Common Questions and Answers about Tiotropium bromide step-up therapy

spiriva

Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar n tn Yes, there are. Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) is one and Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) another. Each is a bronchodilator and capable of giving good relief of shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn If from the lungs, you could be experiencing Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) withdrawal symptoms, depending on what type of lung problem was being treated with the Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder). These symptoms, along with your arms feeling weak and heavy, could all be due to anxiety, but could also be symptoms of more serious disease of the heart or lungs. For that reason, you do need to see your doctor to sort this out.
Avatar f tn Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) has a maximum duration of action of about 36 hours. To be safe, you would want to be off the medicine for 48 to 72 hours before the spirometry. It would have been preferable, but not mandatory to do the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) at the time the diagnosis of chronic lung disease was made especially if the diagnosis was unequivocal. The other important question would be, “Why 3 CT scans, presumably of your lungs, in 16 months?
Avatar n tn This would include a long-acting bronchodilator, such as Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate), Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder) or Spiriva® HandiHaler® (tiotropium bromide inhalation powder) along with an inhaled steroid. Another potentially helpful, oral medicine is called theophylline. Your doctor may also want to prescribe this. You should have your blood oxygen level checked, in case it is low and you would need supplemental oxygen.
Avatar m tn Cause of low DLCO and drop in it from test 1 to test 1? I am currently on tiotropium bromide and salmeterol/fluticasone propionate. My reason for posting this is one doc is pessimistic and the other highly optimistic. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Spiriva contains tiotropium bromide which is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. So, yes, both have action against acetylcholine recptors and both are efefctive bronchodilators. You can take any one of them. Indacaterol is an ultra-long-acting beta-adrenoceptor agonist. So, it gives bronchodialation for a much longer time. It is a more recent drug so long term efficacy data are not available. However, available data does show a marked benefit in individuals with COPD.
Avatar f tn I am having an extreme exaserbation of copd. Coughing up an endless amount of phelgm, sorry I know it's gross. Will this pass, and can a doctor do anything about it?
Avatar m tn Hi there was a drug around when i was a kid they used to call it (Bromide) that stopped you from getting a erection , whether you can get it from a Pharmacy i don't know , if your not satisfied with yourself masturbating why do it , i do hope you can get over your Phobia , Please take care ,
Avatar n tn There is a small possibility that you are allergic to the ipratropium bromide (Atrovent), which is one of the two components of Combivent. The other component is albuterol. Strange as it may seem, ipratropium bromide is made from PEANUTS, one of the foods that almost every asthmatic is allergic to. I am allergic to peanuts, but my combivent helps my asthma. No asthma medication will give long-lasting relief, if you are still exposing yourself to the trigger or triggers that are making you sick.
Avatar f tn s a therapy pool. The temperature of the pool is 92-94 degrees, and it has chlorine and bromide. I have seen people at other facilities who were pregnant in the pool, but it was a normal temperature pool. Has anyone been told that they cannot swim in certain pools? I know you shouldn't go in a hot tub during pregnancy, but I wasn't sure about therapy pools.
Avatar m tn Note: This is not me, this is from a female aged 31. Since 1,5 year ago I have irregular bowel movements, usually 4-5 incomplete bowel movements per day. Always after defecation, I feel like something is stuck in my rectum. Five months ago I went to the ER with acute right lower quadrant pain near the appendix with the pain reflecting right in my back. Normal bloodwork, plain abdominal x-ray showed excessive intestinal gas. Pain continued for several days and then nausea came also.
Avatar n tn do you find nebulizers help?
Avatar m tn Hi my Jake is a 18 month old border collie mix who started having seizures about three months ago. The first seizure was followed by another one two months later. The vet did blood work and diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy. She put him on 500 mg of keppra ER twice a day. He had a seizure every two weeks for the next month. When we went back to the vet she put him on 64.8 mg twice a day phenobarbital as well as adding another 500 mg keppra to what he was taking.
Avatar n tn In addition, if the cough, even in part, is due to asthma, the Combivent® Inhalation Aerosol (ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate) is inadequate therapy for asthma. There are times when cough is the primary symptom or the only symptom of asthma so a trial of an inhaled steroid would be warranted. If vigorous therapy for asthma does not reduce your cough, especially when combined with nasal washes and the use of a nasal steroid inhaler, then you should see an ENT.
Avatar f tn s own, most vets will move on and add Potassium Bromide to the mix. My dog is on this as well. From what I understand, the Potassium Bromide helps to absorb the medicine better, and most dogs do not take just Potassium Bromide alone, but in conjunction with other anti-convulsants.

1481176 tn?1291392092 I just found out that my neurologist has prescribed pyridostigmine bromide (Mestinon) for my orthostatic hypotension and is having it mailed to me. Has anyone else used this and with what results?
Avatar f tn I spent about 20 minutes in our newly aquired hot tub last week without realizing the Bromide level was extremely high. The next day my genitals (female) felt burned and swollen, and I soon discovered large blisters inside and out down there! My rectum also hurts- probably similar to hemiroids. The blisters are very sore and I'm actually having trouble going to the bathroom. I have tried epsom salt soaks, silvadine cream, nystatin powder, and Aquaphor ointment. Nothing seems to be helping...
3547166 tn?1347814000 I'm not sure when it will start but I am eventually going to have to go to therapy for my Anxiety and Depression. I've never gone to therapy before. What is it like? The thought scares me a little. I would appreciate any input.
Avatar f tn I have read they are linked to excessive bromide in the body. I was on fluoxetine for 2 years before noticing these bumps.
Avatar f tn Ding Xian Wan or the combination of: Long Dan Xie Gan Tang and Di Tan Tang are also helpful adjuncts in the medical arsenal for seizures. A grain free, Atkins type diet may help your dog to lose weight more efficiently: Evo/Innova, Wellness, Natures Variety, Merrick's, and Spots Stew are some helpful choices. Each of these brands also make a grained variety. Read the label and make sure you choose grain-free.
Avatar m tn An MRI came back as negative, the doc thought it would show a misalignment of the cervical spine. Any thoughts on what could be causing this or what my next step should be?
Avatar n tn Hi, fast heart rate is due to Xopenex. Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug. Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.
