Avatar f tn A clicking sound in a joint along with pain is a sign of arthritis. It can be rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout or a reactive arthritis to a drug or infection. You will need an X-ray of the joint along with other tests like RA factor and test for gout. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
772218 tn?1249131067 If it is carpel then the pain should be in the thumb, index finger and middle finger area of your hand. If it is the outside two fingers of your hand then it would suggest the ulnar nerve. Considering you experience it in arm, feet, legs; I would suggest talking to your doctor and let them lead you in the right direction for testing and diagnosis.

Avatar m tn Pain at the base of your thumb after trauma could be an avulsion fracture which an XR would show. However, it would generally not be hot and intensely painful so many months afterwards. A intermittently red, hot, painful joint at the base of a digit could represent gout. If might be worth speaking to your physician about checking your uric acid level, as well as doing an XR (which could also show inflammatory changes of gout, besides ruling out a fracture).
Avatar f tn Other differential diagnosis would include carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or gout of first metacarapal-phallengeal joint. Take a second opinion and see. An X-ray of the thumb joint, MRI of thumb and wrist, RA factor, thyroid panel, clinical examination, etc will be required for a confirmed diagnosis. Consult an orthopedic specialist. Take care!

Avatar n tn 10, 240 lbs, and I get gout attacks from time to time (1-3 times a year). This pain started a year ago after I had gout attack on my left foot. I went to my family doctor and she just told me to get my foot scanned and X-rayed but she didn't see any broken bones. She only said that I have degenerative arthritis on my toe thumb even thou I said that I feel the pain on the middle top of my foot. She also said that the reason is because I'm over weight and I need to lose weight.

Avatar f tn Instead the pain/pull/discomfort could be due to arthritis, gout, pseudo gout, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or carpel tunnel syndrome. If you are a diabetic or have a family history of diabetes, this should be checked as diabetes can cause stiff joints of hand. You can dip your hands in warm and cool water alternatively, exercise your wrist, and apply local analgesics. However, you must find the cause of your problem.

Avatar f tn I was mis-diagnosed with lupus last year complaining of pain in my hands and feet which is going on for about 2yrs at least. My pain is based in my knukles and the balls of my feet. The worst effected areas are my index fingers and old injuries, broken toe and sprined thumb. Its always bad in the morning and slowly disappears as the day progresses. I have very poor circulation in my hands and feet also. Could this be carpal tunnel syndrom and tarsal tunnel syndrome?
Avatar f tn However, I was on mobic for my wrist and that did not help at all so I had to get a cortisone shot in my wrist. It seemed to help, but the pain is already back and stronger than ever. Now I have a cold, wet feeling in my thumb. I grabbed a random photo off the Net and circled the place as to where I feel that sort of feeling. I never had the feeling before. I'm also limited on my mobility and my right ankle is pretty swelled up as well.
Avatar m tn The pain has now duplicated itself further up my arm same size area towards the inside of my elbow and is also now doing the same thing towards my thumb joint.
Avatar m tn Symptoms begin with either numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side or by just pain. Usually there is no swelling. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases. It could also be rheumatoid arthritis, gout or tendonitis. However all these would also cause some inflammation and swelling. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.

Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with gout and although I do have pain in my big toe (mainly left, but also some in right), I'm having more trouble with my fingers - they are where the pain is worst and where I've got some tophi. How common/uncommon is it to have gout more in the fingers than the toe? I know it can affect other joints other than teh big toe, but just not sure how common it is and if it makes it any more difficutl to treat?
Avatar m tn It was fine one day and then the next morning I woke up in severe pain. Sometimes the pain is going all the way up into my elbow and my arm from wrist to elbow hurts, sometimes it just shoots up to my elbow, but most of the time it is just in my wrist and it hurts really bad regardless of what I'm doing. I can be laying in bed to go to sleep and it hurts or trying to do something that requires use of my hand.
Avatar f tn 4 days later I woke up with swollen painful thumb. Went to the Dr, she did uric acid test to see if it was gout which it was not so she gave me full course of antibiotics and NSAIDs. It helped after the fisrt couple days but then went right back to how it was. It's still very swollen, painful to the touch, very stiff. Will it eventually just go away on it's own? There's no way to dig anything out or even see anything. The hairs were microscopic...amazing how bad it hurts.

712802 tn?1274645485 For most people, gout pain usually shows up first in the joints of the big toe. However, as gout progresses, and more and more uric acid builds in the system, it has to find other joints where it can go. This means you might get gout pain in other places that can cause even more pain than that which you might feel when it is in your toe.One of the first things many do when they have gout and hip joint pain is take NSAIDS.
Avatar m tn If you are a diabetic or have a poor immune system it could be neuropathy. Check with a endocrinologist they can run blood work and find out.
