Common Questions and Answers about Severe menstrual cramps in your 40's

menstrual-cycle

Avatar f tn m 40 years old, and judging by my older sisters and mother, I likely have another 11-12 years before menopause. Over the last year or two, my menstrual cramps have gotten much worse. I get chills and shakes, aches in my joints, nausea, headache, and massive cramps. I've tried heating pads, lots of fluids, bed rest, Aleve, and other OTC pain relief. I went to see a new midwife for my last annual about 18 mo ago and forgot to mention it to her, then felt embarrassed to call in about it.
Avatar f tn The pain in your vaginal may be the baby on your cervix, I know I definitely get that and have to kind of walk hunched over and slowly stretch upward for him to move, and depends how severe your cramps are, some light cramping is pretty common but if it's like menstrual cramps I would call and see what they say. I've been having the same issues for a month if not more and I'm now 36 weeks. Everyone's different so if you're concerned it won't hurt to call and ask about it.
Avatar f tn First of all let me say I am deeply sorry for this and I am telling you how sorry I am because I know that people do not really understand what a person with severe menstrual cramps goes through. They see it as "oh...its just your period? well that's a normal part of life" and it is not very nice. I have the same issue as you are outlining and I have had it for years. I am no medical expert so I do not want put any fear in you because each person and their body is different.
7634325 tn?1394333404 I'm 9 weeks pregnant and have severe cramps similar to those of menstrual cramps. Is this normal? We tried to have sex and it was hurting even more during. Please help.
Avatar n tn I was overdue for a gyn exam (busy mother and business owner). During the summer I started with severe low back pain, severe menstrual cramps, heavy periods bouts of constipation and said its time to take care of myself. They found a 10cm ovarian cyst. Now I do have a big belly but if you saw my grandmother and mother you would say "that's just how they are built" and they never had ovarian cysts. Grandma lived to her 90's with all her parts.
421469 tn?1203452328 I had that but mine was because I was two days away from af and for some reason after ovo the menstrual cycle cramps are stronger. Hopefully your case is different but hang in there and heating pad will do wonders.
Avatar f tn Today, on Friday, March 24th, 2023, the regular lower-left back muscle spasms have returned. I no longer feel spasms on the right side, though the sharp, aching pain from the left side radiates over the spine to the right side when the pain is severe.
Avatar f tn Baby hopes is right, cramping is normal but severe cramps (worse them menstrual) with or without bleeding is something you need to speak to you doctor about. just to be on the safe side!
Avatar f tn HI. How long has the cyst been there? When cysts are discovered the doctors will normally observe it for up to 3 months to see if it disappears itself, which a lot of cysts can. If it is causing severe pain, not resolving, or if it is suspicious in any way the cyst may be removed or drained. Most ovarian cysts are harmless.
Avatar n tn *Severe* cramping isn't normal during pregnancg.. I have horrendous menstrual cramps but I've never cramped at all when I'm pregnant. It would be worth calling your dr and seeing if they want you to come in.
Avatar f tn ve been feeling some mild cramping. The feeling is similar to dull cramps before your menstrual cycle or the dull cramp when you have to go to the restroom to poop. I'm unsure if it's normal. It isn't hurting it's just bothering me because I'm worried that it's not normal. Please help.
Avatar n tn These cramps usually begin earlier in the menstrual cycle and last longer than common menstrual cramps.
Avatar f tn I am almost 5 weeks pregnant. I have been having cramps that feel like menstrual cramps. I don't have any spotting or anything but it feels like menstrual cramps.. should I be worried? I'm 18 and this is my first pregnancy.
Avatar m tn Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after. I was reading "Lilalee" 's post and what she said about her problem with nexium and her symptoms are very similar to my girlfriends. I am open for any suggestions.
1395422 tn?1308016251 Risk Factors ***Most things that put you at risk for painful periods are out of your control. You are more likely to have severe menstrual cramps if they run in your family history and/or you had an early puberty (eleven years old or younger). Anatomically (physical make-up of the body) speaking, a backwards tilting of the uterus (a retroverted uterus) and/or a very narrow cervical canal can also play a role. Some things you do have some control over, at least partially.
Avatar n tn Hi, There's a long list of issues that can cause abdominal cramps without the presence of a menstrual period, for example: a late or irregular period, pregnancy, stress, indigestion or digestive disorders, an illness, or endometriosis, etc...Menstrual cramps are caused by the uterus contracting when it expels it's lining. For many women cramps can happen 3 to 5 days before a period begins, and also during a period.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 5 weeks pregnant and have been having cramps a week and a half now. They haven't been too bad, just feels like my normal menstrual cramps, but last night I woke up with cramps that lasted for about 10-15 minutes and they were so bad I couldn't walk, I felt like I was going to throw up and sweating. I managed to get myself in to the tub and let the shower spay me. There is no blood. But I am scared there might be something wrong. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Yes! I had some pretty uncomfortable cramps like menstrual cramps but a little worse and id wake up at night from them. The best thing I found is a warm shower helped. Rocking side to side. Helped me alot. I thought something was wrong too until I went for my first ultrasound and saw bubbys heartbeat! I still get cramps here and their but they are very common.
Avatar f tn Not as heavy as my regular cycle but definitely not spotting. I have been getting cramps all day... not as bad a menstrual cramps but definite pains. My regular cycle isn't expected until 11/20. Could I be pregnant? I haven't ever heard of implantation bleeding until now. Most of the descriptions are light and spotty.....Am I experiencing a miscarriage? I hope not....
Avatar f tn Omg I'm right there with you I'm 40+5 I so wanted her to be a Leo not a Virgo! I go in Monday for my second induction and possible c section if it fails. Smh these babies don't want to come out!

620048 tn?1358018235 I was dealing with pains like this and still am after several tests. Is your pain similar to menstrual cramps? If so it could very well be bladder spasms! I was shocked to find this out but I am now under the care of a urologist and she has me on meds to alleviate the pain. However, when my MS flares, the meds don't help much.
