I immediately started to gain weight. And stopped the Seroquel immediately (mid Dec). I know this is one of the side effects. I gained about 5lbs. Being 5'9" and weighing 135, I felt the 5 extra pounds would come off with eating better and a few more yoga classes . But the weight kept coming. I got down to a dietary intake of about 1000 cals. But that mad no difference.

My Doctor just switch my medication from 150 mg of Effexor XR to 400 mg of Seroquel XR. I dropped my dosage of Effexor gradually but I still experienced terrible withdrawl. Now I am experiencing bad side effects, " I'm guessing ths", from the Seroquel. I have gained weight in my stomach area very rapidly, I have pain and stiffness in my legs, 24 hour dry mouth and sinuses and I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.

I've been on Depakote and Seroquel for bipolar and not improving much, so today the doc took the depakote away and is starting me on Lamictal. Can anyone share your experiences with it? He told me it should not give me the weight gain or fatigue, and the only thing I need to watch for is if a rash develops on my body to let him know immediately, as it could be serious enough to land me in the hospital. Other than that, does the lamictal really have relatively few side effects?

After I have been awake for a while they have slowly went away I am still a tiny bit dizzy, and drowsy still after 2 cups of coffee I just feel like I am not waking up still feel half asleep. Does anyone know if these side effects are serious or if it is something that will go away as I get use to the medication. Everyone reacts to medication differently. A medication that might work for me might be disastrous for you. You might have started at too high of a dose or increased your dose too fast, you might be on too high of a dose for your body or it might just simply be the wrong medication for you. I would inform your doctor of these side effects right away if you haven't done so already.

My 34 year old son is taking 150 mg imipramine, 6 (1mg) Clonozapam, and 400mg Seroquel, (down from 600 mg) per day. His side effects are weakness, irregular heartbeat and eye problems. One of his eyes has gotten so bad that he may have to get a cornea transplant. I cannot say for sure if the meds caused his eye problems, but he had perfect vision all during school and according to my research seroquel has been know to cause lens problems in the eyes.

If the side effects listed freak you out, look up all the side effects for a medicine you take on a regular basis, like tylenol or ibuprofen, to give you some perspective. And some side effects go away after a few weeks. TL;DR--if you have BP II or depression is your worst enemy, try the Lamictal first.

I took it at one time but did not have that bad of a reaction to it at first. Most of the side effects went away after a few weeks at any rate but the rash is not something you should wait out, tell your doctor immediately.

These type of side effects are often worse in the beginning but often improve over time. Make sure to inform your psychiatrist about this and they can tell you how to proceed. Part of it may be the interactions between the various medications. Are they in the process of transferring you from one medication to another? Lamictal requires a very slow titration rate but only a psychiatrist would understand the clinical specifics and how they apply.

I used to take regular Seroquel with no sexual side effects. I was recently changed to Seroquel XR and the side effects are so different than regular Seroquel, and one of them is sexual side effects. I started on Abilify for my Bi Polar 2 weeks ago. After 2 days I had to halve the dose, as the side effects were so debilatating (?), but the side effects are still horrendous. Ok so I told my psychiatrist everything that came to my mind yesterday, so most of what's been troubling and how my episodes have been and how long they've been lasting and how severe they are or aren't. She said it sounded like I had rapid cycling, asked me how my low and high I was getting and just kept repeating that they get "severe". I thought I was getting better so surprise surprise for me!

I have found that many only consider the benefits of the medications and not the side effects!

Yes I had some of those side effects (sometimes called "flu like withdrawal symptoms") even when I titrated off Seroquel to another medication under psychiatric supervision. This definitely would occur discontinuing it all at once. In time they would pass but this should be done under medical supervision and whatever they are treating will return with more intensity than before due to the sudden discontinuation.

Prior to deciding to embark on a medication regimen with Seroquel, please read over the entire prescribing information, as well as speak with your physician regarding side-effects. While not as common as the other side-effects I listed above, involuntary jaw movements can occur causing chipped teeth. Best of luck in your decision.
