seroquel dosage weight gain

I thought I remember a while back someone posted that they were doing OK on Lamictal but when the doc increased the dosage, the person started having anxiety attacks. Is that true? I recently went up to 200mg/day and I've started having anxiety and now wondering if I should ask the doc to decrease the dosage. He also discontinued the Seroquel but now I'm having major depressive episodes.

Does anyone know if this medication will cause weight gain,as so many of the meds do..I will be taking my 4th pill of 25 mg tonight.......................any info at all on this med would be helpful............also im on klonopin and 1/2 of a 25 mg seroquel(as needed for sleep) I dont think i like how the seroquel makes me feel.............the dr said lamictal should help my depression...........

m so sorry to hear about the problem with weight gain. I also need Seroquel to sleep decently (have been an insomniac since childhood), and it would be the perfect medication for insomnia if not for the weight gain problem. To make things worse, a few years ago I was also on Abilify. I was fat and happy for a while there. When the doctor changed & took me off the Abilify, I was astonished that I lost about 20 pounds without changing anything.

Yes Seroquel like all currently available antipsychotics can cause weight gain and the potential of diabetes. I did gain weight on Seroquel as I did with other antipsychotics. You could ask your doctor about a specific diet that would help you cut back sugar and carbohydrates and help reduce weight and regular exercise is essential as well.

My first experience with Abilify was an abnormal one (so please do not take this too seriously, as it seems I was an exception), since it threw me into a manic state; however, my Psychiatrist has come to the conclusion that I'm just wired completely different. After being weaned off the stuff for about a week, my Psychiatrist put me back on it, but a fourth of what I was taking.

I didnt know serequel cause weight gain. no wonder I gain so much weight. Im on geodon and serequel. Glad to be off geodon. Dr will put me on topamax soon/ serequel 200mg at bedtime really helps me sleep. Is there anything else helps sleep that wont cause weight gain? Is 200mg a high dose of serequel?

Hello what is your diagnosis if you don't mind me asking? I am on Seroquel XR 300mg aswell as Depakote for Bipolar Disorder. I do know that seroquel is used for depression also. Before I was diagnosed they said I had major depressive disorder with pyschotic features and was given Bipolar type meds.. I wonder if this is the case for you..just wondering?

I was never told that Geodon would help me lose weight but I have heard that it has a chance of lower weight gain than other medications. I have been on Geodon for about 4 years. I like it for the most part other than I keep having bladder infections and I have been told that Geodon could be the culprit. I wish you the best on your med transitions.

re worried about weight gain, the AAPs are actually usually the worst offenders, although some people never gain weight on them. Depakote is the only anticonvulsant that really tends to cause weight gain. The others are weight neutral or even might make you lose weight. Abilify is generally weight neutral, by the way. At the 75 mg dose, I think the Seroquel is no longer doing its antidepressant job, and it may be making you more sedated because of the antihistamine effect at low doses.

I have never taken Seroquel because of the weight gain issues but I have heard it will make you sleep. I take Lamictal and have good success with it. The Lamictal does make me somewhat tired but I take it with other meds that do knock me out. Lamictal is a mood stabilizer and not a antiphycotic like Seroquel. You may want to do some research on Lamictal and Abilify. Sorry I can't help you anymore than I have, perhaps someone else on this site can give you a better answer.

Has anyone in here experienced an extreme amount of weight gain when on Seroquel XR? I was overweight before but it seemed like I really can't keep a hold on my weight. It just keeps climbing. Help!!

I take Seroquel xr and Lithium. The Seroquel xr for about two and a half months. The Lithium for over ten years. The Lithium, I do not believe it causes weight gain. Seroquel xr, yes. It, so far is the best antipsychotic I have ever taken, we'll see as the time goes on. I gained about fifteen pounds at first on Seroquel xr! I cut out most colas, I never have been a snacker. It does not make me crave food or sugar, it just adds weight.

s not the actual pill that makes you gain weight but there IS an increase of appetite so the weight gain is completely manageable. You just need will power and a refrigerator full of fruits and veggies to snack on and NOT junk food ;) Good luck jimgreg! Seroquel is actually a very good med if you can get past the side effects.

Seroquel like all atypical antipsychotics has the potential of weight gain although each person responds differently to each medication. The other side effects you mentioned are most probably temporary and should go away in time. However you should definitely discuss all this with your psychiatrist.

Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. If there is a change in voice (Voice becomes dusky), weight gain, intolerance to cold etc. You need to get your T3, t4 and TSH level checked as it may be in initial phase.

Hello. Unfortunately, weight gain is a side effect of many meds including some antidepressants and anti-anxiety/antipsychotic drugs. As previously stated, you should talk to your therapist about other options, and always ask about side effects as some are much worse- some can have permanent or even life threatening effects.

I had some problem with weight gain from Seroquel and especially Risperdal. Abilify is less likely to do that but from what you say the Seroquel is tolerable except for the weight gain. Complex. It is important to keep the weight gain in check so I'd suggest having your psychiatrist refer you to a nutrionist and definitely get a test (at least once a year) for blood sugar levels and the like (on any antipsychotic).

Yes I did gain weight on lithium. That is relatively common although each person responds differently to each medication. Weight gain can occur on Seroquel as with all atypical antipsychotics. Sleep apnea can occur for a variety of reasons but weight gain can be associated with it. Perhaps your psychiatrist could adjust or change your medications as needed. You could discuss that with them and see what might be of help.

I am bipolar I with mixed episodes. (Also with rapid cycling :) fun stuff...) Has anyone tried any medicines that didn't cause weight gain and didn't cost a fortune. I am on Abilify right now but I am very quickly going to have to change because my insurance isn't that great and it cost me $100. I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time.

The most common side effects are dry mouth, drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, high blood sugar, weakness, constipation, abdominal pain, sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing, sore throat, weight gain, abnormal liver tests, upset stomach, and sluggishness. Sounds kinda nasty to me.....

Hello, I take Lithium and Seroquel . The Seroquel increase's appetite and weight gain but i have no issue's with Lithium except dry mouth and dehydration sometime's ,so i drink lot's of water . It's a mood stabilizer and work's well for me and you need regular blood test's so your Lithium levels are not too high .

I specifically stated to my doctor that when I said I needed to go on meds that I do NOT want anything which will cause more weight gain. And he put me on Seroquel. I've been on a week and now wondering if I should stop immediately as I see here everyone says that it causes weight gain. I'm so pissed off. My doc took me off Seroquel because he said it can cause weight gain. I would ask your doc which drug is causing it. When weight gain is fast & sudden, my G.I. doctor said the #1 cause is medication. But Lithium can cause your thyroid to get out of whack and you can gain weight if it's sluggish. You may want to have the thyriod funtion checked as well. If the thyroid is OK.
