Common Questions and Answers about Urine test strips diabetes

Avatar n tn Urine test reveals, more often than not, the presence of diabetes. That was certainly the case with me. However, in early stages or in the pre-diabetes stage your kidneys may not be 'spilling out" the excess glucose from your blood and one may get a false sense security. This situation can last for a number of years with consequent damage to your organs by the high blood glucose.
Avatar m tn if the expiration date on the test strips has passed, are the test strips still good?
Avatar m tn You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).
Avatar f tn They did not send the urine to a lab. I do not have an infection as the urine strips test for leukocytes (which are fighting infection cells)..
Avatar n tn Last night he tested positive for keytones in his urine. According to the test strips he had moderate to large ketones. Today he continues to test positive but with definate large results. I took him to see his pediatric doctor today and he actually call in an associate to look at him, also. Although together the two doctors ran all kinds of test on my grandson all they could really find wrong with him was large levels of keytones, a fever, and general flu like symtoms.
Avatar f tn Testing the urine is one way to check for ketones. You can pick up urine test strips at your local drug store. Just follow the instruction to do the test. If I remember right if the test strip turnes pick you have ketones in your urine, plus the strip tells you if there is blood, glucose, and a couple other things. But If I were you I would go get checked out just incase. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Dear ttrue0724, It really is going to hurt you to have high ketones. It is one of the things that causes diabetic coma in undiagnosed type 1's, used to be known as juvenile. And your blood sugars are far too high. Blood sugars like these can be reason enough for a hospital admission. You may want to contact the medicaid office in your state to get them to cover you medically. You are doing your body no good at all in this current state of being.
709686 tn?1277432159 One portiion of the physical is they take a urine sample to check for sugar. My test did not reveal sugar/glucose in the urine. Over the past few years I've had several blood tests done to see if I'm diabetic and each one comes back negative. My question is this. Is it possible to be diabetic when all tests come back negative? I seem to have all the symptoms and my grandfather died from diabetes at a very young age. HELP!
Avatar f tn 5 is pre-diabetic and over 6.5 is diabetic. I would request this test from your doctor and if he wants to test only urine, I would request another doctor, or do your own testing with a glucose meter or an A1C testing kit either one of which you can purchase at any drugstore.
Avatar f tn I'm looking for help with diabetic supplies, mainly test strips and lancets. I have two different meters-One Touch Ultra Mini and Accu-Chek Aviva. Is there any place to get free supplies or very low cost supplies for these meters? Your suggestions ar greatly appreciated! Thank you !
Avatar n tn I am unsure about what I have, but I can tell you that when I tested my blood sugar, after fasting (14 hours), it was about 124, but then I realized the test strips were expired. I went to the doctor and the found a high amount of protein in my urine, and also ketones, but no sugar in. (I was tested about two hours after a large meal too, so the ketones were not out of starvation, and I do not exercise.) They have always seen protein in my urine also.
Avatar f tn Another thing. Do you have any ketone strips? If not you can buy them at any pharmacy or grocery store in the diabetes area. Run one of the strips under your dog's urine stream and see if he has ketones in his urine. If he does he needs to get into the vet's ASAP.
Avatar m tn I have been on it for years and it’s really got me concerned. I took three strips the other day and ended up with so much blood in urine, I went to hospital. Please let me know your journey.
Avatar f tn If the sugar level in the body is high, this would be detected in a urine specimen test using the urine test strips. It depends on how much glucose is in the blood stream to whether it shows up on the urine sample test. Eating any type of food, and especially high glucose foods when having a hypoglycaemic attack would bring the sugar levels up. Although a sugary food may be needed immediately, it is important to have slow energy release foods.
Avatar f tn So I have gestational diabetes and it gets pretty bad sometimes and I'm already on medicine for it.. well I'm supposed to keep track of my blood sugar four time a day and I haven't been able to since last Friday which is not good... I haven't been able to because I ran out of test strips for my blood sugar meter and I am absolutely broke and have no way to get any so I have no clue when the next time I can test my blood sugar will be.
Avatar n tn But if you really did have something wrong like a gallstone or other bile blockage, then the urine test will remain constant in showing the problem on repeated tests. If you didn't have the strip stored properly, the testing chemicals on the strip will become compromised/contaminated and will give you the crazy results. Be sure your test strips are stored in a small, airtight container. And that you use a clean urine collection cup as well.
Avatar f tn s suggestion to use your meter to ascertain your glucose status should positively determine if you require insulin. Keep your meter and plenty of test strips on hand.
Avatar f tn I have been scared of ngu or some other form of infection. I have used multiply uti test strips which test white blood cell count in urine. None have been positive, one or two showed trace amount of wbc (I've taken about 18 tests). Would these show an infection (ngu) if one existed???
Avatar f tn This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. You can test its presence by test strips available OTC. If this is positive and you have smell of rotten eggs in urine then you need to cut down food items that contain sulfites. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine.
Avatar n tn Hi Chaquita! I am not a medical professional, just a mom of an 18 year old who was diagnosed at the age of 21 months, so any information I provide to you should be verified with your son's doctor. It is always best to have any noticed health changes checked out by medical professionals. Based on my experience with the healthcare system, I wouldn't make any assumptions. When it comes to your health, no news is just that...no news.
Avatar n tn The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.
Avatar f tn Quick test of urine with strips and that came up normal. So my doctor mentioned that possibly this symptom is anxiety related. It just bothers me that I wake up in the middle of night and then have this slight urgency to pee as I've never had this before (even if it's not really intense, like that desperate feeling). Even so, I'm still concerned and so I decided to use my father's Bayer Contour meter and just test out my blood sugar level as I haven't done this in years.
Avatar m tn I got a home testing kit to test for glucose in the urine. I've tested on several different occasions today and they all came back negative. Is this a good sign? Could doing this one test rule out diabetes or doesn't this pick up diabetes at all?
