Avatar f tn Also, what are the symptoms of a brain tumor in the cerebellum (back part of the brain)?
Avatar m tn There are actually only 4 stages that are used to describe the advancement of breast cancer. Stage 4 is when the cancer has spread to other organs and/or tissues such as the brain, bone, liver or lungs. It is stated that Stage 4 has a 5 year survival rate of only 16%. Please keep in mind that this varies according to the location of the metastisis. I personally know of survivors of many years with mets to the bone.
8016255 tn?1396293364 My father died of what was told to us of lung cancer, but he had brain cancer, a heart attack, liver cancer, caused by prostate cancer. I'd simply center on keeping the family in comfort unless you think a crime was committed.
1037594 tn?1258562179 Have any of you read the information regarding our life clock being sped up by the Hippocampus of the brain and how the Hippocampus becomes an assasign of sorts causing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and others that I cannot recall at this time. Reading several articles that basically stated the same thing made me think about those poor children that age prematurely and if there was some sort of connection between the two on basic level.
Avatar m tn I think the lung cancer may exclude him from consideration for a liver transplant. That would have to be resolved in some fashion before he would be considered and resolution of lung cancer is a very difficult and unlikely course. I agree with Sir_Osis - he stomach could be drained which would provide a lot of relief from discomfort. There are drugs that are used with a patient with ascites and edema - diuretics. 553878 tn?1226507294 t find anything on the web. No more walking on egg shells. What I need to know is what kind of death is liver disease. Different stages, pain involved, ability to fuction, final days, ect. Apologize to anyone this offends. Doc told me not to think about it, don't worry about that now. I wont to know. Maybe it would be better if answered in a message and not a post or if someone had a link to a page.
Avatar n tn With news like this everyone is scared, and that is fine. Even if you are found to have cancer there are different types of cancer and stages or grades of cancer. A lot of your outcome will depend on the size of the tumor, whether the tumor cells are well differentiated meaning they are slow growing and almost complete in structure or poorly differentiated meaning they are not well organized and grow faster, whether you have positive lymph nodes, perineural invasion, etc.
Avatar n tn the final stages of hepc include cirrhosis of the liver (fluid buildup in abdomen, water on the brain which leads to confusion, bleeding from mouth, sleep alot, flip flop of days and nights, etc) and flare ups of hep c which include temp, open sores, flu like symptoms, itchy skin.Eventually they will fall into a coma. hope this helps. have him evaluated. they can do a liver biospy to determine whether or not his liver is effected.
Avatar n tn So many family members of mine have had cancer. A great aunt dyed from Liver Cancer, another aunt has Breast Cancer, my uncle has Prostate Cancer, my great grandfather dyed from Brain Cancer, and currently my father is fighting Esophageal Cancer and is being checked out for Brain Cancer. After I look at all this, I feel like I am doomed. People tell me all the time that I should be looked at once a year to be sure and it scares me. Am I really likely to get it?
Avatar f tn My cancer doc is concerned that my high calcium levels are indicators of my cancer spreading into my bones. I am having a bone scan on this Thursday coming up. I am usually an upbeat person, but, with my 3 year anniversary coming up this makes me very nervous. Most people live about this long after finding out they have OVCA. Is it common for this type of cancer to go to the bones. Everything I have read doesn't indicate this... it indicates more organ mets.
233915 tn?1218813127 Hi. My stepfather was diagnosed with metastatic brain cancer last October. He has had 15 radiation treatments, and will begin his third round of chemo. Last week he had surgery for an Omnivor Reservoir becuase the cancer is now in his spinal fluid. I'm not sure the true origin of the cancer - or the cancer type because my mom doesn't know, but after his first diagnosis, they found a tumer on his adrenal gland, one in his lung, one in his esophagus, along with 15 lesions in his brain.
1322157 tn?1279656681 It is like a death - the death of your 'normal' life. And then you go through all the stages or mourning: Denial - this can't be my life, there has to be a cure Anger - Why me??!! (or you have anger towards the doctor, the person driving the car who hit you, etc...) Bargaining - I will do ANYTHING to make it better and the pain go away! Depression - Because you realize this is now your life and there is nothing to fix it.

Avatar f tn 8 for the last couple of years, family history of aggressive prostate cancer and other types of cancer) had his annual screening 6 months ago. The doctor suggested doing the new test, the PCA3, because of his family history. It came back at 45. After discussing the results with the doctor and upon my insistence we scheduled another screening in 6 instead of 12 months. We were disappointed to find out that the number jumped from 45 to 59. The doctor suggests now to wait again.
Avatar f tn What is the actual physical failure that causes death from Alzheimer's, and how is the failure caused by the disease? I'm just confused as it was my understanding that Alzheimer's was a disease that only affected cognitive function. I don't know what is meant by Alzheimer's being a "cause" of death.
Avatar n tn 7 Any of these things can lead to the cause of death. Patients with IPF can die from heart failure, respiratory failure, or collapsed lungs.
976897 tn?1379167602 It was several hours before she got to the hospital and was actually considered dead because of her pupils and having no brain activity. They put her onto a bypass machine which gradually warmed her blood and her heart actually started beating again. A few days later she woke up and started her slow recovery. She is now totally normal. This goes against everything believed about death. There was no brain activity at all, yet she kept her memories and all body functions.
Avatar n tn The official stages for breast cancer are Stages 0 through Stage IV, and each stage and subcategory of the stages has clearly defined features. Another breast cancer Website had an article that mentioned Stage V in its title, but not in the article itself. After I pointed out the error to them, they indicated they would make a correction. (They also mentioned that some people "unofficially" talk about Stage V when there is nothing more that can be done except palliative treatment.
192055 tn?1263555537 t went through the 5 stages of death. No matter what everyone who loses someone has to go through these stages..So my advice to you is to get out some pictures and just cry. You need to cry..it really helps. but i am no expert..
Avatar n tn My doctor told me it was due to suppressed grief over the death of my son (he died at 17 years from cancer). She prescribed an antidepressant and sent me to a therapist who did grief counseling. The second one did not happen until 2007, and a third in 2008. It seems with each one my memory gets worse. At times I almost feel dyslexic in my speech and typing. My doctor told me there are "like scratches" on the brain from the TIAs, but nothing can be done about it.
333672 tn?1273792789 I really can't answer your question with any certainty. In my reading I have gotten the impression that healing can occur progressively or in stages over many months to even many years. It depends on how much damage is done to the cell that maintains the integrity of the nerve fiber (axon) coming off of it. This cell is called an Oligodendrocyte. If the cell/nerve complex remains viable then theoretically the healing could occur at any time.
Avatar f tn It is likely that the tumor was from the breast that reached the brain. This is called metastases (when the original cancer spreads and results in other tumors) and also explains the other cysts that she had. Sorry about the loss of your mother. It is very difficult to see someone you love pass away like that.
Avatar f tn s life due to breast cancer is relative .... sometimes it is and sometimes not. With current care death from any type of cancer is rarely painful .... Hospice services are a wonderful thing and these specialists do everything possible to make one's passing a gentle experience. I can't say that "it" looks like anything in particular ...there need not be any type of obvious lesion in most cases as recurrance happens within other organs.
