Avatar n tn We then did a CBC and he tested positive for Anaplasmosis. He was immediately started on 50 mg of Doxycycline and given Tramadol for pain (I've added around 150mg of aspirin occasionally for inflammation). After initially improving (dramatically), his symptoms don't seem to be any better. I convinced the vet to give me another two weeks of Doxycycline, as they only gave me a two week supply, but it's been 10 days already and I'm concerned that I'm chasing a wild goose.
Avatar f tn for episcleritis I have been told to give 1% eye drops of Prenisolone 3x/da and pills, 100 mg 2x/day doxycycline and Nicotinamide, 500 mg 2x/day this is for a dog but I question the long term use of doxycycline because of compromise of bacteria in digestive tract causing diarhea. Guidance please? Thanks!

Avatar n tn Most of the tick borne diseases do respond to doxycycline, but Babesia does not respond to doxycycline and must be treated with medications that your dog has not been treated with yet including clindamycin with metronidazole, and others. Another uncommon disease that fits many of Lola's symptoms is canine histiocytosis. There is quite a lot of information about canine histiocytosis in the following Pub Med linked journal article (though it may be a bit technical): http://www.ncbi.
Avatar n tn Vet started on Doxycycline 25mg 2X per day for 30 days. Given these symptoms and inability to locate herniated/ruptured disc on the CT, is it possible the arched back and serology results, along with the vomiting bile, lethargy, depression and failure to eat were all symptoms of the Rickettsia, and not a ruptured disc?

Avatar n tn then the PCR test was done and results were positive for mycoplasma, so we did 3 weeks on doxycycline (cycle ended yesterday). some improvement, but now more sneezing and still some clear eye discharge. yesterday, our vet recommended 2-3 additional weeks on doxy, told me it could be allergies or just a stubborn mycoplasma infection. if 2-3 more weeks don't stop the symptoms, we could see an internist for a CAT scan and another test to look up the cat's nasal passages. any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Thanks very much for the quick response. I would very grateful of some follow up. You are correct when you assume I asked the GUM clinic staff the same questions, however frustratingly, the nurse practitioner refused to answer any questions I had regarding potential interferences between simultaneous (or thereabouts) use of azithromycin and doxycycline. I want to be 100% sure I clear any potential infection so that's why I wanted to use both.
Avatar f tn Ive just been prescribed doxycycline to cure my chlamydia (i hope finally) and i know i have to take it for seven days and refrain from sex. But after the seven days, am i ok to have sex again with my partner?? do we need to wear a condom?? or will it be cured?
Avatar n tn I usually use 250 mg of Cipro for a 60-70 pound dog. However, the side effects of the Cipro should have subsided by now. Since the problem with your dog began as a vomiting issue did any of the vets discuss performing endoscopy, a barium study, or special dietary regiman? Did they discuss the possibility of food allergy gastritis? Did they mention giving your dog a medication called Celexa or Reglan, (or other medication that are anti-nausea and vomiting) medications?

Avatar n tn However, has your vet tested for all tick borne, rickettsial diseases, including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesiosis, and Anaplasmosis? Babesiosis is not treated with doxycycline. How about toxoplasmosis, also not treated with doxycycline? The list of possible infectious agents is very extensive! A very serious cause of thrombocytopenia is Neoplasia.

Avatar n tn t say where you live, but if I were you I would look into any veterinary colleges in your state. They have state of the art equipment when it comes to diagnostics and even though veterinary students work on the animals, they are just inches away from graduating and they work under the close supervision of their professors, who are veterinary professors and doctors themselves. As far as payment goes, look into Care Credit.
