Common Questions and Answers about Stomach pains after bypass

Avatar f tn One thing I did notice from my bypass experience is that although all the usual pains had gone after around 12 months, it was still very easy to pull muscles after that for about another year. It took a very long time for my chest muscles to fully recover to the point that I had the same strength as before the bypass. I met other patients in cardiac rehab who had received bypass surgery as far back as five years and still found odd chest pains in the muscles.
Avatar n tn Normally if it was gastric bypass, the surgery cures gerd . by removing the stomach, there are few cells to produce acid. Question, have you gained weight back at all recently? What type of bypass did you have? There are a couple of different ways they do it.
Avatar n tn HI IM A MAIL 71 YEARS OLD I HAD A BYPASS 10 YEARS AGO BUT I STILL GET PAINS IN MY CHEST AND SOMETIMES ITS SO SEVERE THE PAIN GOES THROUGH TO MY BACK BETWEEN MY SHOULDER BLADES.
Avatar f tn I had the same thing three years ago. Everytime i ate something, I had severe (what I thought were stomach) pains. The more I ate, the longer it lasted. Strangely, drinking fluids made no pains appear. I had this for three days and finally went to ER. It turned out my heart was in trouble because it couldn't cope with the extra demand called by the stomach to digest food. I required an emergency stent.
611067 tn?1458591483 There are many possible reasons for your stomach pain, and frankly, because you had gastric bypass surgery and you are describing this pain as killing you, and hurting really badly, a visit to your doctor is warranted. As a matter of fact, you should be seeing him or her to discuss this whole topic. He or she would be in the best position to recommend an effective and appropriate treatment for your pain, and would be the one to prescribe it.
976897 tn?1379167602 A cardiologist told me after lots of tests in March 08 that the left side of my heart was a bit 'stiff' and not relaxing as quickly as it normally would. He said this is normal when a CABG has been performed and that was performed 6 months prior to the tests. Another Cardiologist looked at the report and said the problem was well within limits and nothing to worry about. Is this stiffness normal and does it return to normal over time?
392207 tn?1200687184 When you think about the operation and how major it was there are bound to be pains and some pains some time after too but from what I have read here some of you have had severe pains and I am fortunate enough as not to have had them (YET) but it is early days for me. I have had pains yes from the infection but only for weeks and not years as some of you have. Also the vein from the leg is the main vein that feeds the leg and foot with blood.
Avatar m tn My question is - would it be expected or posssible for me to have angina pains after the treatment I have received - what is the possible reason for it?
Avatar f tn I think everyone is different with bypass recovery. I honestly believed I would recover very quickly from mine but it was exactly a year before the chest pains stopped. After 11 months I still couldn't turn over in bed without the pain waking me up. Have you mentioned this discomfort to your cardiologist just to be on the safe side?
Avatar n tn She has pains in her middle abdomen just about everyday,we thought it was IBS but she still have pains even after bowel movements and it continues. During and after eating she sweats especially from her nose area and her heart rate goes up.She has seen and currently seeing a cardiologist for her heart and is on medication, she never had heart problems like this prior and it seems like the heart rate is tied in with the pain and bowel movement.
14489057 tn?1449010642 At first everything seemed to be going good after surgery, but last month I started to have chest pains again (Also I am diabetic and the surgery was the result of my 3rd heart attack, I am 41). I went to the er a couple times over the pain, but they kept telling me it was anxiety. Soon after my last visit, my left leg began to swell, and swell huge, basically double its normal size. I went back to the er a couple weeks ago over it, but they had the attitude of "Not this guy again".
Avatar f tn My mother had continuous breast and chest pain (not cardiac pain) for approximately 9 months after both of her bypass surgeries. She hated taking any prescribed pain medications due to the foggy feeling she'd get, as well as how badly they constipated her. She kept physically busy, as much as she could tolerate, and simply took Ibuprophen for the pain. She is (was) very large breasted, and her cardiologist had told her that women tend to experience more breast pain due to the surgery.
Avatar m tn After 6 months, things really calm down a lot even though most surgeons tell you this will occur at three months. The only pains I suffered after six months were if I turned over in my sleep and that would wake me up. Exactly one year and I could roll across the floor with no pains. I remember many times in my recovery when I felt I was not improving and started wondering if they had put my ribs back crooked or something. It can get depressing. What you are experiencing is not abnormal.
Avatar n tn As best I can recall, those shoulder and back pains are pretty typical following bypass surgery. Something to do with nerves being disturbed, and how they spread open the chest to get working room. They should go away pretty soon. I experienced mild chest pain while exercising (walking) shortly after the surgery too. It turned out to have been more in my head than in my chest. Once I got past dwelling on it and worrying about it, it was gone.
Avatar n tn Pain may also be from gallbladder, pancreas or stomach, in these cases pain would be worse after the meal. Ultrasound is not very accurate to find this. For gallbladder there is a HIDA scan, for the stomach it is gastroscopy, but you should start with the diet, I guess.
Avatar m tn ) My Mom had to be readmitted to the hospital about a month after her bypass because of an arrhythmia. She had chest pains and apparently developed atrial fibrillation and some other irregularities, same as what happened a few days after the surgery while she was still in the hospital and delayed her being discharged to the rehab facility (for strengthening, etc.
Avatar m tn For over a year I was complaining of chest pains and tests kept revealing there was no heart issue. They kept blaming my Stomach, but couldn't come up with a diagnosis of that particular problem. After 18 months, I had my first heart attack. All I can do is give you my first set of symptoms for those 18 months, and see if you can relate to them. If you can, I would certainly demand they do an Angiogram to prove the point one way or another.
Avatar f tn I had a gastric bypass in 2001. After many months and lab work, it has been determined that I have secondary hyperparathyroidism. I have been prescribed 50,000 IU/week of Vit D, as well as a calcium + D supplement. I am also taking 30mg of cymbalta since January, 325 mg of iron (2 tabs/day), multivitamin, acidophilus (gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago). I have been diagnosed with depression and atrial arrythmia (sp?).

Avatar f tn m sick and no one believes me cause my symptoms are sweating, weakness, bad taste in mouth and stomach irritation and newly diagnoses guttate psoriasis. I never feel good anymore but my blood tests are fine. My body is attacking itself. I feel better and then whammo - start feeling really bad again. Think it might be something with my immune system cause of the psoriasis but I'm starting to think it must be my stomach. Had bariatric surgery 12 yrs ago.
