Generally (it states this on the package insert) anti-psychotics are used with caution in people that are elderly so his psychiatrist is probably seeing whether he absolutely needs it or not. Of course if any psychotic symptoms return if a medication is adjusted or discontinued bring it to the psychiatrist's attention.

Are you having issues with it? The adhd is getting better? That's the right direction. But you are saying you are getting MORE hyperactive. When do yo next see your psychiatrist? I would tell them this to see if this is a dosing issue or a wrong fit regimen. It's hard to get things 'perfect' but we are looking for improvement. Not a backslide.
My 9 yr old grandson has a seizure disorder that may be linked to autism. He is on Depakot & Risperdal. The main problem is his inability to realize when he needs to use the toilet, resulting in having bowel movements. He can sit forever until someone notices the odor. It doesn't bother him & his doctors don't seem too concerned. Could the medication w or w/o the disorders have anything to do w/this problem. Or, is it some other reason?
t had any Vicodin for months now. However, the Risperdal seems to make me feel fatigued and not wanting to do anything. I could do without it I think...
We have used Risperdal with our 12 year old son in the past, 2nd and 3rd grade, but due to weight gain he had to be taken off it. We had major problems with sleep so when he went off the meds he went back to not sleeping. Then we found Melatonin, it is a god sent. It is a natural supplement that has helped a lot of children with atuism and other disorders that effect sleeping. As for the agression we have tried behavioral programs that help with it.

I had to learn the hard way about the psych meds so if I can help anyone out there NOT to use them in the case of PANDAS I will share my story. Behaviors get worse and worse with these meds and the docs keep going up on doses which makes it that much harder to wean your child off. Remember even if there are no PANDAS docs in your area drive hours or take a plane and get your child correctly diagnosed. It is life changing. Good luck!

I read that someone can go through meth psychosis when quitting and re-starting. She gets extremely angry, depressed, and paranoid. The doctor started her on risperdal 1mg-day, 1mg-night.
My son just recently started taking risperdal. I am discovering that good help is very difficult to find. He is currently taking 1.5 mg a day. Last night he could not sleep at all and was afraid because he said the medication made him feel tired but his thoughts are still racing and he can't sleep. I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.
She is lucky to have you concerned and involved in her health care. So many elderly have no one involved or concerned.

I've been on antipsychotics (Risperdal, Stelazine) for 3 months and after it my testicles (in fact, penis too) have shrunk considerably. I also have a decreased sperm count and low testesterone levels, muscle loss and increased body fat. Is it reversible? How can I treat it? It's been 2 months already.
It should not to be used as a sleeping aid and should only be used under supervision of a Psychiatrist.For sleeping one could use something like Trazodone,Ambien or Rozerem.
If I were you I'd ask about the safety profile of the use of Risperdal in pregnancy now instead of later. Your OB can easily look that up. It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away.
