Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain causes

finger

Avatar n tn Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of median nerve which supplies the three middle fingers of the hand and causes pain in the same and I think which is also the most likely cause of discomfort in your hand. Rare causes could be arthritis, minor trauma of bones of the hand etc. I would suggest that you visit a orthopaedician for further assistance. All the best.

She has has sent me for X-rays I will be getting tomorrow and she wants me to see a physiotherapist. She wont tell me 100% till she runs more tests but between the ice and heat sand of course the Tylenol the pain is gone but now I'm feeling pain in my left thumb.

Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone had heard of this as a possible cause for onset of symptoms? When I had it before, the doctors treated my pain with morphine, oxycontin and xanax before being placed on long term neurontin. Now I'm facing the same treatment, but DO NOT want to go back on neurontin. The constant hunger and weight gain was horrible. Does anyone know if there is a different long term drug that is just as effective without the side effects? I appreciate any input!
Avatar m tn The following comes and goes not more than a few seconds muscle spasms in my feet, calves tingle all the way up to my knee, twitching over my entire body when at rest including eye twitching, real ache in both arms(this has improved since being on Lyrica), both hands tingle and numb some, thumb hurts sometimes when using it and NOT at all other times and the other thumb is beginning to hurt (the thumb issue really is worrying me), slight numbness in my cheek, ear and part of my head will tingle,
Avatar m tn I have almost constant twitching/spasm in my left flexor pellicis breva, which is causing my thumb to twitch. Occasionally, it also occurs in my right hand. No pain, but concern. Do I need to see a doctor?
Avatar f tn I have done the carpel tunnel wrist test positions that my general prac taught me when I was having neuropathy and urgent care tried to say it wa carpel tunnel. Anyways long story short, no pain when I do this position. Only pain when pressure is applied. I did nothing to injury it and I'm right handed so I'm unsure what to think of it. The only thing that is different is that i have been sick with a flu bug that turned into a cold. I don't have a fever anymore just congestion.
Avatar m tn My thumb is not bruised or swollen but I have shooting pain when I bend it. I can bend it all the way but it shoots pain and it hurts in between the two joints. I have tried icing and wrapping it but nothing has helped and it has been nine days. My hand is also very cold but like I said before it is not bruised or swollen.
Avatar f tn Often, thyroid problems can cause carpal tunnel syndrome, which causes pain, burning and numbness in the thumb and fingers. With CTS, the thumb, index, and middle fingers are affected. Also, the ring finger can be affected all around, but often it's just the side of the ring finger closest to the middle finger that is affected. The pinky is not affected at all. I agree with Barb that more background information would be very helpful.
Avatar m tn Have you considered asking in the surgical area for a hand surgeon to answer?

20851055 tn?1536806732 Anything besides light movement still causes swelling n pain in joint. When do you know if a joint is ready for pt and when should you just rest it for a couple more weeks? No MRI, trying immobilization first but do have some scaphoid lunate separation.

Avatar f tn Dear Dr. Jain, I've been on dialysis since Feb. 2007 and I have experienced progressively worse wrist pain in both hands. My left side is weaker due to a 2004 stroke and that's where the pain began. The only medication it responds to is Aleeve but I'm on Coumadin and the combination could be lethal as I recently found out, having had to go to an ER when my INR of 6.1 made the blood seep into my right elbow joint causing an unbelievable amount of pain.
Avatar f tn Last night I suddenly had strong cramp-like pain in my left wrist just below the palm on the side furthest from my thumb. Looking at it I could see what looked like a swolen vein, like the blood just couldn't pass & was stretching the vein. In relation to the rest of my hand/wrist that location felt quit a bit warmer. The pain lasted approximately 20 minutes then was gone, only hurting when the location where the bulging vein had been was touched.
Avatar m tn i was in my local ER and required an IV the nurse stuck the iv in the bend of my arm as she was pushing the iv in she hit a nerve and i screamed as i never have had this happen and it was the worst pain ever. the IV was not removed it was left in as the nurse felt it was ok. 15 or so minutes later my who upper bicept was rock hard as the iv fluid had infiltrated my arm from blowing the vein out. since removal of the iv i can not grab lift or rotate my thumb in a full range.
Avatar f tn Very similar story, earlier elbow/arm,shoulder pain that disappeared, but no known injury and 62 year old female, use computer mouse, keyboard a lot. No pain in thumb, just doesn't work to bend last distal joint.in right thumb. Same story, first noticed with trying to use a lighter. First joint seems to work fine. Just thought it was a curious mystery "fluke" associated with age, and not a big deal. But I guess it's been about 5 weeks so wondering how others have fared.
