topical clonidine for pain

my doctor gave me clonidine to take at night with my regurlar blood pressure medicine in the am and i read up on it and it said don't take with rx pain meds so I haven't but I also noticed that it is used for w/d's so how long do you have to wait after your out of pain meds can you start taking it?

I went to see my doc and he wants me to continue taking the conidine and ativan but to reduce the clonidine to .1 for two days, then 05 for a day then stop it. He advised just to take the avtivan at night until I can fall alseep on my own. He also gave me some roxicet and told me to take 3 today, 2 tomorrow and one the next day. He claims this will help me with cravings until I get into rehab where I can get something tradition for the craving...I start rehab on Monday and it lasts 5 weeks.....

However, there is no single treatment can help here but Capsaicin (topical applications), Clonidine (topical applications),EMLA (an anesthetic which hospitals use to numb the skin before IV), nerve blocks, nortriptyline and carbamazepine (tegretol) can be tried with the help of a doctor. It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?

anyone have any info on using Clonidine .1 mg for opiate withdrawal systems? Suppose to be a high blood pressure medication, but says it can be used for withdrawal systems too? wondering if it really works?

I tapered down to 6 and then saw a doc and got on Prestiq (anti-depressant), Clonidine for the withdrawal and Klonopin for Anxiety and she gave me Ambien CR for at night and in 3 days, I went CT yesterday. At first it really took away the WD feeling, but last night it was torture. I took the ambien, the klonopin and I took .1 mg of clonidine. and my legs were driving me absolutley insane, up all night in pain. My question is, can I take a higher dose of the .

Theres no otc pain relievers that Im aware of that have negative interaction with clonidine, and yes you can take immodium. I take clonidine still to this day for my blood pressure and I use naproxen, aspirin,tylenol etc. and I was taking immodium during my detox while on clonidine. If you want to be safe go to drugs.com and look up clonidine and it will tell you all the possible interactions it can have. As far as I know there shouldnt be anything to worry about.

How long do you normally take clonidine for withdrawal symptoms from Oxycontin and Percocet?

I ran out two weeks early. I was honest with my dr and he put me on clonidine 3 pills a day for 3 days and a patch. It worked I almost feel like my old self. When he refills my meds next week I'm going to not take them unless I am in extreme pain. Learned my lesson!

I took Clonidine for several days during detox. It really did make a difference in helping with my withdrawl symptoms. Helped to keep me calmer and in my skin. I also had a few tranzene that I took ( I cut them in halves ) . These two things along with the Immodium and otc pain meds were a hugh help for me.

Yes I am working on tapering off the pain meds. It is not working so well right now due my Phych. putting me on Strattera for ADHD and I had to stop it due to the fact it was cutting down on the effectiveness of the pain meds. I am almost thinking my main doctor is using it for the ween down from the meds and in place of a ADHD med till the phych. can get me on something different. My main doctor is trying to work with my phych. but has trouble getting a hold of him.

Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?

For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.

I just wanted to say that my psychiatrist just prescribed clonidine for anxiety. I am on Klonopin also. I couldn't find much info on using clonidine for anxiety, but at least now I know it's been prescribed for other people with anxiety too. I do NOT have high blood pressure.

1mg at 10am, 4 pm since i started and trazodone 100mg at night for sleep... anyone have experience with these? ive heard clonidine if you just stop taking it it can spike your blood pressure... and trazodone is addictive? i dunno.... anyway any comments would help.. i was gonna start today by reducing the trazodone in half and tomorrow cut back to just one clonidine a day for 3 more days... sound alright?

He is going to put me on Clonidine 3x a day for 7 days. I also asked him to prescribe something for the diarrhea as well as the aches in pains. I am concerned that after getting off the pain meds completely I will be start experiencing the pain in my back again, but I will not want to get back on anything that strong or anything that is addictive. with the clonidine watch your blood preesure not to low, and it is also great for the ugly creepy crawlys rls, its also used for adhd,migraines,pain full menstruation, flushing due to menopause,diarrha,opiates& methadone detoxification, withdrawal from alcohol and benzodiazepines such as valium. be sure if you decided to use the trazadone or seraquil these 2 will entisify the clonidine & zanax its like a double wammy if you want to sleep this is the way to go!

Hi, I'm prescribed a lidoderm 5% patch, which is basically a patch infused with lidocaine. It helps with the nerve/muscle type pain I have in the lower left leg facing outward. By itself, for bad pain it wouldn't be worth the money, but I'm prescribed Lortab 10/650's ( a narcotic ) and the two used together seem to help lower this pain better than either one treatment alone.

I have been on Clonidine for about a year for my blood pressure, but it helped alot with the w/d's. It doesn't take all the w/d's away but I would say it takes away about 75% of them. Taking that helped me function but I still had the rls and headache. It doesn't help with the mental part at all though so be prepared for that. As TinHead said you don't want to stop Clonidine cold turkey because it can cause you blood pressure to go through the roof...

Do they know about your taper? Clonidine is commonly prescribed for opiate detox. Let me know if you need anything....

Some offer limited relief but there is no cure. I also suffer with chronic back pain for which I use a topical pain cream. My arms were itching so badly one day that I smeared the pain cream all over my arms. The itching stopped; of course it came back but I just added more cream. The BRP is Maddening...but the pain cream helps.
