Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of pristiq in women

pristiq

Avatar f tn What is pristiq? I haven't heard of that one. Effexor sounds like too great a risk for you, if you read about people on it it's extremely hard to get off of and has loads of side effects. The psychiatrists I've seen use it only if all else fails. It's supposed to be even harder to quit than Paxil, and has a lot of complaints about terrible side effects. Why just those two? Also a question: are beta blockers not an option for you?
Avatar f tn Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
Avatar n tn Every drug has potentially dozens of possible side effects- they have to list them all just in case but most people only get one or two at the most. and if depression and anxiety are a huge problem for you, the benefit outweighs the risk. also there are meds out there that you can use to combat nausea. if its becomes a huge problem, call your Dr and tell him the new med is giving you bad nausea and have them give you a RX for it if need be.
606378 tn?1297304964 I had a horrible experience with Pristiq. I would suggest that if you do decide to take it that you become aware of all the possible side effects and if you begin to have any side effects, contact your doctor right away. I took Pristiq for about 3 1/2 weeks. My doctor did not warn me of possible side effects and I didn't read about possible side effects early on. At first, I didn't notice anything unusual. I actually thought the drug might be helping a little.
603543 tn?1255294450 ve been on Pristiq for 2 weeks now and am still in the stages of the WORST side effects. They include: -hot flashes (complete with profuse sweating.. ) -night terrors and really messed up dreams -nausea and virtigo -overall just feeling super tired, especially at around 5pm. I literally just want to go home and go to bed right away most days I am really hoping these side effects go away soon. If they don't, I will be forced to try something else because I just can't live like this!
Avatar n tn I started taking Prozac (40 mg) at age 24 and it helped a bit to be less sad but not with a mixed disorder that includes severe anxiety, obsessive compulsive personality disorder, self sabotage, excess sleep, total lack of concentration and in general lack of interest in life. It´s like having an enemy inside constantly sabotaging your life and making you have negative and obsessive thoughts most of the time. It is exhausting.
Avatar f tn If you're doing well on Effexor, I don't see any reason to switch. I've never been on Pristiq, but side effects when taking PRISTIQ 50 mg may include nausea, dizziness, sweating, constipation, and decreased appetite. In clinical studies of the recommended 50-mg dose, the percentage of people who stopped taking PRISTIQ due to side effects was similar to placebo (sugar pill).
Avatar m tn 4) Considering the awful effects of witdrawl from this medication would you still have taken Pristiq? Describe the way in which you went off this medication. If 50 mg is the lowest dose then how do you taper off this medication? 5) What is a Sand Shake? Is it like a shudder? 6) Could low magnesium increse anxiety and stress? 7) Is the blurred vision all the time, a few minutes a day or just certain parts of the day? Does it ever go away?

Avatar n tn My husband is now taking Pristiq (50mg) and Viibryd(20mg) after many many months of seeing ALOT of psychologists and psychiatrists who prescribed many different medications for him, only suffering the side effects of the pills. Just recently, he was prescribed these two meds and what a difference it made in his total well-being. It really started to work in just one week!!! What a Godsend these pills are!!
Avatar f tn Whenever I would switch medications, there was an adjustment period where I did feel some side effects, but if you know that it is happening it really makes it much easier to handle. Starting, stopping, or switching any medication can cause side effects...not just ADs, SSRIs, but other medications as well. As long as you are doing this under the advise of your doctor, you are doing the right thing, in my experience.
Avatar n tn Desvenlafaxine, (Pristiq) like any of the psychotropic meds, has a great number of possible side effects, but a delay in menstrual cycles is NOT listed in the PDR. If there is no possibility you may be pregnant, the delay in your period is no doubt due to stress relative to the depression. Since you have only been on desvenalafaxine for one week, I'm assuming your prescribing doctor wants you back for a follow up in a few weeks time.
Avatar n tn It is essentially the same as Effexor, which is notoriously hard to withdraw from. My psych said that 50mg of Pristiq=150mg of Effexor. If you jumped from this dose or higher, I would expect to have withdrawal for at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. At least you will probably have depression and anxiety. The brain Zaps and stuff, I hope would go away after a couple or few weeks. I am currently at 50mg and so far, so good, because I tapered. It's hard to come off this stuff.
Avatar m tn I recently switched from Pristiq to Effexor XR in order to taper down. 50mg of Pristiq=150mg of Effexor. I found Pristiq did not cause as much low libido as Effexor has for me. I also didn't gain weight on it. Same might be true for Effexor for me (who knows?). I gained weight on Celexa and felt significantly more blunted emotionally by it.
Avatar n tn thanks but my dr says i have no choice but to stay on pristiq due to the side effects ,because of the anyurisms ,1 of the side effects are head aches which could cause the anyurisms to burst .
Avatar f tn Hello, I must say my doctor is weaning me off of pristiq....which i'm glad it worked good for me for a while but than for me my head hurt all the time and then I never was able to sleep, so she put me on tradozone, I don't know when you take it ..at night it was best for me with a bottle of water. In 3 weeks i'm going to start lexipro I hope that works for me.
6726276 tn?1421126668 m now on Pristiq which is Effexor metabolite. Pristiq is less side effects. Both may work differently. For me, Pristiq work better. Pristiq may also reduce sexual desire but not like Effexor. Also, it work differently from one to another. Google on Pristiq if it available where you live.
Avatar m tn Why did you switch? Pristiq is a more expensive version of effexor, it's a little different in much the same way celexa was turned into lexapro. They just altered the structure some in order to get a new patent and hopefully to have fewer side effects, but over time that usually turns out not to be the case. I ask because if the effexor was working Pristiq is pretty similar, so why switch?
Avatar f tn With prescribed medication one always has to be aware that there will be side effects of the drug. For myself, I try to choose more natural alternatives whenever possible like homeopathic medicines or products one can purchase in a health food store. Even then, I would suggest not just choosing a product from the health food store that you think would be helpful. Some herbal products purchased from the health food store can interfere with other prescribed medications.
Avatar f tn Your general doc is wrong, of course. This is why you see a psychiatrist. And my guess is, if these drugs are working, your problem very well may be depression, especially if wellbutrin worked -- it's one of the most stimulating of the antidepressants which is why it doesn't cause the weight gain that most antidepressants cause.
Avatar f tn Hi guys!! Well my doctor said I was resistant to medication since i've tried effexor and sertraline. I found that while on them, my symptoms got worse. For instance, I have trouble sleeping due to anxiety and it just made that worse. When I stopped taking them and just taking Seroquel, I am able to sleep better than i've ever slept my entire life. (When taking Seroquel with sertraline, I still couldn't sleep and was very irritable).
7650348 tn?1393006631 I had been prescribed Pristiq with a higher dose of alrazolam. I waited for almost 2 years for the side effects and worse panic attack to subside. Increase of alprazoloam he prescribed me 2mg every 8 hours. I never took the full amount, I am honest with my Dr and told him I could only handle .5 in the am .5 in the afternoon and the full dose at bed (when I took the pristiq as well). He uped my dose of pristiq to 75mg cutting a pills n half.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin is an energizing antidepressant that can increase anxiety and actually cause panic attacks in some people. Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.
