Avatar n tn am, Tamoxifen is a drug that blocks the action of the hormone estrogen. Side effects of this drug may include : nausea, hot flashes, weight gain or headache. (http://www.medicinenet.com/tamoxifen-oral/article.htm) FEMARA (letrozole tablets) is approved for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer.
1340383 tn?1309990914 I was on Clomid but asked my RE about Letrozole because I have a friend who got pregnant twice on second round of IUI with Letrozole. RE said it was merely doctor preference. My RE has higher success rates with clomid so that's what he prescribes, but his partner in the same clinic uses Letrozole almost exclusively. I'm sure that wasn't very helpful... but thought I'd share.

Avatar m tn Hi, All aromatase inhibitors may cause side effects, but some people can better tolerate the side effects of these drugs, while others cannot.Check with your Doctor/Oncologist if another similar drug might be better suited for you if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome when using Letrozole (Brand name Femara). Please check the link below for more information concerning the side effects. http://www.drugs.com/sfx/letrozole-side-effects.

Avatar n tn ) it has fewer side effects than clomid for most people - no thining of your uterine lining like clomid, and it doesnt' dry up cervical mucus like clomid either.. i've personally never taken clomid, but they say that people have fewer hot flashes while on femara too.... we took femara 2.5mg once a day for two cycles, then upped it to 5mg once a day in combination with follistim and IUI's and got our BFP.. unfortunately miscarried but i will be starting that combo again tonight!
Avatar f tn unsuccessfully and like you , had horrible side effects including a thin lining.. I did do a Letrozole a.k.a Femara cycle and though wasn't pregnant..I definitely felt much better than with Clomid....and I have heard a lot of people get success with femara when clomid doesn't work for them!
Avatar f tn hi there! I am also starting Letrozole (also known as Femara) next cycle onwards...had two failed Clomid cycles..so the Dr now wants to try Letrozole.. till now I have only heard good things about it..so hoping this does the trick..
Avatar f tn I have had no side effects so far from the drugs, and the lining and follicles were all great, so I was told. I am now just on the 2ww now hoping this could be the month. Good Luck and LOTS of Baby Dust!!
1626928 tn?1378850167 5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
Avatar f tn i have had no side effects from it besides being really moody and irritable, my husband said i turned my moods every second. i took a month break and waiting to find out if im preg, but if not next month back on the femara, but my hubby loves me this way better, he said im much happier this month while being off of it. id love to hear any success stories about femara, though the only thing ive heard is one girl got preg while on femara and doing an IUI at the sametime, she now has a daughter.
691236 tn?1311199974 I did 2 rounds of Clomid and this cycle I switched over to Femara (exact same thing as letrozole). I didn't have the mood swings this cycle. Also it doesn't have the side effects that Clomid does of drying up CM and thining your lining. So far I am just as pleased with it as Clomid. I'm 10DPO, so we'll be finding out soon enough if it did the trick.
Avatar n tn In the adjuvant setting, commonly reported side effects are generally mild to moderate. Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness. Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. Joint pain was experienced more often with Femara versus tamoxifen. ref: http://www.femara.com/home.jsp?
Avatar f tn Femara works on a different hormone then Clomid and is not suppose to have any of those side effects. I did 4 cycles of Clomid on the lowest dosage and 1 of Femara on the lowest dosage. The Clomid did dry up what little CM I did have and made me a little moody. I didn't notice any of that with the Femara.
Avatar m tn My doctor has decided I only take letrozole every other day because of my side effects and osteoporosis. I hope this amount will still keep the cancer away. Any suggestions on someone taking it every other day.
Avatar f tn I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and have been offered a trial on Letrozole before and after surgery along with radiotherapy. I would appreciate knowing any side effects when taken along with Lithium and mood swings suffered if any.
Avatar f tn You may wish to consider this option. Of course, this medication has its own set of side effects. While the side effects of letrozole are generally milder than those of Tamoxifen (less hot flashes, vomiting and vaginal dryness), this drug can cause more significant osteoporosis than Tamoxifen. Practicing QiGong is a good thing, since it's going to keep your body's energy levels up.
Avatar n tn I tried clomid as well a couple of years ago, with very similar side effects as you describe. The fertility specialist I am seeing now put me on Letrozole. Letrozole is actually a drug used for women with breast cancer. One of the 'side effects' is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid.
1108951 tn?1258618690 t thin your uterine lining and dry out cervical mucus. also - there are far less side effects than on clomid. it's hard to tell when you will ovulate. its a good idea to start taking opks on cd 8. if i take femara cd 3 - 7 i usually ovulate around cd 12 or 13. if i take it cd 5 - 9 then its usually around cd 15 or 16. good luck!
1030058 tn?1252253572 I have now nearly completed 5 years of Arimidex, My Oncologist ir recommending that in October I change to Femara secondary to a clinical trial which has concluded that I am at some risk of the cancer still recurring. I am unsure about this as the side effects of the arimidex hot flashes, weight gain etc causing me to be on a high dose of Effexor are quite debilitating at times. What are my risks if I choose to just stop the Arimidex and not continue with a change to Femara...
1434731 tn?1382722384 being nauseous the whole cycle, hot flashes, mood swings, thin uterine lining, bad AF cramps and bad ovulation pain... glad I switched to Letrozole (a.k.a. Femara)...did not have any side effects at all!
Avatar m tn now my doc has put me on letrozole....as this is an anticancer drug it worries me and as side effects i has birth defects in babies.i dont know if i should take it or not???and wht if its does not work.
Avatar n tn I am 63 and just diagnosed with Stage 1, ER/PR Positive, node negative invasive ductal carcinoma. My oncologist is in the process of deciding whether to prescribe Letrozole/Femara or Anastrozole/Arimidex. What considerations factor into which of these two drugs to use? Has anyone had experience with either of them? How serious are the side effects?
Avatar n tn Just before i found out i was pregnant my doctor had prescribed me letrozole femara which I didnt end up needing to take. Unfortunately, because I was so overwhelmed with grief over the miscarriage and could not think rationally, I decided to take the letrozole counting the bleeding from the d&c as a period in which i used from day 2 throught to day 6. As mentioned, it has now been 3 weeks 4days since the d&c and today I had a positive pregnancy test.
749784 tn?1233499310 If 3 out of 4 docs say do chemo, that would be the deciding factor for me. The side effects are no fun but tolerable for most women. Chemo would likely give her the best chance at a longer life.
