1559533 tn?1308948561 Yes, anti-seizure medications (Tegretol, Gabapentin, Lyrica, etc) are used to treat neuropathic pain (things like Trigeminal Neuralgia or Dysthesias.) They can also be used to treat seizure disorders. They did not seem to effect my diagnosis. They did not effect my neuro exams, MRI, VEP, LP, etc.
Avatar f tn The pain appears to get worse following seizure events. He has be having a run of CPS recently and the pain is becomming intollerable for him. No one can tell us why he is having so much pain or what is causing it therefore nothing is done for it. I have tried drugs like brufen and panadol and panadeine. He claims these do nothing and refuses to take them for that reason. I need to stop his pain somehow.
Avatar m tn Hi there, i had a brain injury in feb and havent had any seizures yet but i was told in order to get back to driving/work etc i might have to take an anti-seizure medication. 382218 tn?1341181487 - nabilone - sativex These are just a few of the multiple medications your doctor may use for neuropathic pain. Unfortunately because of the rules in this forum I cannot comment on all the off-label medications which we use, but suffice it to say there are many more and they usually fall under the categories of anti-seizure medications and antidepressants. I do not use cannibinoids, nor do I personally recommend them.

1316053 tn?1279509497 Thanks for your advice. After going to the doctor yesterday, I got on the nett last night and looked up taking the 2 together, and it warned not to, and about Seratonin syndrome and seizures..... My partner and I got so worried and scared we both decided I was not going to take the Cymbalta.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, I am 20 and was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 18 and was put on Depakote then taken off due to weight gain and put on Topamax, which is what I'm currently taking. Just recently I had a new diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and was put on Folic Acid and Keppra. So now I'm taking three medications.
Avatar n tn If so, there are 5 different types of surgery. There are also medications -- mostly anti-seizure medications normally used for epilepsy -- that are used to control the pain. Problem with the drugs is, they can cause other problems (kidney/liver) and regular blood tests are necessary. A facial pain specialist is the best doctor to seek out or a neurologist. I suggest a facial pain specialist first because all they do is treat people with TN. Best of luck finding a pain solution!
Avatar n tn Other factors may also be contributory such as stress or certain triggers like food, weather, hormones, or medications. Have this evaluated further by your neurologist for proper management. Pain medications may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn 3 weeks ago, after a prolonged seizure, my 16-month old daughter came into a deep sedation status. After the anti-seizure medications were reduced or even stopped, she did not wake up. As of today, she is still in a deep sedation (or light coma) mode. She is responding to pain by withdrawing her legs or arms, and her eyes do move from side to side when they are open. However, she has no reaction to stimulus such as light, sound, moving objects, etc.
Avatar f tn Also, an EEG has to establish if a true seizure is present. Medications, metabolic and hormonal imbalance , nutrient and mineral deficiencies may present with seizure and headaches. Considering previous surgeries and intake of these medications, it is best to discuss this with your physician prescribers.
1402028 tn?1280858335 Until 4 months ago, I had never had a medical problem aside from the normal flu, chicken pox, or cold. In March I had a seizure and was rushed to the ER. I had never had one before and ever since I have been experiencing horrible heachaches and sensetivitiy to light and other things. I have been seeing a neurologist, who has tried 2 different medicines. I know it is a long process, but it is really putting my life on hold.
1178983 tn?1279663655 Options for treatment include both medications and physical therapy. Medications include Analgesics, Antidepressants, and Anti-seizure medications. Each of these classes have been associated with relieving the pain associated with fibromyalgia but are not side-effect free and you should have a discussion with your physician to see if an alternative choice is right for you.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a first time pregnant mom to be at 35 and I have some complex med problems that require maintenance meds. I'm epileptic with a small brain tumor and taking Lamotrigine, which I know isn't great for the baby. But I'm low dose (200 mgs a day) and a seizure will most likely cause more injury to the baby than stopping. I also have an anxiety disorder and chronic pain due to a failed knee surgery a few years ago.
Avatar f tn Keppra or levetiracetam is indicated for seizure and sometimes used to treat neuropathic pain. The exact mechanism in treating epilepsy is actually unknown but the drug is known to bind to a synaptic vesicle protein which is believed to impede nerve conduction across synapses. Diagnostic tests such as EEG may be normal especially if it was done after the seizure episode. It is important that you take your medications regularly and as prescribed.
Avatar n tn They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia. The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it. Pain management, like football, is a game of inches.
Avatar f tn Anyone have luck with other pain medications other than Percoset for nerve pain?
Avatar m tn Just over a week ago i took a seizure, i have no memory of it happening but was described to me as being like an epileptic fit by my friend that witnessed it. I take effexor and serouquel both of which state seizures can be a sideffect i have been on these for a few months and thought if it was going to happen it would have happened before now. Has anyone ever had a similar type of seizure caused by meds?
Avatar m tn Lastly, there are other medications that can interact with tramadol and make a seizure more likely. If she is taking other medications along with the tramdol, consider visiting www.****.com and go to their drug interaction checker. Enter all of her medications including the tramadol and print out the results and bring it to the ER physician and her prescribing physician for a discussion. Good luck and I hope that she doesn't have any more seizures.
1045176 tn?1253403447 some people take the same seizure medication for chronic pain, because it helps with chronic pain for some reason. Now, it seems like putting yourself at risk for getting one of the most painful experiences ever, kidney stones, wouldn't be worth taking this seizure medication if you are already in chronic pain... but, many people who suffer chronic pain cannot work, or do anything but scream all day... many end up committing suicide because they cannot stand being tortured all day.
12182312 tn?1427683956 If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.".
Avatar f tn Evening primrose oil may lower the seizure threshold and use is contraindicated in patients with seizure disorders, schizophrenia, or individuals receiving anti-seizure or anti-psychotic medications. Therefore, before using this herbal supplement for hair loss I would consult your doctor to see if it is appropriate or if they can recommend something else due to you taking Seroquel (which is classified as an anti-psychotic agent).
Avatar f tn The pain and vomiting could be due to gastritis. This could be due to the anti-seizure medications. The symptoms could be the side effects of the medications. Discuss your symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
