Avatar f tn But I read online that the drug causes bone demineralization, so I want to know if I have to take something else alongside the drug to avoid bone loss.
Avatar m tn A study of TAF use showed equivalent virologic suppression and less bone toxicity compared to TDF, suggesting that bone toxicity is more closely related to tenofovir, while virologic efficacy is most closely related to intracellular tenofovir diphosphate concentrations (27).
Avatar m tn Has anyone on Tenofovir or Adefovir experienced bone loss especially in the jaw? My dentist said I have general bone loss of my jaw which is usually due to periodontitis, but my oral hygiene is great. I don't seem to have the classic signs of periodontitis. They are unsure why I have bone loss. I was wondering if it is related to these drugs. Seeking experiences from others on these drugs.

Avatar m tn Researchers Find Tenofovir Increases Hip Bone Loss in Older Patients Hepatitis B patients treated with the front-runner antiviral tenofovir (Viread) run a risk of reduced bone mass in their hip area, according to a recent report in the August issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases. The risk of weaker hip bones resulting from tenofovir treatment is more pronounced in older patients who smoke, are thinner with lower body mass, and have advanced liver disease.
Avatar m tn Recently my doctor decided to put me on Viread (Tenofovir) instead. As I have read, some people are experiencing bone density loss due to Tenofovir therapy. Is it advisable that I start taking supplements like calcium and vitamin D along with my therapy to prevent bone loss? Thank you.
Avatar m tn 5 mg i want to switched her from entehep to tenofovir but i heard thai it has side effect on kidney and bone loss so how to overcome this situation.
Avatar m tn Tenofovir (Viread, also in the Truvada, Atripla, Complera, and Stribild coformulations) is among the most widely used antiretroviral drugs, as it is highly effective and generally regarded as safe and well-tolerated. However, it can cause kidney toxicity in susceptible individuals and is associated with bone loss that begins soon after starting treatment.
Avatar m tn Hi Aydin1358, humeral head osteonecrosis has been confirmed, it is very rare so tenofovir is probably the cause together with the trauma, i read a study about tenofovir bone loss, tdf boosts resorption and slow down building new bones, it was a quick read so i may miss something.
Avatar f tn it has no sides, only less than 1% experience lowering of gfr so kidneys function must be controlled every month for the first 6 months of therapy to see if kidneys experience a decrease in gfr (creatinine is not good because you can have lower kidnys function and normal creatinine), other sides is loss of bone mineral density but if you have active hbv even liver damage leads to loss of bone mineral density and lower vitamin D since this is only on less than 1% cases almost every drug can low
Avatar f tn I am just close to a year but I started feeling some backpains which I think I can link to bone loss due Tenefovir. I was undetected for HBV DNA and Hbeag -ve before treatment but had some liver damage (7.4kpa, mild elevated ALT and always felt lethargic and mild feverish). Now I am abit healthier but just the pain. Can I stop taking the Tenefovir as I was undetectable before using it anyway.
Avatar m tn telbivudine plus tenofovir 12 months, discontinue telbivudine and add pegintf for another 12months tenofovir protects from telbivudine resistance telbivudine rescue immune system faster than other antivirals for pegintff add on to cure hbv you need a researcher or very expert liver specialist, a simple liver specialist is not expert enough on these strategies of all choices tenofovir must be present because it has the highest chance to clear hbv in your situation (no entecavir or other anti
Avatar f tn Wishing you all the best, keep up the fight!
Avatar f tn 1. A lot of people report kidney and bone issues with Tenofovir Disproxil Fumarate (TDF). Its supposed to be low but Ive seen a lot of members report it. 2. Both etv and tdf have to be processed through renal tubes so both can impact kidneys but most people are ok. The Tenofovir TAF is supposed to be very good. 3. Entecavir in high doses in animal studies was causing cancer but no human cases reported yet. 4. Tenofovir has a stonger resistsnce profile for mutants.

Avatar m tn Below is an old post from Stef, this is the post that calculated that it would take 17 years to clear HBsAg with Tenofovir and 63 years with Telbivudine. I am just reposting so that more people get to know it. Thanks to Stef for having found it. Avatar m tn Members the first line oral anti viral for hepatitis b is tenofovir and according to doctor it is long life use. My question are 1) what is the efficacy and safety of tenofovir for says 10years or 15 years or 20years ? 2) what is the longest years of taking tenofovir that we have on record now?
Avatar m tn It's safe. I've been on it for almost a year. The worst side effects you might see are some kidney issues or bone loss, but it doesn't happen in everyone. Read some posts on here, especially from stef2011, for some things that will help along he way. Your numbers are very similar to mine when mine went "active". Be glad your doctor is willing to do this for you.
Avatar m tn Another important component in the US is insurance. If you find after monitoring you may benefit from antivirals, most doctors here would say either would work. If going for Viread they will test kidney's first. For those with prior Lamivudine then Entecavir may have resistance, so may recommend Viread from the start.
Avatar n tn The label on my bottle says to not take the tenofovir with ibuprofen. However, I previously asked my doctor if ibuprofen (among many other question I had) would be okay to take alongside it occasionally --- and he said it was no problem. Hmmm. What to believe? The label or the doctor? o_O Any personal experience with the interaction of these two medications?
Avatar m tn I'm on Tenofovir for past 7 Years and My Serum creatinine is 1.1 mg/dL and eGFR is 86 % . Rest all the parameters like BUN,URIC acid are normal. LFT is normal and HBV PCR is undetected for past 7 years Should I bother about the eGFR value ?
