I recently recovered from a bout of Quinsy/very swollen throat/tonsilitus and was proscribed antibiotics which gave me oral thrush as a side effect. Since all other symptoms have disappeared I still have raised lumps at the back of my tongue and I can feel them going down my throat a little. They are the same colour as my tongue or a little paler and of varying sizes. Should I be worried? I'm not sure what these are!

Naturally I thought it was tonsillitis ( I had the infection before 4 years ago and that time it developed into quinsy. ) Was given Penicillin V for 10 days. I finished the course but the infection wasn't cleared and after a week was given another 10 day course. By day 8 I had lost my remaining capsules to finish the course but was told by a nurse I didn't need it since all was normal. Two days later my infection got worse.

i had to pester him to send me for an xray then he got it wrong again and told me i had a cold when i had a quinsy (a lump that keeps growing in the back of your throat till you cant breath, swallow or talk then it kills you coz you choke in your sleep ).a simple syringe and antibiotics cured that,but it was close to closing my throat up. So to sum up dr's dont always know whats best, you can always insist that they check futher with more tests.

by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.

In early March he developed a fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. He saw a doctor and strep throat and mono were ruled out as a cause. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. He felt fine after a couple of days and all was well. But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.6) and the doctors ruled out strep and mono once again and put him on the same medication regimen. Could his symptoms possibly stem from a tooth abscess??

Don't panic yet, it can be hard to see well so early on. If the due date is not totally accurate you could be even earlier on than you think.

Probably a viral infection. I recently had a hiv fear although i used protection. My sixth week(actually five weeks, 6 days 12 hours to be precise) elissa fourth gen test came out negative. I'm a little sure that it can't be because of hiv. I have a wisdom tooth on my left side that is causing a tooth to decay. I got dental abscess about a month back. I didn't treat the dental abscess. This sore throat is pretty annoying.

You could see if any of the draining areas have any evidence of infection, like tonsils, the skin, tooth abscess or an ear infection. Infections like tuberculosis can cause lymphadenopathy. It would be worthwhile to see if other lymph groups are enlarged namely, axilla and groin, these can be palpated. If persisting consult your doctor for an evaluation. Last night I noticed a lump behind my ear. I've had swollen lymph nodes numerous times so I knew it wasn't that. It felt like a bubble, was tender and felt warm. A lump in the throat could be a cyst, an abscess, a swollen lymphnode or an area of localized inflammation due to post nasal drip or reflux of gastric contents. Since you drink, possibility of reflux are high. Please consult an ENT and get this investigated. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Can a tooth be abscessed without any gum swelling, and cause this swelling in my throat? A few years ago I had an abscess on the bottom left wisdom tooth. After swelling went down, the dentist did surgery to build up the bone.

That lasted about a week, as soon as those symptoms started to fade away I got a sore throat, but only on my right side. That was 2 weeks ago and I still have the sore throat. What gives? Again, all other symptoms are gone except for the sore throat. What could this be?

I came down with flulike/mono symptoms two weeks ago. My throat is not sore, but on the left side, there is a swollen mass that is in the same area my tonsil would be. A NP was afraid it was an abscess, but my dr didn't think it was. My blood work is still out on an official mono dx, but the thing in my throat is not getting any smaller. It sometimes makes me keep like gagging. Any idea what this is? Or if I need to see an ENT to have it drained/removed? Thanks!
