Abscess strep throat

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess strep throat

abscess

Avatar f tn Hello, i was diagnosed with strep throat and have been given amoxicillin to take twice a day for ten days. I noticed my gums are receding and making it very painful to eat, brush my teeth, etc. I also have a blister on my bottom lip, which I've never had before so could i possibly have an std? Or is this all caused by the strep and should go away with the antibiotics?
Avatar f tn In early March he developed a fever, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. He saw a doctor and strep throat and mono were ruled out as a cause. The doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 days. He felt fine after a couple of days and all was well. But about two weeks later the same symptoms returned (w/ a fever of 101.6) and the doctors ruled out strep and mono once again and put him on the same medication regimen. Could his symptoms possibly stem from a tooth abscess??
Avatar n tn Group F strep is one of the streptococcus species that is part of the Streptococcus anginosus group (formally called Streptococcus milleri).  It is found as part of the Normal bacterial flora in the oral cavity, GI tract and genitourinary tract. It can be the cause of serious deep tissue abscesses in places like the brain or liver but is generally considered to be normal in moderate amounts in the throat or mouth.
Avatar n tn I am a 26 year female, I have been a vegetarian for the last 2 years. I got strep throat about 2 months ago and was given Augmentin to treat it for 10 days. It came back about 2 weeks ago and I was treated again with Augmentin for 10 days. Now it is back again and the doctor said I should consider having my tonsils removed if it comes back again. He has me taking Tetracyclin now and it's day 2. My tonsils have gotten worse, they are pus pockets all over.
Avatar f tn biopsy was negative for cancer and showed moderate gram negative rods, gramt positive cocci, all forms, moderate normal oral flora, moderate beta strep group c. i was on antibiotics until 2/1. over two weeks i felt better and better. my throat started hurting again. blood test was negative for strep and mono and showed slightly elevated white count. vocal chords have nodules. doctor put me on clindomyocin. it's day 5 and my tonsils are still very swollen and my uvula is bent to the right.
Avatar f tn It could be strep throat or possibly an abscess. If you go to a neighborhood clinic they usually have a sliding fee of some type so how much you pay is based on your income. Also depending on where you live they have clinic type offices at some Target stores and CVS pharmacies. To help alleviate the pain you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen and gargle with warm salt water.
Avatar m tn TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS... abscess: An abscess is a localized collection of pus that generally develops in response to infection. An abscess is typically painful, and it appears as a swollen area that is warm to the touch. The skin surrounding an abscess typically appears pink or red. Abscesses can develop in many parts of the body, but they usually involve the skin surface.
Avatar m tn Tonsillectomy is advised if there is recurrent streptococcal tonsillitis, recurrent peritonsillar abscess and chronic tonsillitis. Repeated strep throat infections are an indication for tonsillectomy, as the tonsils may harbor the infection which keeps flaring up, or they may develop new infections. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines.
Avatar m tn I recently suffered a serious sore throat (headache, chills, no stuffiness) one the right side that I figured was strep. It last the weekend, then broke and eased. However, as I recovered, left side of throat became scratchy, raw, with white, pimply bumps (tonsils are out), and the left side of the peritonsillar arch (back of mouth, in front of where tonsils were) swelled up but did not hurt.
Avatar n tn I figured I'd update it a little bit... about 3 weeks ago I thought I had strep... sore throat on only the right side, near my tonsil area, and it hurt all the way up to my inner ear... no fever, a little achey but nothing serious. I was put on a 10 day amox script. i took it for 10 days and felt fine, but as soon as I went off of it i felt sick again... this time my throat swelled up on one side and hurt all the way into my ear.
Avatar f tn I have had strep throat 4 times in the last 5 months. 2 and a half months ago I started getting arthritis with my 3rd case of strep. I had what looked like the beginning of a rash. My first strep I was given amox for 10days, 2nd was given penacillin for 10days, 3rd was given clyndamycin for 10days.
Avatar n tn I told my doctor that it felt like I had a knot in my throat and he sent me to have a cat scan done on my throat thinking I might have an abscess and nothing showed up at all. My white blood cell count came back normal also. Anyway, it's been close to 5 weeks now and the white spots are gone but I still have tender lymph nodes and my voice box hurts. I've been to an ear, nose, throat doctor and he looked at my throat and voice box and says he sees nothing wrong.
Avatar n tn There are many possible causes of throat pain including infection, a foreign body, such as a chicken bone, an ingested irritant or a tumor. This could simply be a strep throat or a viral throat infection; one viral infection in particular, herpes virus can be very painful. But it could also be that you are developing an abscess, such as a boil in or around your tonsil. That you are not even able to swallow saliva is very worrisome, whether because of pain or obstruction.
Avatar m tn That lasted about a week, as soon as those symptoms started to fade away I got a sore throat, but only on my right side. That was 2 weeks ago and I still have the sore throat. What gives? Again, all other symptoms are gone except for the sore throat. What could this be?
Avatar f tn I think it's a good idea to get to see your medical dr. Sure sounds like you might have strep throat, but the dentist may be right in that it may not be from your dental work. You may need a different antibiotic. Please let us know how you do and GOOD LUCK. I hope you will be feeling better soon.
Avatar m tn The antibiotic of choice for a streptococcal infection is penicillin. However, repeated strep throat infections are an indication for tonsillectomy. Discuss these options with your consulting doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn At week 6 I went to the doctor and he diagnosed it as either strep throat or and abscess, and gave a antibiotic for it. After that it was still there and he said it was fine and sent me on my way. After another few weeks it was still there so I went to and ENT and prescribed me 1000mg XR aumentin twice a day for 10 days. He said that if it doesn't clear up to checked up for Mono, and if that was negative to get an Infectious Disease Consult.
Avatar m tn / I have had a sore throat for most of the time since then. tested positive for strep 2 weeks ago, but the meds haven't helped my throat. It doesn't really scratch, just a bit uncomfortable to swallow. I've read it's tell tale for HIV... What is the community's thought?
Avatar f tn I apologize if this is long and all over the place but I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out a bit. Back in late August/early September I came down with some sort of throat "situation." It started as a slight discomfort when I swallowed on one tonsil and when I checked the mirror I saw a fairly large red blood spot/abscess? I was at work when I noticed it and over the span of an hour I started feeling worse and worse.

Avatar m tn Hi, I do suffer from returning Strep-A infections. Right now I am eating Dalacin, and this would be my 7th antibiotic treatment this year. About 3 years ago I had a returning throat abscess and ate about 4 cures of antibiotics before my tonsillits were removed. So, my 7 infections this year is without any tonsillits. The doctors I have met, specialists in ear, nose and throat disorders, have no clue and still just keeps on giving me antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Then he examined me to see if there's more to the condition then he finally realise that I have tonsillitis by checking my throat all swollen and red, which is what is causing breathing problem/inflamed nose. He prescribe me antibiotics to take for maximum 7 days I took it but all the symptoms am suffering from didn't go.
Avatar n tn Shortly after finishing amox throat becomes sore again. Prescribed APO-AZITHROMYCIN, throat worsened. Prescribed PMS-CIPROFLOXACIN 500MG as well as some APO-BENZYDAMINE throat gargle. After 5 days of treatment my tonsils and uvula are severely swollen with a some white specs on the tonsils. The pain has intensified on my right side.
Avatar n tn We went to the doctor today and they confirmed she does not have flu and does not have strep. However, she does have what looks like to be an abscess on her top right gum line. Could this be the cause of her fever and swollen glands?
Avatar m tn After some googling I have seen a couple of similar posts where people get both the strep g throat infection and anal abscess. Thanks in advance!

Avatar m tn So basically I was just wondering if anyone could provide me any advice about this. I haven't had a horrible sore throat from strep or whatever it is for awhile, it definitely has been a few years. I'm hoping that these antibiotics do help me and I will recover in the next week, but I am not completely confident since that is exactly what I thought about the last two antibiotics.
