Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone for life

suboxone

Avatar m tn Hello, I was taking four Vicodin es for seven years. I have been on suboxone 2 mg for over four years. I have tried to taper off and I have gone cold turkey for three days but I felt terrible and went back to suboxone. I work 70 hours a week and I have a family to support so going to a rehab is out of the question. I would love to get off this stuff and be free of it but I am afraid of going back to pills. How long can you stay on suboxone and what long term harm will it do?
1468545 tn?1296601775 Went from that to methadone or whatever I could get my hands on for about a year. Then suboxone for 1-2 year but never did more than 1mg a day of suboxone. So although my w/d was 100% from suboxone I still feel im cleaning my body of the last 6-7 years. Im on my day 16 now though and figured I would be getting some normal sleep and thats just not the case. When I lay down my minds still going 1 million mph and I still start rocking occasionally.
Avatar f tn ?? Does anyone know the Half life of SUBOXONE - Beprenorphine.? I HEARD it was 70 hours, but that's what I heard....unsure if that is even accurate?
Avatar n tn getting clean is not really the hard part...the hard part for me is staying clean and is that way for most....u need to stay on track after u r in the clear and aftercare helps...there are support groups for narcotic abuse all over the US...all over every city..at all times of the day and night....818- 773-9999 is the NA number and that is free...there is also a number to call for counseling from an addiction specialist but i am sure that is not free.....
Avatar n tn Some worked fine for a few weeks and then just stopped working. The Suboxone has been a life saver! It relieves my pain almost completely and my mood hasn't been this good for ages. I had been complaining to my docs about low energy and no ability to concentrate for more than a minute. Today I sat down a wrote 7 pages of a paper for college, working non-stop. My recall has improved and I have enough energy that I jump out of bed in the morning and hit the floor running.
1392838 tn?1291404363 I can't tell u what to do but I can tell u my experience. I was a using every pill imaginable from perks to oxycontin. I was way out of control.!! I sought help at the local methadone clinic. I was on methadone for about 2 years I went from 90mgs to 20 mgs and switched to suboxone. Since the methadone caused me to have some major withdrawls and depression. I was on suboxone for about 1 week and starte tappering from it immediatly. I was off of it in 3 months.
Avatar f tn Has suboxone actually worked for someone. And did you get off of suboxone too?
323051 tn?1206924683 Oxys have a very long half life and you have to wait until you are at least in withdrawal to take Sub. 24-48 hours for the longer acting pills. On the right side of the forum is a section called Health pages. There is info on Sub in several articles. Two of them submitted by me.

335763 tn?1221851547 Can opoid use ruin your life? YOU BET IT CAN. But for how long it ruins your life is up to you. I am on day 15 from sub withdrawal. It took a full 10 days to be able to get out of bed. But I did it as many many others have and you can too.
Avatar m tn I agree with wolfmedicine. From watching my daughter, I would not recommend Suboxone for long term. If it will get you off the drug you are currently on and you know you will only be on it short term, then yes. Suboxone made my daughter's life normal, (Fentyl patch for 3-5 yrs) but she has been going through withdrawals for 16 days today from Suboxone. It has been hard to watch.
Avatar n tn I am fully functioning but mentally a mess! I want my old life back. My connection has Suboxone, I know I should seek a Dr. and go through it with them but I am paranoid then it will be in my medical records, insurance etc. I was wondering if anyone knows a taper method with suboxone for about 8-14 pills that they have tried and done? Any suggestions are welcome. I know I have to wait 24-36 hours to start (must be in w/d) to start, and start at 4mg and see how it feels...
Avatar m tn If so then you may have a good plan. Suboxone can be helpful for chronic relapsers. It allows you the time to get your life in order and work on skills that you can use to stay clean later on. Just know that if you stay on the Suboxone any length of time you will need to taper off under a doctor's care and you will withdraw from it as well.
Avatar f tn i have been on suboxone for/subutex for almost 2 years. I started out my recovery on suboxone then switched 2 mo. later due to my pregancy, i just recently changed back from subutex to suboxone and I have been experienced alot of issues with suboxone films. Im on 10mg films a day which would be one and i cut 2 mg off the other film, once a day.
Avatar n tn have been clean for months I have been taking suboxon 2mg twice a day and an antidepresent every day I see my doctor once a week and drop urine every time on the initial test I have been clean but when it comes up on the computer he says that i have oxymorphone in my system, this just cant be what could cause this.
Avatar f tn My doctor has kept me on Suboxone at 8 mg for 7 months and doesn't say anything about tapering down, she doesn't take insurance so it's self pay and its adding up!! She won't even give refills, can I start tapering down on my own??
Avatar n tn My PC mentioned the suboxone and I have not heard of it being good for this. I worked with a Dr. that help pts detox off of drugs with suboxone.
Avatar m tn I can only speak for suboxone users but I think methadone users have the same mentality. We use the drugs to help us get off of our drug of choice. Suboxone is an opiate blocker. Knowing I cannot get high off of opiates comforts me and takes a lot of the mental out of staying clean. I am unsure of the withdrawals from suboxone, but I am sure they are a lot less intense than opiates. Hope I helped.
372880 tn?1332879487 Hi wannawean, Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on wanting to quit and for taking the first step by quitting your DOC. I was on suboxone for nearly 4 years - if you can do it, please don't take suboxone long term, you are correct, the withdrawals from suboxone are long and while the manufacturer and docs say that it is only a partial agonist and should not be as bad, the long half life makes the withdrawl much longer. Tapering is the only way.
Avatar m tn I am a 36 yr old male, who has dealt with being prescribed pain medication all my life for my health reasons. I had a doctor in Johnson City TN. He has closed his practice and has moved to California. I made the switch to a doctor who is brand new in prescribing suboxone. I feel the therapist does not understand or can relate to what it has been like to be an addict. When I found Suboxone it was a miracle.
Avatar m tn I fully understand that utilizing Suboxone for this purpose has a risk of potential addiction, but for me it would be worth it to save my life. It's been a long haul for me to live with this condition in it's worst manifestation. Obviously this would not be a good option for anyone that can be effectivly treated with more traditional forms of therapy, but that is not the case with me.
