Avatar n tn All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?
5857909 tn?1375628784 I have reduced quite all my medication and I feel like slowly back to being the person i used to be I am currently taking only 50mg of Topamax and I can say that the pain disappeared almost completely and the goal is to be free of this medicine at year end. Also I have feelings of anger, because I think I've been taking Topamax for over 10 years without any sense. I think I have found what was the source of all my chronic pain and Topamax was not helping me at all.
Avatar f tn I woke up a few days ago with a lot of pain in my stomach and spine. It is not time for my menstrual cycle nor have I overexerted myself with physical labor. I have sharp stabbing pains from time to time in my stomach and my spine aches. I urinate frequently and they are clear for the most part and without pain or odor. I have Hoshimoto's Thyroiditis and take Levothyroxin, Topomax for migraines and birth control for irregular menses.
Avatar f tn I took Topamax for awhile trying to stop a "non-stop" headache. The side effects were bad enough for me that it was discontinued. The lack of balance and eye pain I had were what my neurologist decided were reasons to discontinue. The headache pain was as bad on Topamax as it was off Topamax, so it just wasn't the drug for me....
Avatar m tn Now I take a supplement high in potassium daily and the pins and needles is gone and the pain in the elbows and wrists only appears during bad weather. I've had issues with the Topamax making me so loopy and have just come down on my dose because of it. I'm now experimenting with adding supplements that are suppose to help control migraines with the lower dose of Topamax. I have also lost the ability to sweat while on Topamax, weird...
Avatar f tn against the blockade this results in colic, which is severe attacks of pain. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. Please consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests, x- rays and may ask for an ultrasonogram to find out the cause for the pain. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I started Topamax and it makes me feel so bad. The pain is worse than before? is this normal? my feet hand and vision are all affectative. Numbness in feet and hands, just plain can't see. blured vision. lousy feeling .
Avatar f tn Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).
Avatar f tn After two months of various symptoms that started with a traumatic event with my PREVIOUS doctor I was diagnosed by a Army neurologist with Fibro. and will have a appt. with a Rhumtd. doctor hopefully in a week for confirmation. Before I got in I just started Topamax for pain I've been having primarily face pain, headaches, aching in upper jaw ( maxillary) but, this was given to me by a PA on a low dose, the neuro. is starting me on nortryptilyn.
Avatar m tn m a 26-year old immigrant looking for guidance and help with my symptoms. As a teenager, I one time had horrible experience of chest pain during school and later found out it was tachycardia. Afterwards, I began to experience chest discomfort and 2-3 attacks a year. In thinking that heart ablation would treat the pain, I had surgery several years later. I no longer have tachycardia attacks but continued to develop main all over, basically starting from the chest down to the back and head.
Avatar f tn Well it's September now. Since the last MRI of the brain my docs have sent me on a whirlwind of exams...breast ultrasounds every 3 mos..watching several ?cysts. No biopsies. A new development...12mm lymph node adjacent to the sterncleiomastoid muscle on the right side of my neck along with lymphadenopathy in my cspine and left occipital region as well as the left submandibular region. The Hematologist says the lymph node aren't the cause of my pain.
Avatar m tn Within a week it went from pins and needles to a piercing pain as if being stung by bees and kept getting worse. They stopped the Topamax and within a week all the sensations that were happening while I was on Topamax went away. Suffered all that and didn't even lose a lb.
284078 tn?1282616698 Fortunately, God was on her side because she was smart enough to stop the Topamax and go to the emergency room before she developed an attack of acute narrow angle glaucoma (symptoms severe eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, almost complete vision loss.) Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal.
Avatar n tn I read that topamax can have joint pain as one of the side effects and have weaned myself off the med. I have not taken any for the past 4-5 days. However, I am still very stiff and achy and my ankles have been swollen for the past 2 days. Do you think that this is still a side-effect of the topamax or maybe something else?
Avatar f tn I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
Avatar f tn the neurological symptoms that you have described that are consistent with migraines are the aniscoria and the numbness and tingling. And pain in the eye is very consistent with migraines. I am curious to what the doctors have diagnosed this pain as. Have any of the doctors suggested migraines? The treatment for chronic migraines is often the same as the treatment for ANY chronic pain... with a few differences: - Daily antidepressants...
Avatar f tn com interactions checker. Fentanyl and depakote, topamax, and Seroquel are listed as increasing drowsiness, as does depakote + Seroquel. In addition, depakote + topamax can increase the drug levels of both meds, meaning that he's effectively getting a higher dose of both. Seroquel + topamax also has a slight risk of overheating, although that's a rare side effect and more common in children. I'm guessing the topamax is for migraines.
1524673 tn?1327841500 Thanks for your advice, I have been have problems with migraines for over twenty years, only in the last two months have I been diagnosed with this, as a result of being admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke. I have had an MRI and everything is normal, and topamax seems to be keeping a lid on most of the systems although the right side of my face went numb and my toes started to tingle today. MY family doctor is great but my neurologist not so much.
998260 tn?1277731559 I am ok with topamax, but it has side effects - all of them do. I tried all of them - and for me, topamax had the least, but every one is different and you have to do what you can. Work up to a dose - and take the least amount that helps you the most. I used to take a smaller amount, but had to increase it. It may be best to see a neurologist. There are also surgeries - but that may not be best for you since yours was caused by an injury so it may be difficult to isolate the nerve.
Avatar f tn i seem to have mostly visual problems and some pain with my migraines.. my perception definately feels off and my eye gets really low on the right side of my head.. i was wondering .. does it make a difference in a dignoses with it being on one side of my head mostly?? and i seem to be so depressed ever since these symptoms started... i have been on all the antidepressents in the world..is it normal to have depression with migraines when they seem to be constant??
Avatar f tn Although Topamax is primary metabolized via the cyp450-3A4 and Welbutrin is is primary metabolized via the cyp450-2B6, there is some secondary drug/drug interaction between them. It is not a major interaction but can cut the effectiveness of one or both of the medications. Typically, when we have someone on anti-depressants that also suffers from migraines, we co-prescribe Gabitril (available as generic Tiagabine ) which is not to be confused with Gabapentin.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I am on 100 mg of topamax a day ( 50mg 2x daily) and got a sinus infection on day 7 of starting topamax, been battling it for over a week now with antibiotics and it doesnt seem to be going away. Doctor said that I might have to decrease my topamax and I really dont want to as it seems to be working, if anything I was hoping to increase my topamax dose... Anyone else suffer this side effect, did it go away?
