Metabolism of tramadol and M1 is reduced in patients with advanced cirrhosis of the liver resulting in a larger area under the serum-concentration-versus-time to curve tramadol and longer tramadol and M1 elimination half-lives (13 hrs. for tramadol and 19 hrs. for M1). In cirrhotic patients adjustment of the dosing regimen is recommended (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION).

My Dr has tried Flexeril, Skelaxin, 500 mg of naproxen and it hasn't work. Now she prescribe tramadol. I have read bad things about it and its side effects. Everything is dated from a few years ago, so I would like update from anyone that is taking it. I was prescribed 50mg/4 times a day as needed. I have read that it causes drowiness but people state that it actually gives them energy (I have insomnia- also on my 3th medication because Ambien, Lunesta didn't work. Now on Tranzodone).

What is the most important information I should know about tramadol? Physical Dependence and Abuse ULTRAM may induce psychic and physical dependence of the morphine-type (μ-opioid) (see DRUG ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE). ULTRAM should not be used in opioid-dependent patients. ULTRAM has been shown to reinitiate physical dependence in some patients that have been previously dependent on other opioids.
In overdose Tramadol causes unpleasant effects such as nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and a small percentage of people may be prone to seizures especially if it is taken in combination with certain other drugs. If you overdose on Tramadol there is little risk of dying but if you do the same with an over the counter drug containing acetaminophen there is a significant risk of dying from liver failure. The main downside of Tramadol lies in it being subtly addictive.
I have tried to cut down, and I get terrible headaches, cramps, aches, vomiting, unbearable fatigue and depression. I want to stop taking it because it doesn't help my headaches much, and I don't want to need a pill to feel normal. 1. Is it really worth tapering, or am I just prolonging my misery? I tried cutting down to 6 a day and felt terrible. Would I be better off going cold turkey?? And how long will I feel like dying if I do? 2.
Once they have transmitted a message they are normally reabsorbed (taken up), however, drugs like Prozac and tramadol which also contains anti-depressant elements have the effect of blocking the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine so that more remains circulating in your blood. When you stop taking the drug, serotonin and other brain chemicals will be out of whack for a while & this is where it is helpful to supplement with amino acids etc to help them recover.
Then I went to a phycologist and talked to her about my eating dissorder and then told her about the tramadol and how it helpped me to curb my hunger. She said that she couldnt help me and that I need to contact a rehab center but it was so hard for me to get up enough nerve just to tell her. No one can help me. Im not the typical addict you know. Im well educated Im married with a small child and we are living in upper class america the big house and everything.
The side effects are extremely serious such as seizures, vomiting, etc., etc. So that is my experience with it and I can handle just about any med and also have a iron-hard stomach. It is also marketed under the name of Ultram. Best to all.........
I read in one of the threads that you can't mix tramadol and antidepressants. Is this true? What are the risks? My Dr. has me on both - I am trying to very slowly cut back on the Tram. I pill every week. I know it is painfully slow - but it is all I am able to do right now. I am working on alternative pain management methods, and getting the courage up to dump the pills once and for all.
I'm so impatient that I may just take the Suboxone right now and find out for myself. Scary! If my arms and legs start going insane (more than they already are) I'll be back to let everyone know not to ever take Suboxone so soon after taking Tramadol.
need to do own research) i stopped all med for 48 hrs and tramadol and prozac permantenly and immediatly began feeling better...i called my dr when i figured out what was wrong and her nurse said she (the doc) doesn't think i had that...i left her and every time i mention this story to docs i encounter they are blown away no-one helped me...
My last dose of tramadol was last Friday and I am in full blown withdrawels. Panic, heart racing, vomiting, headache, cold, hot, brain zaps to name a few. Have been reading alot of this and it looks like it's the norm for this demon drug. Anyone else going thru this right now? I feel so alone.
Hi there I successfully tapered off tramadol and yes we are not allowed to give specific advice. I will tell you that for me I did it over several months with a gradual decrease every 7 days. It is completely possible and I truly believe tramadol should be tapered. Slow and steady is the way to go. You do have to commit to a taper and it is hard work but it does help when you taper all the way down.
today is the first day without them and I had to leave work sick. I was feeling very achy and fatigued. I just need to know if I should wean off slowly and how long these withdrawal symptoms will last. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

My doctor prescribed me various narcotics including Vicodin, which I'm taking now. I am addicted to both Tramadol and Vicodin. I know I have to get off of it, but I am scared to death that I'm going to become very depressed, and the reason being is that I had be diagnosed with depression at a very young age (I am 34 now) as well as ADD. I like how I feel when I'm taking Vicodin. I am motivated and sociable. Without it I am severly depressed and withdrawn.
symptoms -mainly stomach pains, but no vomiting; fatigue; headaches(light sensitive) which only starrted when i got to half dosages and seem to have eased; dry mouth; constipation (normal for painkillers i think); diohrrea (mild); chills&sweats (but only slightly low temp -35.5) Restless Limb Syndrome,i think from some anti-nausia tablets; depression -mild suicidal thoughts etc. I was on 2x200mg of slow release but went to 50mg to wean off.
wow that is scary that you had no idea it was withdrawal! I was just looking to see if any news stories had been done on it...Google Tramadol and ABC news and it looks like kids are trying it and call them "ultras". Now THAT is scary! There are a few of us tapering so you have company here, Sailing.

Turns out Aleve is not broken down and passed thru the liver and tramadol is. I am back on Tramadol and have the hyperness and dry mouth but hopefully it will get the weight off. By the way, I have fibromyalgia.
I know its been a while since you all posted about tramadol, and withdrawals and such. But I am really looking forward in some help right now. I've been on tramadol for 5 years at 8 pills a day..I've just recently, about 6 months ago started gradually tapering up to 4-6 a day. Felt fine, no withdrawals.
I was prescribed tramadol 9 months ago. My dr messed up my tubes being ties and i had a few surgeries, part of my stomach cut out and was hooked to a wound vac for a couple of months. All of this was very painful but i told my dr I did not want to take pain pills because I was terrified of becoming addicted because I knew I would have lots of pain over a long period. he told me that tramadol was not addictive so I should take that. It is I discovered very addictive.
HI, I have been on Tramadol for 5 years. I had severe pain before I got a hip operation and kept on tramadol after it. I tried to quit a few times and the pain came back and I started up again. Three days ago I decided to quit for good. I was getting bloated, could not loose weight. I was getting depressed, anxiety, tired etc. I kept working out and excercising. No results on the weight loss. This time I started getting severe pain in my hip, drop leg, tingling in the leg.
So I'm hooked on tramadol, without which I can't really walk with my back and the detox is hell, and living in a country where I can get them cheaply, without a prescription, at about 50 locations within a 5 minute walk to my house. Good news: they do have AA here! Bad news: NOT IN INGLES, and my lazy butt hasn't learned Spanish yet. I've tried quitting cold turkey a few times and haven't made in more than 2-3 days. I'm still not drinkin though.
I developed appendcittis in Jan and while in the hospital they stopped my Tramadol and I had insomnia every night there for a week. After coming home the insomnia persisted plus old chronic pain was pretty intense because I wasn't getting the hospital pain meds. My doctor switched me to Utram ER 50 mg twice a day which took the edge off the pain and I was finally able to sleep.
right? That night was one of the worst experiences of my life, if not THE worst. I woke and began vomiting and had severe diarhea. The crying was unrelenting and powerful. I could not stop crying for days. I say "for days" because I eventually found a way to get another prescription (more on that later.) It was so bad that I called a friends mother who was hooked on opiates during the time I was a teenager.
