Avatar f tn for episcleritis I have been told to give 1% eye drops of Prenisolone 3x/da and pills, 100 mg 2x/day doxycycline and Nicotinamide, 500 mg 2x/day this is for a dog but I question the long term use of doxycycline because of compromise of bacteria in digestive tract causing diarhea. Guidance please? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Doxycycline nearly always causes nausea in dogs, and often vomiting. However, it is a very effective antibiotic. Has he finished the antibiotic course already? If so, then it would be a good idea if you can feed him some natural "Live" yogurt (unflavoured) daily for a few days until you see any improvement, as this will act as a pro-biotic, replacing natural gut bacteria which will have been wiped out by the long antibiotic course. This will help his digestive balance.
Avatar m tn 2 weeks after I was on a 10 days course of antibiotics called Levofloxin and I got another shot of rosphin. 3 weeks after I was on a 10 day course of Doxycycline. I took all of these antibiotics that I didn't need. What do I do to re gain my body and which test should I test for too see if I'm okay and healthy.
Avatar n tn It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.
Avatar f tn Our 7 year old yellow lab Rocco was recently diagnosed in the last stage of renal failure just a couple weeks ago. I brought him to our regular vet with symptoms of loss of appetite, bad breath & nausea. The vet did a brief exam & said his exam was unremarkable & didn’t feel like a blood work was necessary. Said he looks like a healthy dog. A week later I called the vet back & said I wanted blood work done. On a Friday they performed blood work & urinalysis.
Avatar f tn Poor Cookie! B12 would be the same vitamin whether for dogs or humans. But you would need to get the right dosage for her. I'm afraid I don't know what that is, so I would say yes, ask the vet about it. I am sure he could tell you, and maybe over the phone, so you wouldn't need to be charged for a consultation to get an answer. About the protein shakes....again I don't know for sure.
Avatar f tn After the doxycycline in liquid form my dog has been vomiting constantly. He can’t seem to swallow comfortably anymore. Even water seems to be a problem. His breath is very acidic. I tried to give him food through the syringe but he vomits everything, even after water. I gave him subq to keep him hydrated.
Avatar n tn Your dog needs a higher dose of doxy and for 30 days. My dogs have responded well to this treatment. I live in a Lyme endemic area and we don't play around with these things. As a side note: you shouldn't need to give your dog pain meds once you get the antibiotics at the right dose. They act as an anti-inflammatory medicine by themselves. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Hello, Difficulty urinating in males can be due to urinary retention which can be due to enlarged prostate due to benign prostatic hypertrophy (often called BPH) or infection of the prostate( prostatitis), any blockage in the flow of urine like any scar tissue, injury (as in a car wreck or bad fall), blood clots, infection, tumors in the pelvic region, and stones, infection or due to disruption of the delicate and complex system of nerves that connects the urinary tract with the brain and the ne
612551 tn?1450022175 Go slow. Feed him a lot of treats while he has it on, or better yet, use an activity treat. In other words, play a game that he loves or take him someplace that he loves, but only with the muzzle on. If he learns to associate the muzzle with good things, it won't be stressful for him when you get it out and put it on him. If he fusses and wants the muzzle off, get him calm before you take it off, even if he's only momentarily calm. Pick your moment, when removing it.

Avatar f tn Doxycycline is probably the best since it seems most effective in preventing dogs from becoming silent carriers of the disease organism in their kidneys after recovery. Continuing with fluids and supportive care is essential. The numbers will need re checking once the antibiotics are finished, as the drugs will alter blood levels disproportionately.
Avatar f tn Because my dog interacts with other dogs a lot, when he developed a "cough" I immediately took him to the vet. He had no fever, is eating and drinking normally and his activity level is normal - he doesn't at all act like a sick dog. I have kept him away from other dogs to avoid getting them sick. The vet diagnosed him with kennel cough and put him on Doxycycline 100 mg - he takes 1 1/2 pills twice a day. He started them on Tuesday. He has also had a Bordetella vaccine.
1831920 tn?1320857757 I suggest you look up some articles on crate training and have your husband read them. We are not talking in humane crating here. He probably has visions if puppy mill dogs. Many of us here are experienced and "humane" dog people. Dogs are basically den animals. All my dogs have usually gone in their crates on their own to nap, my little one is in her crate now. I leave the door open. If your dog is ill or injured, the crate comes in handy.
984138 tn?1359813073 doxycycline is the generic form of this certain antibiotic. a lot of times this upsets ones stomach. if it does your doctor can recommend doryx. its the brand name version and is a lot more easily absorbed without side effects. the only thing is its really expensive.. der BRAND name.. and ins. might not cover it because a generic form is available.. even when the doc says i specifically cannot take the generic.. stingy dirtbags >:P if no luck there ask for doxycycline hyclate.
Avatar f tn Hismanal (astemazole) an H1 histamine receptor blocker was taken off the market because of the occurrence of a number of abnormal heart rhythms, some potentially fatal. Sudafed is still available in the U.S. but not OTC. It is extremely unlikely that the double dosed medication you took would have caused any permanent damage to your heart or any other organ. Therefore the murmur is unrelated to Hismanal or Sudafed.
Avatar m tn I also had some doxycycline left over in my house from when my dogs got sick a few months ago. I read that doxycycline can be used to treat the treatable STDs. I began taking 100 mg, twice a day, 2 days ago (got that from online as well). Could the discomfort in my genitalia be a side effect from the doxycycline? Should I continue to take the doxycycline? How long should I take it?
Avatar m tn t seen anything specific to your case. But like I said above they do use low dose tetracycline (doxy is a derivative of tetra or is in the same class) for rosacea and mastitis etc. Apparently, it keeps down flare ups by preventing inflammation. "Hardware" does tend to get infected so they must use doxy (for now) as a preventive. The Staphylococci tend to like especially plastics but they will attach to other things.
Avatar m tn 1 of mutual masturbation, a lot of vaginal fluid from a woman (of unknown status) was in direct contact with my penis. Vaginal fluid seeped through both our underwear and I had some on my hand which I used touched my penis. I also fingered her and immediately put my fingers, with her vaginal fluid on them in my mouth. I went to a GP to complain of urethral sensations/small amounts of clear discharge. He prescribed 2g azithromycin to be taken all at once.
Avatar m tn July 4th was the worst it had felt overall and I started using a heat pad to make the pain subside in my back. The pain was making me sick almost to the point of vomiting. I went to an express clinic about two weeks ago and again had a urine test run. It came back negative of any bacteria and no signs of anything strange but again I was prescribed Doxycycline. I've taken it for about two weeks with my symptoms not really changing except for my back pain going away (thank god).
Avatar f tn Start with assertive and positive training of both dogs. Get a clicker and a large bag of small treats that they will only get from your hand, and only when they do a good thing. First, you want both dogs to LOOK AT YOU when you click, and when they do this, treat them immediately. When you are in any situation that is upsetting for your doxy, click, treat and draw his attention to you. Encourage him to look to you for his every need, be it comfort, excersize, play.
Avatar m tn t be coming from the phenobarbital. The usual side effects in canines from phenobarbital use are lethargy, polydipsia (increased thirst), polyuria (increased urination), polyphagia (increased appetite), anxiety and weight gain. From the symptoms I think your vet is probably right on the money with the diagnosis of a mass in the brain, but I doubt that the tremors signify pain because you said they are of short duration.
Avatar f tn They have extensive databases at their hands specifically for the purposes of researching drug interactions. This is not the type of question you should rely on a bunch of internet strangers for an accurate answer.
