I have ulcerative colitis for a few years, I been in hospital a couple of times but the last time i was in it was due to the pain killing drug meloxicam for joint pain. I am almost sure celelbrex is in the same family, so to speak, as meloxicam.. I ended up losing the lining of my stomach. I had had a problem with anti flams for a while and i new i couldnt take celebrex as i had terrible cramps in my stomach.
However, I would like to say to I have been plagued with ulcerative colitis for 24 years. I have now been in remission for almost 5 years!!! What happened to bring on a remission period so long? I happened to change my diet due to another health problem. Basically, I stopped buying red meat and cooking it at home: beef, pork, lamb. We now eat lots of fish, and free-run chicken and turkey, as well as vegetarian meals. I still eat it out occasionally, but it is not a mainstay of my diet.
I was diagnosed with chronic Ulcerative Colitis when I was 25, In 2001 I had my entire large bowel removed, had a temporary illiostomy bag and then the reversal so now I have a Jpouch.
I seem to relapse with pouchitis quite often and the pain I experience is very painful on the right side of my tummy.
Currently I am taking oxynorm, Targin, tramadol to assist with my pain.
What are the periods of flare-ups or remission for ulcerative colitis?...

No I have not. I don't have diarhrea or bleeding along with the mild pain, which
are usually part of those two conditions. Maybe in the early stages you don't
have all the symptoms.
Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
Ulcerative colitis can lead to the symptoms you describe, among other diseases.
I would also consider celiac disease, malabsorption, or other types of lower GI infections.
If there is blood on the stool, or if the diarrhea continues, a colonoscopy should be performed.
Sending the stool off for culture and analysis can be done to exclude infection or malabsorption.
If celiac disease is suspected, blood antibody tests can be done as well.

I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.

Those are symptoms of ulcerative colitis and it doesn't have to hurt to be serious. You really need to get to the doctor and have this investigated.
If it is mixed throughout your stool it might be something called ulcerative colitis. But ulcerative colitis would have symptoms of loose stools and sharp stomach pains. Do you have any stomach pains or loose stools?
Recently doctor gave me tetracycline oilment to apply on my anus and when the oilment went into the opening I felt sharp pain. Will topical oilement cause ulcerative colitis due to irritants inside the lining of the anus?
I wanted to let u know that last year I was taking tramadol for ulcerative colitis and I had a ground mall seizure in my home. Thank god my husband was home to call 911. I am 32 and have never had a history of seizures. The docs came to the conclusion that it was caused by the tramadol. They also said if u take to much it can cause one. Talk to u're doctor do not detox on u're own... Good luck to ya.
