concerta

Avatar f tn Its rare to hear from a person with add/adhd with their expieriances with the medicaions. I wanted to take my son off of concerta, due to ticks, but now you've given me something else to think about. This means more research for me but its worth it when it comes to my son.
Avatar n tn My son is taking Concerta 36mg. in the AM...and an afternoon dose of 10mg methylphenidate...HE DOES NOT HAVE AN Appetite...He says No thank You to EVERYTHING FOOD That I offer him since starting these meds.... He is 10 years old and have always had a great appetite.....HELP ....
Avatar m tn Dude, are you sure you are on 105mgs of Concerta. That is a huge dose! Or are you taking the med twice a day when it is only meant to be taken once a day? And yes, it does restrict the appetite. You need to have a really big breakfast before the med kicks in. Then for after school have protein bars or protein drinks that can be easily eaten (whether you are hungry or not). but mainly, let me know about that dose. The max is listed as 54mgs once a day.
Avatar n tn My son takes Concerta as well as his sister They are both on a dose of risperdal as well. Trevor is ADHD Combined type He's 5 y/o and takes 27 mgs of Concerta Jessey his sister is 7 and takes a lower dose she is just ADD. I was having the same issues as you with these two it seemed when 7 p.m. came every night like clock work my kids turned in to monsters like the warewolf does when the sun goes down in the movies .
Avatar n tn I've been taking 18 mg of concerta for 16 years and it's been a great help to me! (I briefly tried another time released stimulant and it didn't work for me.) Going on and off it can be very distruptive though-- it is best to stay consistent with it. When I'm going back on it after a break, I tend to lose my appetite and have more trouble sleeping. I recommend taking it after breakfast at the same time every morning...
565294 tn?1216433315 class at school he has a iep and is taking concerta to help with his concentration. but he has lost 4 pd this month any one else notice the same side effect? also i live in oswego Illinois has any one herd of any support groups out there for moms and dads? or classes to help parents with dealing with adhd behaviors and how to respond better or how to say things better (to add encouragement) its a ttough job somedays.
Avatar f tn Well, see when I switched from Concerta to Adderall, I just stopped the Concerta and went to taking the Adderall XR. After a few months the XR did not seem to work very long or throughout the day. So, in 2007, I went on Adderall short acting pill form which generic form is amphetamine salts or amphetamine mix tabs. With this pill, first of all, it is extremely inexpensive. I pay $30 for 180 tabs 20 mg each. I cut each in half and take each half 4 times a day a total of 40mg.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 5 years old and has ADHD. She recently went on the drug Concerta, then her PCP prescribed cetirizine as well for hay fever that I didn't even realize she had. On a routine cardiology check for the Concerta meds, the cardiologist discovered my daughter had PACs. The cardiologist took her off all of her meds for 10 days and did another EKG. She still had the PACs even off meds. Now my daughter is on atenolol 2 mL per day, Concerta, and cetirizine all together.
Avatar f tn Most docotors also do not start out with Concerta as the medicine for a 5 year old. If you are still giving her the medicine, please talk to your doctor about the fact that this medicine maybe is not working. Maybe it is too high of a dosage or the wrong medicine. If she is behaving at home, maybe you can consider a medicine that is not as lasting as Concerta. At this age, you probably should only medicate her for school. Concerta is a 12 hour medicine.
Avatar f tn Hi Bill! Wow - 54 mg? Did you start off on a lower dose? That sounds awfully high... I've been on methylphenidate for about three years. (I take the brand Ritalin, but I'm pretty sure Ritalin and Concerta are about the same thing.) I started off on 5 mg, three times a day (of the non extended release) and I got a lot of benefit from it.
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 and has been on concerta since that time which has helped him tremendously until recently. It's as if the concerta has no effect on him anymore. his doctor said he can't up his dosage to 36 mg because of his weight (he weighs approx 65 pounds). Has anyone ever heard of this? I didn't think the dosage was based on weight.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn while coming off of concerta. The obvious answer would be stop taking it, but it really does help with my focus before it begins to wear off.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son has been taking Concerta for over a year. He has been beginning to twitch and it is noticeably worse. He does not take it during the summer months. So he has been with out it for about a month. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Avatar n tn My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
Avatar f tn I started taking 18 mg of Concerta once daily about 2 weeks ago. Oddly I have noticed two things: 1) I can no longer have my daily/morning coffee without severe nausea (even the pharmacist didn't have it as one of his warnings). 2) Despite the fact that it keeps me awake to the point that daytime napping is not possible I still feel exhausted most of the time which doesn't make much sense to me. Has anyone had anything like either of these things happen while they were taking it?

I don't know what to do because the Concerta is helping my ADD, but I also believe it at least played a part in my shingles outbreak.
Avatar n tn Interesting, I can find no mention of a 32mg dose of concerta. Is he on a 36 mg dose? if he is, "The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight." fish oil is certainly something worth trying. There are ones out there developed specifically for kids (chewable, etc), and they will have the suggested dosage on the bottle. I really can't see any reason that primrose (I assume the oil) would be worth your money.
1523516 tn?1330044257 When I went to see the MS Specialist in January, he gave me Ritalin for my memory/focus and it's also supposed to help with fatigue, giving me more energy. I am thinking it must take a while for it to kick in. After taking it in the mornings I feel a bit dizzy and "out of it" and then I feel better about an hour or two later. Still very fatigued and focus is about the same, a bit better I guess.
Avatar f tn s eyes seem to be dialated even in bright light. He is taking Concerta for ADHD and he seems more absent minded than usual. Can the Concerta be causing the side effect of the dialation to his eyes? I mean his eyes are almost completely black with a very thin line of blue around them. I checked his eyes this morning before he took his Concerta pill and his eyes were still dialated, but not as badly as after he takes the Concerta.
Avatar f tn my son is taking 36mg concerta and having headaches what can i give him for the pain
1031310 tn?1259857386 My son Michael just turned 10 years old in August,he has been taking concerta for his ADHD for approx. 2 years.Michael is not your typical 10 year old boy,he is very loving and very protective of me(his mother),he used to always have a smile on his face and something sweet to say. Three weeks ago after his father took him to a new church called The Promise Land and the next morning he woke up for school and was very distressed about a dream he had,he said he was having sex with amimals.
16613731 tn?1449676204 Nico, This message spoke to me. I am very much into holistics and finding the natural cure for everything. I'm taking Concerta 54mg but I have noticed although it works better than when not taking it at all (which I attribute probably to the withdrawals), it also definitely doesn't work as well as it first did in the beginning.
Avatar f tn I am 21 years old and was diagnosed with ADD about 3 months ago. My doctor started me on 18mg, and now I take 32mg in the morning and 18mg int he early afternoon, because i was experiencing a "come down" period at night. At first, it was great, I started reading again and was doing well at work and school. Progressively, I began to withdraw from social situations, I felt nervous and anxious. I cut many people out of my life because I couldnt handle their presence.
Avatar f tn Hey Corrie, Tics, muscle twitching and gastric issues are a pretty common side effect with Concerta, and with you developing the tics and gastric issues post starting, I would be still believe your facial tics are a Concerta side affect. It's actually a central nervous system stimulant and with you having MS, basically a faulty central nervous system, there's more potential for it to trigger tics and or to exacerbate other MS motor related issues.
Avatar m tn Ok thanks for ur help I'm just confused I'm not taking any more concerta took two 27 mg and day a part just wondering if that amount will still show up in a hair analyst
Avatar n tn I see this is an old question but I'm first time here and just will say 18mg Concerta will be overpowered as you didn't take any with high amount xanax, it's no spedball but can make some problems with tachychardia so be carefull....now if you take like 2mg xanax and 72mg Concerta and feel focused, motivated without anxiety f.e.
