Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain carpal tunnel

finger

Avatar f tn The median nerve controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and fingers (although not the little finger), as well as impulses to some small muscles in the hand that allow the fingers and thumb to move. The carpal tunnel - a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand - houses the median nerve and tendons. Sometimes, thickening from irritated tendons or other swelling narrows the tunnel and causes the median nerve to be compressed.

Avatar n tn Typing injury, or Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) refers to a wide range of problems, of which Carpal Tunnel is the most well known. Symptoms involve pain in the hands and arms when typing and using the mouse, and generally end up making many daily activities painful or impossible. Burning, numbness, or tingling in your palm, wrist, thumb, or fingers also are the common symptoms encountered by most patients.
Avatar f tn No, carpal tunnel is in your hand/arm/wrist. I haven't heard of the leg cramps before, sorry!
Avatar n tn i was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome last jan 20, and i had it released just this october 18, but why is it that i still having wrist and finger pain, after my carpal tunnel surgey.
Avatar f tn I'm 38 weeks and 3days from the last few days I have really bad pain in my right hand wrist nerve which leads to middle finger and thumb I can't even hold a glass of water or twist my right hand and it gets worse at night. I have mentioned this to my midwife but she didn't say anything and write down in my notes which says Carpal tunnel I search about this online but couldn't find anything.
Avatar f tn Your clinical presentation sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. This manifests as pain and paresthesias in the distribution of the median nerve, which includes the thumb, index, and middle fingers. Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms usually occur while holding an object or gripping a steering wheel for extended periods of time. They also tend to occur at night and may wake you during the night, or you may notice the numbness when you wake up in the morning.
Avatar f tn Has anyone developed Carpal tunnel or any other wrist pain during pregnancy? Ive had such an easy pregnancy but lately my thumb and wrist have been aching really bad. I heard its common to get in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I'm 38 weeks and this last week started getting carpal tunnel. It's become almost unbearable and can't even move my fingers at night they hurt so bad. They hurt during the day also just not as bad. I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to take care of my baby when he comes.
Avatar f tn Sounds like carpal tunnel. You can buy a wrist brace to keep it stabilized.
Avatar n tn I believed I had Carpal tunnel syndrome because when I was writing i would get a shooting pain up and down ONLY my wrist area, and when on the computer when my right hand was using the mouse and resting on the desk at the same time, my wrist hurt too much to have any pressure on it.
736040 tn?1257436457 Could carpal tunnel cause alot of joint pain in all of my fingers too? I was in immense pain last night. This morning I woke up with tingling in my right hand...which was also painful.
Avatar f tn I get numb tingling too but its nerve related.
Avatar f tn I have carpal tunnel syndrome too, there are braces you can buy to help. I personally havent but my hands ache horribly as well. Just to crack my fingers is teeth clenching. I have pretty persistent numbness in my thumb pointer and index finger on both hands. My midwife offered suggestions to sleep with them propped up on pillows and to seriously reduce any sodium intake you might have. Plenty of water, thats what I read all the time. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I am 27 and otherwise healthy. I have had soreness in my left thumb, and my Doctor said it was carpal tunnel. Suddenly it became so painful i could not move it, and the er doc. said it's dequervain's tendonitis. I have redness, swelling, and slight bruising, but no pain in my wrist. ( also there was no injury ) I have been wearing a splint and taking nsaid's for 3 days now with no improvement. Does anyone know what is wrong with my thumb?
Avatar n tn Does anyone know what could be causing this. Ive read you can get carpal tunnel while being pregnant but I though carpal tunnel affected your wrists more.
Avatar f tn Hi Nate_F, I too have severe carpal tunnel in both my hands, as well as, basically the same issues as you in both my hands and my arms. My pain is also more prevalent on the pinky and ring finger, and the outside portion of my arm than it is on the thumb part, and inside areas of my hand. I also experience pain all the way across my wrist area, and across the upper joints in my fingers.
Avatar f tn i saw an ortho doc who got an emg which showed bilateral carpal tunnel. he even got a cervical spine MRI b/c it seemed to occur in both hands at the same time. it just showed C5/6/7 mild herniation, but no encroachment onto any nerves. A neurosurgeon and my ortho doc feels that herniation is not the problem. I had a carpal tunnel release my rt wrist in 3/2008, but my symptoms returned to the rt hand after a few months.
Avatar n tn Have you been spending lots of time on a computer, word processor, or keyboard lately? If so, you may have some carpal tunnel symptoms going on, that typically presents with the thumb, index and middle finger symptoms. At any rate, it would probably be a great idea to go to your primary care physician and get evaluated for this problem. He/she will be able to some DTR's on that extremity to check for nerve related issues. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn Hello~It sounds like it could be a carpal tunnel issue. The symptoms are usually found along the nerve path because of compression of the median nerve. Your hand may “fall asleep” frequently and drop objects.
Avatar f tn I just had carpel tunnel surgery and cubital tunnel suergery . Cubital tunnel is the cause of your whole arm to go to sleep along with your ring and baby finger. carpel tunnel is the thumb and pointer finger and middle finger. after both surgeries i am so much better just don't wait to see a Dr. it does not get better on its own and will get worse if you ignor it.
