Generally (it states this on the package insert) anti-psychotics are used with caution in people that are elderly so his psychiatrist is probably seeing whether he absolutely needs it or not. Of course if any psychotic symptoms return if a medication is adjusted or discontinued bring it to the psychiatrist's attention.

But maybe in Canada this drug is used differently than in the USA.

I had a stroke caused by the medication risperdal. My dr. was very negligent in giving it to me. She took me off the meds that were woking cold turkey which is a no-no as well. 1mg clonapin 3 times a day to none overnight. This alone is dangerous but to then prescibe me ridsperdal on top of that is attempted manslaughter. If I had the money I would sue them. Has anyone else had a stroke due to risperdal? It has been 6 months and I am recovering.

But you are saying you are getting MORE hyperactive. When do yo next see your psychiatrist? I would tell them this to see if this is a dosing issue or a wrong fit regimen. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage. My question is, is this reversible once he discontinues Risperdal?

I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I just started Invegra 3mg daily which is the new drug in lieu of Risperdal so I will be curious as to how it works. Supposedly, it is just like Risperdal but much more tolerated with less side effects. She is taking a low dose of Oxazepam at night, a low dose of Risperdal at night and also two low doses of Effexor XR - one in the morning and one in the evening. Like I said the risperdal was a lqst resort. He will be 4 in Sept. and his dose is .25mg cut in half with one half in AM and one half in the night. Since starting 3 days ago the past 2 mornings he has had huge unbelievable tantrums (which isnt out of character generally speaking). Usually mornings are a great time of day for him and I kn ow he isnt tired because since adding the risredal he has slept all night for the first time ever (I think).

I took respirdal a while ago for perceptual distortions. It was helpful for them but it made me feel way too slow. I was not even taking that much. But I'm not schizophrenic so that's probably why. I didn't experience those side effects you were describing. I was really tired all the time though. I never slept so good in my life. One time I had dystonia from taking compazine for about 3 days. I woke up and felt stiff at first.

He still gets shor tempered on the risperdal and tenex and prozac. We have upped all the amounts except the risperdal is still at 2 mg a day. He was much better in the beginning. He takes 3 mg of tenex, 2 mg of risperdal and 10 mg of prozac. He still is impulsive and gets into arguments. It seems to be an ongoing problem to adjust his meds. We see the psychaitrist monthly. He has been on other meds and they either made him worse or stopped working.

I tell you what, there's no way in hell that the crap in risperdal / risperidone left my body in 5 days! It took about 8 months of hardcore cardio exercise for me to purge this poison from my system. I would sweat so much after I tapered off of this, and it would smell like putrid chemicals, and definitely not something that would ever come from a human being.. Please NEVER take this stuff unless you want to be chemically lobotomized..

I was put on Risperdal 1/2 mg in sept 13 08,recently (last week stopped it ) had to me slighty taper,Im wondering if yoou really neeed to taper,Im not bipolar I have depression and anxiety and was put on Risperdal for racing thoughts,Does any one or has anyone ever just stopped Risperdal without tapering,,my pharmisist said its not nesa sarry byt i dont realy know for sure,i think sometimes he just tells me what he thinks i want to hear,,,,THanks

How in the world would risperdal help someone that has anxiety alrdy and then stopped using opiates and got double anxiety help.

I take 40mg citalopram (generic version of celexa) and 225 mg Venlafaxine (for effexor) each day, then went to 5mg saphris in am and bedtime. I wondered about using Risperdal hoping not to have the same side effects. My husband is really concerned as are my closest friends.

The neurologist put him on risperdal. I just read horrible side effects, like breasts on boys. Is there a more " beginner" drug? Since we see a neurologist instead of child psychologist, I am fearful he doesn't know as much about behavioral medications. Sorry so long.
