yeast and bv infections my whole pregnancy. I just finished up another batch of metronidazole this week. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections in some women as well so have your doc prescribe flucanazole (spell check) to take after the metronidazole. It will most likely be a 7 day treatment. Mine got so bad this third trimester my va jay jay was swollen for a week. I am due with twins on Monday by c section.

have you discussed with your obgyn going on the pregnancy doses of valtrex ( 500mg 2x/day ) for the last month of pregnancy too?
