Avatar f tn If they detect traces of something, can I claim I occasionally used a patch and/or nicotine gum, and get away with it? or would the nicotine from patches/gum show up differently in this test?

Avatar f tn My significant other chews nicotine gum. I know, it’s not healthy. My question is can nicotine pass through their skin to our baby from their skin/pores? They don’t smoke, just chew the nicotine gum. Thank you.

Avatar f tn I found this.. hope it helps "Pregnant women using nicotine patches and gum to help kick their smoking habit are harming their unborn babies, scientists claim. They say the addictive substance is absorbed by the foetus and this can cause high blood pressure and heart problems later in life. American researchers suspect that nicotine causes harmful chemicals to form in the babies’ blood vessels while they are still in the womb.
Avatar f tn I have been a smoker most of my life, I quit smoking approxamitely two years ago with the help of nicotine gum.
Avatar n tn 1) Nicotine patches and nicotine gum are available over-the-counter. The nicotine nasal spray and nicotine inhaler are currently available only by prescription from a doctor. 2) These products provide a small amount of nicotine that will help relieve many of the withdrawal symptoms that a smoker may feel when quitting. 3) The goal is to be free of both cigarettes and the nicotine substitute within three to six months.
Avatar f tn I was addicted to both Skoal dip and Nicotine Gum. I have never seen anyone speak of an addiction as hard as mine. I chewed nicotine gum - 4 MG - at a rate of between 6 and 10 pieces at a time. And I did this all day long, every single day. I was spending about 300 a month buying gum! No matter what I did I could not stop for long. I also killed off a can of dip every day - sometimes 1.5 cans. I could pack an entire can into my mouth in one sitting!
Avatar n tn I used an occasional piece of nicotine gum for about a week, but I soon figured out as long as I was using the gum I still was addicted and finally just stopped the gum. If you quit smoking in December 2009, you should only have the occasional urge to smoke, and I would urge you to simply sit on your hands for that urge period until it passes. If possible, I'd urge you to do aerobic exercise daily as well. Congratulations for getting rid of those pimp sticks!
Avatar m tn t give me enough nicotine early on. (With the gum, you just increase or decrease your usage by a few as a piece or two.) Weaning from the gum was easy because I got really tired of chewing. (That's a plus.) By the time I weaned myself off of the gum, I had gone from about 13 pieces a day to 1-3. So I wasn't getting much nicotine by then anyway.
424247 tn?1203558853 And yes if someone is going to tell me to chew regular gum,,,yes I have tried that as well. Its not the same as the gum, Oh and the gum just like cigerettes there is only one certain gum I chew, I do have an addicted personality,,, Im a recovered Alcholic as well. I just wonder if the gum is real bad for me.
Avatar n tn buy the gum at sams club, much less expensive
Avatar f tn I have been on it ever since. I guess I am coming to the realization that this nicotine gum can be very bad for your health if chewed past the recommended timeframe. I have been having stomach problems for the last 6-9 months that were fueled by a stressful job that I am no longer in. I had an endoscopy done in February of this year and a small eroded area in the opening of my stomach was detected. They also noted two small ulcers. Thankfully none of the areas tested positive for h pylori.
Avatar n tn Chantix blocks nicotine receptors in the brain; therefore, the gum will be a waste, because it will have absolutely no effect on you. So money down the drain is all it would be. Maybe regular gum to keep your mouth "busy"? I'm doing just the gum because I have PTSD (so they say) and my doctor was concerned about flashbacks and other issues that arise from Chantix use. Hope this helps, and best of luck! Been smoking for 45 years, quit the 15th, and I'm doing well!
Avatar m tn Google Online Pharmacy, Nicotine gum, ect. --- I payed $18.99 tax and shipping free for 105 pieces of 4mg. brand name Nicorette gum.
Avatar f tn OK, sorry about misinterpreting your post about the weight loss. Well, nicotine withdrawal's a major shock when done abruptly by a heavy smoker (hence the popularity of doctors prescribing nicotine patches or nicotine gum [the latter's available OTC in many areas] to help take the edge off nicotine withdrawal symptoms).
Avatar f tn No why don't you try nicotine gum and see if that helps i think it's called nicorette gum
1825702 tn?1317577765 I haven't talked to him about it because i know what he's going to say. I'm just trying to get my panic attacks under control. When I started the adderal and wellbutrin they helped a little bit. However when I take a test or meet people of authority(my boss, professors, etc) i tense up, words come out the wrong way, and i end up not being social because i'm overly concerned about what i say.
1162347 tn?1293503170 And then you have to face your demons a second time to give up the gum. I gave up smoking by using nicotine gum. That was November 28, 2006. Until 2 weeks ago I was still chewing the nicotine gum: between 20-30 pieces each day of 2 mg. I've been not feeling all that great for a long time but the clincher was my hair. I have long, wavy, beautiful hair and get lots of compliments each week on my hair. But I've been noticing for about a year that I seem to be losing a lot of hair.
Avatar n tn The nicotine test is done on urine, not blood for insurance underwriting. If they test for cotanine, that substance stays in your system much longer.

Avatar m tn hi like so many i gave up smoking about 4 years ago and now i am addicted two the gum i have been two my gp two try and get help or advice but all my gp says is try cutting down piece by piece each week which im trying at the moment but after a few hours i begin two feel as though im getting cravings just like i had when i first gave the fags up as any one got any tips please
Avatar f tn I think switching to another source for nicotine like the chewing gum can be irritating at first but once you start to derive pleasure from it, it starts to feel fantastic in a week or less. Its better to be dependent on a chewing gum and avoiding other carcinogens etc Going cold turkey can be hurtful and depressing for a few days but with the support of NRT you feel a bit more confident as long as the nicotine is replaced through a new door way this time and with time you begin to feel free.
12832842 tn?1448728801 My husband was reading on it. Articles from Europe and another recent one I believe here. ( U.S.). For example nicotine gum for when your at a time/place fatigue or tiredness hits you. Chewing the gum supposedly helps. And there's talk of how it protects myelin. Not smoking.. But a patch or gum. I don't know.. I'm skeptical so I thought I'd throw it out there to you all who have been so helpful to the newly diagnosed like me!!
Avatar f tn I would assume since quitting smoking takes 72 hrs, it would be the same for the gum? Personally, I think the gum is just as dangerous as inhaling. I bought it and used it one time. Figured if I was gonna still get nicotine in my system, my as well smoke. Anyway, eventually stopped cold turkey and hung on to god and kathyjo and jade. Praise God, one day at a time. Never take another puff.
Avatar n tn All I know of is using nicotine gum (to ease the craving for nicotine) and elastic band snapping against your wrist (to distract and help replace the habit of handling cigarettes). To help alleviate the nervous tension you're likely contending with you could carry something calming (such as: a puzzle book, some knitting project or whatever you find helpful that lets you ride out an urge). I do know it's much easier to change habits than to drop one.
Avatar f tn I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m still using the nicotine gum and, I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. Booo hooo because I love the gum. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum now. Scheesch, if it’s not one thing, it's another thing when it comes to addiction!
