Topamax for leg pain

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax for leg pain

topamax

Avatar f tn I thought it was just because of the pregnancy but i only seem to get these certain symptoms with the pain. I had a CAT scan done back before I was put on Topamax but I am afraid the hospital I went to didn't do the CAT scan done right. They didn't use the contrast dye. Ive had a cat scan done before on my leg so was curious why they didn't. The hospital said they didn't see anything abnormal but I am starting to worry. What should I do??

420469 tn?1217647363 I hope others here can pin down the type of leg pain you're having and its causes, for one thing because I have much the same kind. My legs ache and feel tight too, and the left is also worse. Sitting or lying when this is bad makes it even worse. I've tried as many as 3 Advil (ibuprofen), and this takes the edge off the pain, but I don't want to take that over the long haul.
2932946 tn?1344722012 m thankful for that. My doctor just tells me to take Tylenol or ibprofen first then resort to my pain meds if it doesn't go away. But i take up to 4 Tylenol or ibprofen at a time just about twice a day. usually lessens it but doesn't go away. I know its not good to take that much Tylenol, anyone else have any other options that help with their headaches?

Avatar f tn I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
874521 tn?1424116797 Yes, I started on Lyrica about 9 mos. ago for my lower back pain & neuropathic pain, HOWEVER, it does work & I like the fact that I'm not taking as highly an addictive pain killer as an opiate, I've already gained 26 pounds! That's having switched from regular to DIET soda & DECREASED my food intake!!! So, be forewarned, you're gonna gain more than a little weight.
Avatar n tn I started Midrin tonight, am still taking Valium for the Vertigo spells as needed, and Klonopin at night for the leg pain. I am completely confused why I had a seizure tonight after going a whole week seizure-free. Is there something we're missing here? MRI, MRA, CT, EEG and bloodwork all came out beautifully. I appear to be a perfectly healthy 30 year old woman. I don't drink, smoke or use drungs.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 48 years old and have had a twitch in my lower left eyelid for about 3 months. This can be 24 hours a day for many days at a time and then it becomes intermittent. In the last few days, my upper right eyelid has started fluttering intermittently as well. I have been on Topamax (100mg) per day for migraines since 2009, so I doubt whether this has suddenly become the cause. I am not stressed, but I do drink 2-3 cups of coffee per day. Can eyelid twitching go on this long?
Avatar f tn m sorry you are having such pain. I too suffer from migraines. I did a search for opening pressure for lumbar puncture and came up with some interesting hits. Hope you get some answers soon.
324184 tn?1308076203 If your daughter starts topamax, be sure to find a urologist. One of the major side effects of topamax is kidney stones. After taking it for my migraines for two years, I had kidney's full of stones. I have had three operations to rid myself of them and the surgery/recovery is very painful. The neurologist found out that I was in the hospital for a week ( the first time) and no kidding..yelled into the phone.. OH MY GOSH...ITS THE TOPAMAX!
Avatar f tn It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????
Avatar n tn I have been taking topamax for migraine prevention for approximately 4 months. All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?
Avatar m tn Your symptoms strongly suggest migraine and that is obviously what the neurologist thought as topomax is for migraine prevention. If you look at the product information brochure you will not it can cause acute glaucoma. The side effects you describe are enough to switch medicine. I would strongly suggest you contact your neurologist and tell him/her that the side effects are more than you can take. There are other medications available.
Avatar m tn An NSAID is good for inflammation, Anti-Seizure (like Lyrica, Neurontin or Topamax) medications are good for nerve pain. If Lyrica made your fiance too drowsy, Topamax might be a better alternative. This is what I take instead. It's in the same class, but has different side effects. Many people do not get as drowsy. Muscle relaxers can help too. Everyone's cocktail is different, because everyone's reacts differently to medications.
293157 tn?1285873439 I do have a question for people with MS, my left side is weaker and for the past few months, my Myoclonic type jerking with my left arm and sometimes leg is getting bad. I have them daily now and they are so tiring. It happens whenever I try to do something and once in awhile even when watching tv. But usually when I talk or try to move around and do anything? I have my head movements as well, do other people have these type of symptoms? what helps with them.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been getting migraine headaches for the past 15 years. For the past week I have had this horrible headache that I'm sure is not a migraine. It is all over my head but feel more pressure on the top and sides of my head. I wake up dizzy and nauseous every morning and feel that way for a few hours, after that its on and off all day. I haven't taken any medication for the past three days since they were not helping and even seemed to make me feel worse.
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar m tn I did experience a little joint pain in the elbows and wrists when I jumped to a higher dose. The pins and needle sensations came stronger and more often as well. In my feet it felt like bee stings, ouch. I did some digging online and found in the clinical trails potassium helped with the tingling so I tried that. I started out by just trying to add potassium rich foods to my diet and saw a difference on those days.
