Trileptal neuropathic pain

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal neuropathic pain

trileptal

Avatar m tn There are two kinds of pain with MS muscle spasms and nerve pain. You can also have secondary pain from gait problems such as favoring one side such as hip or knee pain. For muscle spasm they can give you a muscle relaxer like Baclofen and Zyprexa. For nerve pain they can use something such as Gabenpentin, Lyrica, Trileptal. I have a lot of pain so I was sent to a pain clinic. Dealing with pain will not cover up a MS diagnosis. I wish I had done it before a diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear Kirby12, Peripheral nerve stimulation appears to be a safe and effective approach in the treatment of craniofacial neuropathic pain. Peripheral nerve stimulation has been effectively used to treat neuropathic pain. You should consult your neurologist regarding this treatment option. 1559533 tn?1308948561 I take Depakote and Trileptal for Neuropathic pain. I do not think they would make a diagnosis more difficult. They had me take them when I had a EEG and other sensory testing. They did not hinder my basic Neurological testing reflexes and such. My personal feeling is if you can get relief from symptoms before a diagnosis that is good. Why suffer more than you have to?
Avatar n tn it, a bag of frozen vegetables on the affected part does give some relief. Neuropathic pain drugs such as Neurontin, Doxepin, Amitriptyline etc also help but they can take a few days to kick in. I hope you find some relief soon.
739070 tn?1338603402 After the first disorientation episode , the neuro thought it was the Trileptal I was using for neuropathic leg pain and had me wean off of it. Several days (3-4) later I was hit by intense vertigo and treated with IV steroids . This disorientation occurred agian about a month later and after the Trileptal was discontinued. Again, since I could not stand or take fluids easily...another round of steroids which helped the vertigo but did not make it disappear.
5485096 tn?1375574235 I thought the aspect of spasam vs neuropathic pain is it normal to try to fix with neuropathic pain med first before spasam pain ? How do we know the difference? The pain I have I am thinking is a possibility of a flare with the intensity (I think this is a month long on going flare.. Or longer ?!?!?) I am still avoiding steroids bc of side effects.... I am just so confused with what to do sometimes. I feel like I am always batteling something lately :( ugh the annoyance!!!
233622 tn?1279334905 My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized). Though it worked at first, I eventually needed too high a dose, so, my gp put me on lyrica which was created for diabetic neuropathy. It works, it takes a while for it to build up in your system tho, so that it works.
1660929 tn?1319758789 I take Depakote (for migraine nothing else worked for me) Trileptal (for my other Nerve pain), Zanaflex (for spasms) and Butrans (a pain patch). Since the pain patch I have been able to reduce all other medications by half and I take the lowest dose of it. Now that the pain is better regulated I can exercise more which make the pain better as well. Yesterday at a talk I found a new stretch to help a muscle which causes pain down my leg. They can also do other things to help pain.
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it

620048 tn?1358018235 I have pain in my left arm and both legs. I am on multiple meds as the neuro and pain management feel it is neuropathic in nature. I take gabapentin, nortrityline, Trileptal in addition to IV ketamine. The ketamine has seemed to have lost it's charm but the other 3 are still working hard, something I learned when I tried to decrease the gabapentin. Amtriptyline or nortriptyline are great adjuncts (helpers) in combination with gabapentin.
738075 tn?1330575844 Doctor's that listen are good :-) Med wise speaking, There are others you may be able to swap in for the gabapentin. It stopped working for my neuropathic foot pain so I's just switched to Lyrica. Tomorrow is the end of first week on Lyrica alone. Relief is pretty good and no side effects. Congrats on your new doc!
Avatar m tn My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????
147426 tn?1317265632 We were lucky enough to have a pain managment doc land on our forum last week. He has agreed to feed us some info on data, written for the person with no medical knowledge. He emails me the info and I will place it on the forum. I am so jazzed! PAIN - The Musical There are fundamentally two types of pain in world: "normal pain" and "neuropathic pain". Normal pain happens when someone kicks me in the shins.
Avatar f tn Hi Carola, Until a month ago I was taking gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. I started at the low end of the dosage scale and worked my way up to the maximum, 1200mg 3X/day. I did not experience any side effects. All by itself, the gabapentin did not relieve the pain. So we added Elavil (amitriptilyne) to the mox and the pain went away. I was pain free for about a year and then it returned about 6 weeks ago. I've weened off the gabapentin and added Lyrica to the cocktail.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I'm wondering if anyone else has numb fingertips as a side effect from Trileptal...I am currently taking 600 mg. I'm also being worked up for MS, so I don't know if this is from the drug I take for TN or from some other cause?? Thanks.
