Topamax and irritability

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and irritability

topamax

at the end of october 2007 i was put on 50mg of topamax for my migrane prophylaxis, and it seems to work pretty well to keep my vertigo at bay. it doesnt seem to quall my irritability, some numbness in my face, some tremors in my hnad, sleepiness, some depression, back/neck pain, slurred speech, memory problems, and concentration problems. i was on depakote @ 500mg before that and it just made me fat.
I was battling with hypersexuality so upped my lamictal from 25mg to another half...I am on prozac 25mg and topamax 100mg as well I am not as bad but am battling now with feelings of disconnection, irritability, paranoia and so many other things that are going on inside my head. My family is oblivious as I am hiding it very well but feel terrible.
I started Topamax in November of this year at 25mg a week and have been increasing the dose by 25mg per week and will reach 200mg next week to reach my limit. My doctor prescribed it for my migraines as I had requested it since all the other treatments seemed to have weight gain as a side effect while this one was the opposite with weight loss as a possibility.
There is one called Follicle Booster which is expensive, but helps a lot. And drink tons of water. Topamax is dehydrating and water will help the tingling sensations you get, along with the brain fog that comes with it. A couple of gallons of water a day will help. That's a lot, but you'll notice the difference. Plus you need to replenish your electrolytes with an occasional sports drink. Again, speaking from experience here. Good luck!
There is also confusion, headaches, dizziness, ringing in the ears, memory or concentration problems, sensitivity to light and noise, irritability and sleep disturbances. Continue with your medications and do update us with your neuro consult. Take care and best regards.
, she recommended we stay clear of Lamictel and topamax...she suggested Trileptal only if her irritability gets worse, but right now, we seem to have that under control and are sticking with the Keppra. I hope all works out for you. Ask your Dr. about the B6...it has really helped us out with her grumpiness!!!!!! Good luck and let me know if I can help you in any other way...

You could read the following for more details- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zonisamide#Side_effects Since when have you started taking these medications? Have you seen a neurologist for your complaints? Have any investigations been done? Let us know the above details and also if you need any further information.
i also have ADD, and the fibro fog didnt get any better because topamax at high doses lol,,,i call DOPAMAX hehe but if you are having problems with weight gain, the DR can give as little as 25 to 50. i was 600!! (but remember , i have seizures, and daily migraines, and social anxiety) i am very outgoing , so it isnt that, but i constantly am looking for my keys in my purse, locking and unlocking the doors, checking the bathtub to make sure no one left it on...etc. stuff like that.
and it can have adverse affects on our overall health and life. I also have tinnitus....and I feel it is a result of the Topamax as it did get better after surgery and has increased again since being on this med- What side effects can this medication cause? Topiramate (brand name Topamax) Topiramate may cause other side effects.
No one ever told me the side effects and I called the doctor every week for the six weeks she was on this medicine and every time all she said was she needs to build her tolerance.
I was scared all this was happening because of the topamax and the recent risks/side effect of glaucoma. I am twenty three. I having been taking anti-depressants since i was sixteen. i have no life without them. Not a happy one anyway. I've tried. I have never been told by any of the three psychiatrists i have seen in my treatment of this serotonin syndrome. I scheduled an eye examine i was so scared about the pain in my eyes. I still feel so sick. I just got my medicine today.
Geoden was nightmarish. For me it is certain anti-depressants that can cause unbelievable and uncontrollable irritability and mind-numbing depression at the same time, not exactly helping the suicidal thoughts!
When you want to decrease or stop the medication, it takes forever since these withdraw symptoms are so difficult to deal with. Mood swings, irritability, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts add on to the other withdraw symptoms i already mentionned. Not to even mention all the weird feelings I have no words to describe, like limb pain, electric shock like feelings in the limbs, restlessness etc.....
Hi Sara, I hope I didn't give bad info, or encourage anyone to take any pain meds unless needed.. I developed a pre ulcerous condition years ago, haven't hardly ever touched an NSAID since, my personal situation, going several years w no pain meds for migraine at all EVER,just occasional rescue Triptan & topamax, and still having 20+ migraines a month has made me fan of fiorcet, bc my neuro doesn't give opiates for migraines.
The dizziness resembled being carsick, with lightheadedness and occasional moments of nausea and feeling faint (but I never passed out). I had a CAT scan and blood work twice, and so far no diagnosis for the dizziness/fatigue. It got better for a few weeks but last week I began to have dizzy spells again, this time accompanied by maxillary sinus pressure. I had just switched allergy medications, from Nasonex to generic Flonase, right at the time my symptoms returned.
they will eventually stop, you will just have to ride it out shouldn't take that long though. I currently take gabapenten and topamax, and missing topamax is worse I think than withdrawl from the gabapenten. but hang in there it will stop soon, I think it runs about 4 to 6 weeks...
my eng came back clean as well as my mri, so everything seems to be clean, but i also know that without checking out mylin sheath or two, degenerative diseases can't always be this easy to diagnose? i'm a health and fitness major and want to make sure i, myself, amd healthy and fit. i have to admit i am pretty scared about the entire situation.
heya, Glad I came across this community, enjoyed reading some of the posts, helpful info for sure. Currently I am taking Wellbutrin XL, topamax, Lamictal, and Xanax (for sleep) and have been feeling desperate on what to try next for my Bipolar. I started on meds over 10 years ago when I was "diagnosed" (although not told with that terminology", then put eventually on Seraquel, Zoloft, Prozac, Buspar, Celexa......
I am only 17, i went to the neurologist and he suggested topamax, i have not had a single headache since! Topamax is wonderful and has no side effects that could effect younger people such as myself or your daughter. I would highly reccomend asking your doctor about starting this medication asap!!!
I have been diagnosed with bipolar spectrum disorder, with my mania being irritability and/or anger. I have tried Lamotrigine (excaserbated my psoriasis), Topamax (severe sinus trouble) and now Epival. I have not taken the latter due to the weight gain side effect. I was curious about Carbamazepine and if you can offer any advice on this medication. I am currently on Cipralex, Seroquel and Campral (abstinent from alcohol for 11 weeks).
Kindly explain what and why he is undergoing such pain like this. Also, he was given Topamax and Lyrica to temporarily relief the pain. Kindly help us to know the impression of the said case of my frien and looking forward to read your answer. thanks and God bless....
I take celexa and only 10 mg and it's decreased my irritability but not my binging and purging. I take it for anxiety, but I still am so so anxious and more like very keyed up and tensed up in my muscles and even at night I find myself tenseing up when thinking about whether I will or won't feel like binging and purging tomorrow. I never know if I will feel the urge or not and so I obsess about it the possible outcomes i could have.
His pulse ox number would drop into the 40's every seizure so they kept him for 5 days total and we were released with orders to see the neurologist in 2 weeks. The DR put him on keppra (in which had too many side effects), then Topamax and valium, in which he stayed on for 2 1/2 months. He continued to have the seizures, sometimes 4 a day, and sometimes 3 days in between them.
Is it in a red capsule? What we use to call reds a long time ago? Because if that is what i think it is it affects differently. I'll tell ya about my experience with them. It was not good.
And what about Topamax? I'm on Topamax for my stupid migraines, and they just increased it by 25mg to a total of 100mg of Topamax/night. The Dr. thinks maybe thats whats causing the problems? I don't know, I have for some reason over the years learned to NOT trust doctors, I need to learn to trust them. Especially mine. Maybe go back down to 75mg where I was OK, and get off the Tegretol and on to something that will work better for me. I'm such a mess, I hate this.
“only need anticoagulant if having surgery in the future” 2009-2010- worsening headaches, partial loss of vision in right eye for approximately 3-4 hours, eye exam normal(“it’s migraine-related”), weakness on right side, paresthesias, occasional brief episodes of word finding difficulty and expressive aphasia, some short term memory loss, paresthesias left arm, mixed urinary incontinence, urethral sphincter weakness Sept 2010- lung nodule in lingual which was monitored had TB test and Flu shot
Sometimes it feels like a wave of pressure and sometimes a stab. but generally its a dull on and off sensation and its very unsettling. It does not hurt, but it is there and it is not normal. I admit i have been in severe pain for months and I may not exactly remember what my "normal" head feels like, but i know it didnt feel like this. This pressure feels stronger if i lay down.
He was first on Depakote, with in months he developed a rash. Changed him to Kepra and later added Topamax. Then took him off Kepra and left him on a low dose of topamax. Which was good and he was seizure free. When they tried to wean him at the age of 17 or so to see if he had out grown his seizures, we don't not see seizures but what when seen was muscle twitches (he was trying to have seizures). They put him back on his regular dose.
I often have tingling sensations in my feet. I have irritability more so than I used to and have bouts of the inability to make a decision. I can spend hours in the meat section at WalMart deciding what meat to buy. Simple as that... Can you please help me shed some light on this? ANY opinions from the medical profession would be greatly appreciated. The doctors where I am from are great docs, but they are more out to make a $$$ than care for and communicate with their patients.
