Symbicort and prednisone

Common Questions and Answers about Symbicort and prednisone

symbicort

Avatar f tn It has the disadvantage of raising blood pressure, and very expensive, but it works very well and in some cases can eliminate the need for oral prednisone and all other medications. The manufacturer has a special till December and will give a months free supply to any physician making a request.
Avatar m tn To have you on prednisone and Symbicort sounds like overkill to me, since they are both steroids. Since nothing is working try another doctor.
Avatar f tn I started a new Job in October and ever since then I have had difficulty breathing and some days I lose my voice almost totally. I have been in and out of the Dr and now using Symbicort and taking prednisone. It is wierd this only happens during the week while I am at work. Weekends seen to be fine after a little time away. Is this Asthma or am I alergice to my workplace? Should I test the air quality?
1580703 tn?1651904887 at what dosage dose and length of time does prednisone cause brain damage and memory problems, thinking problems? thanks!
1580703 tn?1651904887 ve been having breathing problems and chronic fatigue with asthma even after taking Symbicort and singulair regularly. I was prescribed 30mg prednisone for a week. is this high dose ok?
1580703 tn?1651904887 Prednisone is a bad medicine and can cause lots of bad side effects. You are on a relatively low dose. 1 month at 10 mg should not cause any major problems. You shouldn't have any issues with withdrawal when you go off that dose suddenly. I know people who are 5 mg every day for life. I do question the effectiveness of this dosage though. I think you would benefit fro an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) more than oral pred for long term use. Take care and feel better.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was diagnosed with acute asthma last year and have been on symbicort/proventil for months, also singulair and took prednisone and methylprenisolone and I am still having breathing problems and chest tightness. taking some HC lately helped me breathe better and relax but still having breathing problems today. can you please help me??
Avatar f tn I was using Advair increasingly the past month till I experienced my first significant flare (had to do an internet search to actually find out what a flare meant) that drove me to see my doc.....she first put me on Symbicort and a decreasing prednisone RX. By the end of the week, the Symbicort did allow me to take the inhalation deeper but only seemed to help about 4-5 hours before the SOB returned, and the prednisone didn't seem to be making a difference.
920958 tn?1477577593 The symptoms have not gotten better. I went to my Pulmonary doctor yesterday and was given more prednisone and symbicort. I have chest pain when coughing, bending and last night I was awakened by chest pain (I was sleeping on my back). I have a Loop recorder in my chest so I sent communication through to my cardiologist thinking it could be heart related. I was just hospitalized for syncope & have been having problems with dizziness, fatigue and migraines since 6/26.
959034 tn?1253671476 I take Prednisone, Symbicort, and Theo-Dur all daily. I use my ProAir only as needed. Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn My Best Friend was sick with a hacking cough, and within 2 days of her spreading her germs I caught upper respiratory infection. I took antibiotic, and tried taking prednisone and symbicort. I simply cannot deal with side effects. Took some natural stuff too, need to get rid of this awful wheezing. What can I do?
718416 tn?1259680550 I looked up Symbicort online (WebMd had an excellent write up for example). I know the fast acting inhalers like albuterol can cause temporary increased heart rate (about 10-15 minutes). That's the one I use most often. Next comes the steroids (oral or inhaled) for asthma management. I've used beclomethasone in the past and that's helped. My kids have used prednisone (oral) a few times but I personally avoid that one.
Avatar f tn Re my question - re coughing fits - I posted an article re coughing April to November for many years and the only thing to stop this was prednisone. Approx 6 weeks ago I started on SYMBICORT and have stopped coughing. Everyone is shocked!!! I cant explain how its feels. Almost as though I have gone on holiday as I am not coughing any more. I may give the odd slight cough but its only a one off perhaps every 3-4 days and it is only like clearing my throat.
1580703 tn?1651904887 If I am having breathing problems even after using symbicort, singulair and my FEV1 is in the low 80s how bad is my asthma? Does this mean my lungs are permanently damaged and will get worse with time?

Avatar m tn I have numbness in hands, toes and body after taking prednisone. Immediate similar reaction after inhaling Symbicort. Called my doctor for advise, he sends me to the Emergency room saying that these are sympoms of stroke. Have asthma and know that in the hospital I will be staffed with more cortizone type medicine. Should not there be some remedy for relieving symptoms? Definitely I have allergy, feel synus. Why the only recommendation are steroids?
Avatar n tn I also see a rheumotologist for UCTD and am on Placquenil and prednisone (5 mg or less QD during flares.) Was put on Spiriva and Symbicort. Had to stop Spiriva due to intolerable cholinergic effects. Am fine so far with just the Symbicort. Talked with Rheumy about value of CT scan and if it would change any of the treatments. He felt no. To me is just seems like a very expensive test and wouldn't really change anything. I don't have any clinical signs at this time of PH.
Avatar m tn I am a 32 year old male with a somewhat mild case of asthma, and I take symbicort and albutoral as medication. I hate it. I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect. Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?
Avatar m tn Steroid inhalers work wonders (Advair, Symbicort just to name a couple),, and my father is 62 also, and he has been doing a breathing treatment daily for years and years.. I really think your father needs to see another doctor and get another opinion and maybe a new treatment regimene started. Hope this helps.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I still can't exhale well and have resistance even on symbicort and prednisone, comibvent inhaler. is low oxygen eventually going to kill some of my brain cells? will pangraf or xolair (my IGE 165) help me breathe? my O2 is down to 86-88 during the day.
Avatar n tn t quite sure myself about the Symbicort and blood sugar levels, so I did a little research and here is a link to what I found - it comes directly from the Symbicort website. http://www.mysymbicort.com/asthma/index.aspx?source=20048&WT.
959034 tn?1253671476 My doctor is letting me choose between flovent and qvar to take with my Symbicort. Which works better? I'm still trying to get off prednisone.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I had a recent pulmonary function test and my FEV1 level went down to 73% even though I've been on Symbicort/singulair and prednisone 30mg day. I developed asthma after being around 2nd hand smoke for a few months. Does this mean that my lungs will get worse with time? What can I do to improve my lung function? thanks very much!
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have been taking symbicort for over a year and my FEV1 was still 73 after this. I'm trying dulera now but I still seem to have asthma attacks in small rooms. has my brain been damaged by 75% O2 at night (from my sleep study)? I'm having serious memory and concentration problems which may destroy my career. I have a brain cyst in my clivus and have mostly clear airway apneas (very irregular graph) and hypopneas and rarely obstructive apnea. thanks very much!
Avatar f tn I am on my 2nd from last day of finishing a medrol steriod pack and yesterday started experiencing the anxiety. It is horrible and I feel like my breathing is getting worse. I also feel very foggy. I do know that the steriods will weaken your adrenals and you need to support these with high dosages of vit b and also magnesium is imperative to us with asthma. I hadn't had an attack in 10 yrs and bam! My doctor wants me to take symbicort and singulair to see if they help.
