Does tamiflu work

Common Questions and Answers about Does tamiflu work

Avatar n tn Flu vaccine does not work. But Tamiflu is safe. Rest with plenty of fluids and it shall pass.
Avatar m tn My fevere goes up and down but really doesn't stay down permanently. I am taking tamiflu, theraflu, Motrin as prescribed by the doctors. My throat feels ripped open and today I noticed that there is some blood in the phlegm that I cough up. Is this a sign of pneumonia?
Avatar f tn My husband also has the flu, but his work will not let him off. I feel so helpless. Our house is a disaster and I'm not getting any better. Does anyone have any advice for me? TIA.
Avatar f tn the virus itself causes pneumonia, pneumonia is a symptom not a condition....check the expiration date on the tamiflu and a pneumonia shot probably wont do any good seeing as this is an unseen unheard of virus until now.
202665 tn?1248810333 Often though self medication in the form of recreational drugs and the other things you describe does become an unhealthy obsession that replaces what medication could work on. But as for obsessions a family member diagnosed with as yet to be treated bipolar overheard in the pharmacy that someone was buying Tamiflu and an antibiotic and they had gotten wet in the rain was hysterical they would get the flu. They only told me afterwards. Yet they don't engage in any of those behaviors.
Avatar f tn He told me to force fluids and give advil for the fever. He called to check on her a few hours later. She was feeling much worse, so he called in Tamiflu. Over night, her fever remained around 99.7 while on round the clock advil. Once the advil wears off, the fever goes back to 103. This morning, she is complaining of head, neck and back pain to the point where she cannot lay down comfortably. She says it hurts for her to bend her neck to her chest, but she is able to do it.
242516 tn?1368227505 Some very sick pregnant women with H1N1 and pneumonia have benefited from Tamiflu even starting a week after symptoms started. Tamiflu is not recommended for prophylaxis-- to prevent getting H1N1. It is most appropriate for persons who have high risk conditions (e.g. pregnancy) and who are household contacts of suspected or confirmed H1N1 patients. There are a few reports of Tamiflu-resistant pandemic H1N1 viruses.
Avatar f tn So if this does happen and they have been given tamiflu for the wrong reason it probably wont work when they need it. Not only that it will give false figures and when we think we are in the clear, all the people who were misdiagnosed will probably catch it later towards the winter. The virus will never burn out at this rate. The best way to burn it out is to let it run its natural course.
Avatar f tn He is a college freshman and was prescribed Tamiflu by the clinic there. He took the meds for 2 days and then he felt better so he decided he was fine. UGH!!!! He was diagnosed almost two weeks ago, although I realize that stopping the medication was not the smartest and best thing to do, he is still sufferring from a headache. He says he feels better if he takes two advil each day, but he doesn't want to continue doing that much longer.
Avatar m tn I thought it might be herpes and began to self medicate with what I had available. I started taking tamiflu and smearing Abreva on my shaft. A few days later I got a blood test for herpes 1 and 2. Both showed negative results. 1 was 0.0 and 2 was 0.04. Within three or four days, the redness and swelling went down and shortly after the scabs starting coming off.
Avatar n tn But there could be other strains going around this year that it will not work for. Specialmom is right tamiflu only works within the first few hours and after that there is not Mich you can so other than rest, Tylenol and fluids.
6708370 tn?1471493810 Do you have an 'Ask a Nuese' program through your health Ins or does your hospital offer one? Might call them, if you do. But, basically, I am with Jules on this one. If you decide to go, do you have someone to drive you? Prayers!
551343 tn?1506834118 She gave her symptoms, a bit of a cold, sore throat, cough, and mild temperature 38degrees. She was told that she had SWINE FLU and could have the tamiflu. NOW unless I am missing something here how the hell can you diagnose this on the phone? She just wants antibiotics for her chest she knows its an infection because she has had it before, so now she has been denied access to the surgery because they have said she has swine flu. This is ridiculous.
167 tn?1374177417 Tamiflu does not stop or cure any flu. The flu is a virus, it is already dead. Tamiflu only helps with the symptoms of the flu. I think i would take my chances with out the meds. Ill pray you dont get sick!
688450 tn?1259472334 Drink plenty of fluids to replace those you lose when sick. Your doctor will decide if you need antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu® (oseltamivir) or Relenza® (zanamivir). Antiviral drugs are prescription pills, liquids or inhalers that fight the flu by keeping germs from growing in your body. These medicines can make you feel better faster and make your symptoms milder.
Avatar m tn So, I was sitting in a chair at work, and all of a sudden I felt pain, right under my belly button. It hurt pretty bad, but nothing terrible. I am just getting over being sick with a respitory infection, so I have been coughing, and sneezing and blowing my nose. Its like an achy dull musley pain. It doesnt hurt too bad when I touch it, lay down, or stand. It hurts when I flex my muscles or when I bend down or something extreme.
7549973 tn?1391962323 I have chronic lyme, ehlers danlos syndrome, and a whole lot of other health issues. I had sudden onset of flu symptoms on dec 26th and while in the ER my fever was 102 and my white blood cell count was flagged as abnormally low (2.9). Since ER only deals with "life threatening" issues they didn't even mention that. They said "u have h1n1, u waited to long to come in and now the Tamiflu wont even work so just "ride it out".
358304 tn?1409713092 And I'm back at work, but wearing a mask and spraying lysol for the sake of my buddies here. I work in the back of an IT room... so I'm not wearing this silly mask in public scaring people haha. Thanks everyone.
865902 tn?1239312521 Before you get too “conspiracy theory” on me, let me assure you that I am not going to talk about how the influenza virus pandemic is the work of terrorists (unless the Napoleon and Snowball are trying to take over our farm). I am also not suggesting that children are terrorists (although some do raise my suspicion). The virus that brought such worry and even panic seems now to be “fizzling out” and people are now questioning if the authorities and the press overreacted to the threat.
Avatar f tn I had a Dr appt anyways on the 4th of March, so my dr put me on Tamiflu for 5 days. I started with the cough..had the fever, aches, chills etc. That subsided about a week later-except for the cough. Approximatly 03/10 I woke up, and my right ear was plugged solid. A day after, I went down at work to our wellness ctr, the physician there said fluid but no infection. I waited a couple days, was feeling awful, with the non stop unproductive cough and the ear that was now painful.
Avatar f tn I have gotten better from the flu , the only thing that has been bothering me is my throat , everytime I swallow anything water, juice, saliva etc it aches as my throat muscles does its work , when am not drinking water our eating it gets dried which then makes it itchy and I breath threw my nose so that wouldn't be why it's dry . I am in shock.
242516 tn?1368227505 You may benefit from Tamiflu or Relenza pills. What your doctor will do is test you for flu and if you have an untypeable flu (one that we doesn't match those we've seen before) it could be swine flu. I've been following the CDC on twitter at and at which CDC has promised to update at 3pm EST daily.
Avatar m tn Roche Holding AG's Tamiflu, known generically as oseltamivir, and GlaxoSmithKline Plc's Relenza, or zanamivir, are both recommended drugs for seasonal flu and have been shown to work against viral samples of the new disease. Tamiflu is expected to be in greatest demand should swine flu develop into a pandemic, as experts fear it may, since it is given as a tablet. Relenza must be inhaled.
1502806 tn?1289663913 So, I was thankful I had an appt with the doc that day and kept my appt. I was told it's the flu, given tamiflu and told to rest and drink hot liquids. I did that and my husband picked up my trams the next day. I took my trams (4) and felt better almost right away. (you'd think it would dawn on me). So two nights ago I had four pills left waiting on my internet order(:-0) to arrive on tuesday.
Avatar n tn But I do come to you for more advice. I took off of work Mon. and my regular days off are tues. and wed. and I called in sick thurs. and friday saying I had a wicked case of the flu and was overall run down. Which I am!! My job says that I have to have a doctors note to come back. I made an app. for tomorrow. Should I go in and play like I've had the flu or should I tell him/her the truth. So far I have nothing on record about my past problem with drugs.
Avatar m tn they reflect only what people most frequently search for. Probably most people who search about lymphopenia do so as you did, for fear of HIV/AIDS. So searching becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If your symptoms continue, I agree it would be a good idea to see your doctor. But not because HIV is a serious possibility. It is not. If you were my patient, I wouldn't even request an HIV test in this circumstance. In any case, you can rely on the negative HIV test you've already had.
Avatar n tn No worries hun. In work in healthcare and work with TONS of physicians and actually had to present on the CDC. it's confusing but your doctor is right. Every year they create a vaccination that protects against certain strains for example...they vaccinate for strain A. Most of the time what happens is the flu comes out and Its Mostly strain B. Which is a different flu strain. So what that means is it doesn't stop you from getting the flu since you were vaccinated for a different strain...
