Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and pregnancy

suboxone

Avatar f tn I believe the biggest concern right now is not sex drive , but how Suboxone can affect the baby or the pregnancy. Suboxone is a class C medication meaning that it has not been shown to be safe or harmful in pregnancy. This is from the Suboxone website: Before taking SUBOXONE, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
Avatar f tn I had the experience and the CYS were really nice and understanding talking about the suboxone treatment.

Avatar n tn There was a post on here last week about a lady who was on methadone during pregnancy and while breast feeding and when she stopped her baby seemed to be in withdrawals...so she was breaking up methadone and feeding it to her baby..........Just unreal !!!!! So just be honest with the doctor im sure they have seen it all and the fact that your on Suboxone must mean you intend to stop abusing and do whats right..... Good luck.
Avatar f tn PART 1/2. I have been a heroin addict for 2 years/opiate addict for over five yrs. Just learned I'm prego today. I want help - more than anything I want help. I'd like to begin a suboxone/subutex treatment but how can I make that happen immediately? How can I make that happen before I need my next heroin dose and begin experiencing withdraws?
Avatar f tn I am looking for anyone who has knowledge or experience with Suboxone and affects on the menstrual cycle. I have been taking suboxone prescribed since january. My periods have been relatively normal since, 3-5 days, light, sometimes normal. Last month (march) I only got a one day verrry light period. I have not had anything since. I last had unprotected sex with my ex in the beginning of march. My period is due in the middle of the month. I took 2 pregnancy tests and both were negative.
Avatar n tn i am 3 weeks pregnant, 26yrs old, been on suboxone 3months just got switched to subutex, 1st pregnancy that I'm following thru with, WHERE CAN I GET INFO ON SUBUTEX AND PREGNANCY ? is it safe to be on...does anyone have personal experience....please help..
Avatar f tn I was addicted to the same thing. When I became pregnant I told my doctor about it and that I wanted to quit but it was so hard cause if withdrawal. So he put me on suboxone. I've been taking it my whole pregnancy. It makes you feel like hydrocondone does only it's better for your health. It stops you from withdrawing. it also doesn't show up in a drug test either. Anyways yes doctors do drug test you. And yes they can take your baby from you at the hospital if he/she tests positive.
Avatar n tn ve had 2 babies while on Methadone the 1st I was on 80mg and she had no withdrawals the 2nd I was on 40mg and she did have withdrawals and spent 12 days in the NICU and was on morphine. I was told it doesn't really depend on your dose if your baby does or doesn't withdrawal, it just depends on the baby. I'm definately trying to get off the Methadone before I have this one.
Avatar n tn d received(I usually got the response that they had never seen a list that big before, a quantity that high before) Anyway I was ashamed and scared so I said nothing and she suffered if I had to do it again I would go to maybe a different doc or directly to the methadone or suboxone clinic depending on how it works where you are and talk to them and tell them what you have been doing and they will help you and perhaps help you with a legal script that in the end will save you from being illegall
Avatar f tn does suboxone affect pregnancy test at home, i've missed 4periods and urine home test says negative but i think i have pregnancy symptoms.
Avatar n tn It seems I have read more about withdrawels and miscarriage than adverse effects of the suboxone. I took vicodin (heavily) my whole pregnancy with my second son (hence the suboxone now) and he turned out perfectly perfect. Mostly worried about any damage so far. I will quit today if I know there is going to be problems. looking forward to your response!
142722 tn?1281533616 Suboxone Pregnancy There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of SUBOXONE (a Category C medication) in pregnancy. SUBOXONE should not be taken during pregnancy unless your doctor determines that the potential benefit to you justifies the potential risk to your unborn child. Contraception should be used while taking SUBOXONE. If you are considering becoming pregnant or do become pregnant while taking SUBOXONE, consult your doctor immediately.
Avatar f tn Have withdrawals or not? My cousin was prescribed suboxone throughout her whole pregnancy and the dr told her to stop a week before the baby is born and when she had her baby he was perfectly fine. I just wanna know if it’ll be the same for me too ?
2049784 tn?1332143516 Suboxone has narcan in it which is not good for the baby. Subutex is what is used during pregnancy. Both have buprenorphine but subutex does not have narcan. The doc who prescribed you suboxone will continue to prescribe but will switch to subutex. It is best to do that then risk using suboxone or going back to opiates and it helps with pain which u will experience with pregnancy. It should be a decision you and your doc make. I would advise you to get an appt and discuss ur options.
Avatar f tn For the first pregnance I was on Subutex as the doctor I was seeing then said that was better than being on Suboxone. Once I gave birth he put me on Suboxone and I have been on that now for almost a year. I have switched doctors during this process and really like my new doctor but he is privately insured and can't prescribe the Subutex to me. I have looked and called everywhere with no luck.
Avatar f tn Hi. I was reading a lot of the forums on here and came across a lot of women who are currently pregnant and on suboxone or struggling with substance abuse issues. I have been on suboxone for about 3 years and got pregnant accidentally but through discussing it with my fiance we chose to keep the baby... I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and have done everything by the book and then some. I was extremely hesitant to tell my OBGYN that I take suboxone.
Avatar f tn Most physicians have little to no experience with (or much knowledge of) methadone and how it works and especially methadone and pregnancy. A doctor must hold special licensing to prescribe methadone for opiate addiction, and have the appropriate opiate-substitution training to do so. Therefore, you may not always get the current or correct advice from a general physician or OB-GYN. Your methadone clinic can't steer you to an OB-GYN with the correct addiction training.
Avatar n tn i'm currently pregnant as well and an opid dependant, i was on suboxone and they told me to get on methadone, i'm currently on that. i see a mid wife and she says it's the safest. there is also a possibilty that when the baby is born there will be no addiction to the methadone. the withdrawl is more harmful on the baby then anything. just make sure your doctor knows everything. she's not alone. i know exactly what you guys are going threw.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anybody else out there is taking this combination.i do have ADHD but also a 12 year addiction to opiates.so I read that people who are not treated for ADHD tend to self medicate.it was for legitimate pain at first after breaking back.so I talked to my doctor about it,and man what a difference in down from 16mg suboxone to 8mg after starting the vyvanse,at first I never thought I would ever come off suboxone.next month going to 4mg and so on until I'm off.
Avatar f tn You are still opiate dependent and if you continue to be on methadone through your pregnancy, your child will also be born opiate dependent. Your baby will be in withdrawals after birth and will have be spend time in the Neonatal ICU to go through those withdrawal. If you choose to nurse your baby while you are still on methadone, there have been documented cases of babies dieing due to respiratory suppression (they stop breathing).
Avatar f tn not much research has been done on suboxone and pregnancy, although it is not completely unheard of., still you really need to discuss this with your sub doc.... and also get to your baby doc for prenatal care ASAP...good luck and let me know what you get for answers. boy or girl??
