tamiflu for pneumonia

If pneumonia, is this a new pneumonia, a pneumonia condition caused by the flu virus itself, or standard pneumonia(s)? If a standard pneumonia, will a pneumonia shot five years ago give any protection, and/or would one now give any protection? Also, will Tamiflu from 2004 still work?

I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 3RD baby. I came down with a cold on Thursday. My cough is horrible and I have been running fevers a lot. I called my OB and she called in a RX for tamiflu. I've never been on it before but she assured me that it was safe. She said my cough may turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that may be worse then taking the meds. I never went thru this with my boys so I'm a little unsure. I did research and it seems safe. What are others opinion on this.

Yes. Your doctor should have given you a prescription of Tamiflu immediately. It would have helped tremendously. If you are having trouble breathing and your chest hurts, you need to get to the doctor, immediately.

t realize how sick I had gotten and it turned into pneumonia. I was hospitalized for 9 days with it.

i think i have pneumonia i am always tired even though i get enough sleep im having chest pain cough and pretty much all the signs of this should i go to the doctor ?

Flu will go away---- and keeping her as comfortable as possible and hydrated is the most important thing. What becomes dangerous with flu are the secondary infections. pneumonia for example. I'd CALL your pediatrician for guidance. When should the flu run its course -- are they sure it is the flu (did they do the in office test)-- is there anything you can give her (but probably just Tylenol or ibuprofen. I gave my kids mucinex (they make childrens) at that age too.

5 and stayed around this for 4 days my cough was getting worse so I took Tamiflu. After one pill of tamiflu I had terrible hives all over my body. I never had anything like this before. My doctor prescribed me one injection of Tavegyl and Zyrtec and Erius for 5 days. And only after five days my hives disappeared. I was also advised to do Interferon injection 3 days later from my scheduled date. This is just my experience.

My only comment is that our local hospital (I work there) is prescribing tamiflu (an anti-viral) for patients in the high-risk groups if they come down with flu symptoms. This needs to be started as soon as possible to have the maximum effect. Please advise your daughter to call her PCP or her oncologist to get this prescription right away!

Many people with MS took it and it was also used in Parkinsons. Amantadine stopped working for flu so we now have tamiflu. So many people have been given tamiflu a resistance must happen shortly. A nasty chesty cough is typical with swine flu but chest infections and pneumonia are complications. If she is continuing to bring up green mucus I would insist on seeing her GP.

t realise I was that sick as I was still exercising during part of it (struggling though and quiet dumb in hindsight) and going to work (during the time crackling in lung was identified but I did not get diagnosed till a week later after doc said to come back for check up. As the crackling got worse I took an xray).

it was too late for Tamiflu) and he was good to go. Tamiflu is very expensive and from what I have heard time, rest, and fluids unfortuantely.

With the flu,...in my experience,....you just gotta "ride it out".....don't try to do anything but lay around in your snuggly pajamas and rest....take some aspirin for your fever, try to keep hydrated with water and juices or 7-up (not sprite).....and when you feel up to eating something,....THE BEST thing is chicken noodle soup,...or cream of chicken soup.....there's something magical in that broth. I used to get them for 3 weeks, and once I was coughing all night for a month afterwards but the doc said it was just a long lasting event but I didn't have pneumonia. Now I get the flu shot instead of dealing with that.

Mainly for prevention i was exposed to three different people who had it but I started showing some symptoms it just makes me nervous I've been uncomfortable since yesterday a lot of stretching feelings and some mild cramps.

He was given Tamiful within the first 48 hours and he is recovering very well. I do believe had it not been for the Tamiflu he would be feeling much worse for a longer period of time. I'm a believer!

Do not know if i was given antibiotics for bacterial pneumonia or antivirals for viral pneumonia and respiratory syncytial virus, from what i've read those could include ribavirin, tamiflu, relenza, iv antibiotics, amantadine etc. Took an elisa after 6 months of my possible exposure and it came back negative. 1) Does testing under any type of pneumonia viral/bacterial or RSV can give me a false negative?

30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and just found out I have the flu. My OB put me on Tamiflu but my primary said she wasn't sure about it. Has anyone been on this while pregnant? I'm worried it's going to hurt the baby. Also it did get the flu vaccine, I was only a couple weeks pregnant so I didn't know but I'm a little mad they push a vaccine that obviously doesn't work.

told us that he was not eleigible to recieve a prescription for Tamiflu. Where can I find any federal or state restictions for eleigibility.

t do a thing for him until it progressed to pneumonia...he had a fever of 104.5 the first time he went into the ER (with meds!!) Then as it got worse and into his chest more he went back and they gave him multiple meds...that was 2 weeks ago and he is pretty much back to normal now. Most cases don't end in death, but it's definatly not something to mess around with...I work in a hospital in a critical care unit right now we have a 25 year old with H1N1, pneumonia, AND strep B.

Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.

OB says to take Tamiflu and start today, but Tamiflu is not recommended for pregnancy based on unknown reactions to unborn children. Hubby and I don't know what decision is the best for us. Any opinions? The prescription is waiting for me...just so scared either way. I am leaning towards taking my chances and not taking it, but that is not the recommendation. What if I harm my baby by taking it? What if I do by not taking it??

My OB called me and told me that as a prevention she wanted to put me on Tamiflu which is not recommended for pregnant women because the side effects are unknown. She said that the benefits would outweigh the negatives most likely because there have already been deaths linked to this strain of flu. The pharmacist didn't seem worried because I am 18 weeks along. Any of you ladies been put on tamiflu? Should I trust my doctor and pharmacist?

I agree with the ladies above get to the dr asap. They will give you tamiflu. I felt better a day later took longe for the cough to go away. Good luck . I kno you feel like dealth. Hope for a speedy and safe recovery.

If you might have influenza you should contact your doctor right away to ask for Tamiflu. It can lessen the severity and longevity of influenzas if taken early in the infection. Otherwise eat lots of real chicken soup (my pulmonologist recommended this to me when I had pneumonia, citing numerous scientific studies showing more rapid recoveries) and use only mild OTC remedies.
