risperdal

559509 tn?1216180446 Does anyone out there take Risperdal for Bipolar Disorder? I don't see hardly any mention of it around this site. Does it make you gain weight like Depakote? Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania).
2010625 tn?1329372056 I eventually got diagnosed with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), and later with Bipolar Disorder. The only thing that made it go away was the Risperdal they put me on. Unfortunately I had to go off of it because it raised my prolactin (the hormone that makes women lactate and can also stop a womans period) level sky high. So now that I am not on it anymore the nervousness and irritability is coming back.
1515545 tn?1291395764 Lithium is commonly used to treat Bipolar disorder, and Risperidal for general mood or personality disorders. Feel free to ask your psychiatrist more about the medications you are taking, you're entitled to know.
Avatar f tn He was diagnosed with bipolar and then also with ADHD he takes risperdal for bipolar and adderall for adhd. The adderall has been wonderful it really helped a lot the risperdal i am not so sure as he still gets very angry and aggressive he has also been recently diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.
Avatar m tn Risperidal is a medication prescibed specificaly for bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, both of these conditions have been proven to be negatively affected by smoking cannabis. I would strongly advice you against such course of action and guide you to talk to your doctor/psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn how can we managed a child wtih bi polar disorder? is it right to give him some medicines like risperdal quicklet? This discussion is related to Does my son have ADHD.
Avatar n tn As you might now, there are currently 3 widely accepted forms of bipolar disorder, that is, bipolar type I, bipolar type II, and cyclothymia. However, a spectrum view of bipolar disorder is becoming popular. For example, you can picture a line with unipolar depression (major depression only) at point A, and with full blown bipolar type I at the end of the line, point B. If a person has major depression only, then they will fall close to point A on the line.
Avatar n tn The only way to be diagnosed is to see a psychiatrist and be assessed. There are many drugs used to treat bipolar disorder. Some are Seroquel, Abilify, Lithium, and Risperdal, though there are many more. Depression is just being down and sometimes having a normal time between periods of depression. Bipolar disorder has depressive episodes but also hypomanic or manic episodes. I would suggest going to NAMI.org for more information.
7087196 tn?1389306119 Well, Celexia is an antidepressant and is usually used for depression. Risperdal, of course, is an anti-psychotic used for Bipolar. Guanfacine has multilple uses with anxiety and ADHD being the main ones. However, it "May not help attention (ADHD) as much as stimulants." It seems like he is mainly being treated for Bipolar and not ADHD. Oh, and the fact that Ritalin did not help you really has very little to do with him.
Avatar m tn So they keep putting me on risperdal all the time, and when I take this stupid thing I keep hallucinating and seeing things in strange green color. So I stop taking it, and I stop hallucinating and I'm able to keep off of it, but I keep getting depressed and they keep on saying that I'm bipolar, partially because my mom keeps on lying to them. Other antipsychotics make me so and unable to keep focused as well, they make me loose all emotions and I hate taking them. How do I solve this?
Avatar f tn I just weaned myself off risperdal and lamictal and I have terrible insomnia. Maybe it's just coincidental because I'm 51 and probably perimenopausal but it is impossible for me to get a good night's sleep without Ambien. It takes 1 1/2 hours to fall asleep and I toss and turn all night. I was diagnosed last summer with bipolar type II and I began to doubt the diagnosis and I realized that my psych had me overmedicated...
Avatar f tn It is interesting that they started him on Risperdal instead of a stimulant med. Risperdal is a great med for bipolar - especially dysphoric manias and/or mixed states instead of euphoric manias. So I am guessing that early on they might have been having trouble figuring out if he had Bipolar or ADHD? At any rate, that is a tough combination for a child to have - and perhaps even harder on the parent. The problem is that both areas need to be treated.
Avatar m tn Your friend might have a drug indused bipolar disorder versus a biological one. I was born bipolar and had symptoms all of my life until properly diagnosed and have never been that into drugs or alcohol. It was mostly recreational for me and only pot with some light drinking. Anyhow, her best solution would be to get into a treatment program and get off of all of the drugs in order to get a clean system and address the issue of how to be properly medicated for her bipolar illness.
Avatar n tn I only heard of it happening once to another person in my partial hospitalization group many years ago. I had a dissociative episode one time, but it was more like depersonalization. Your experience sounds like the dissociative amnesia that that other person had. He lost time. For myself, I only had it once. It was a long time ago, and I can't really remember the circumstances. I believe it lasted for 2 hours but I couldn't really say. I just didn't have a sense of time.
Avatar f tn This is hard isnt it to se your son feeling like this my sympathys are with you, ask your prescribing Doctor if once he is weaned off the resperdal , if you can try leaving him without meds, a lot of caring parents are now trying using food supplements to help their children, and it has been noted that a Multiple Vitamin with B Complex and Vitamin C and also Fish oil is benificial to children, if you google this there is a lot of information and look at the thread on this forum that starts &quo
Avatar m tn Hi. I am 23 and was diagnosed bipolar when I was 18 or 19 I can't remember. Right now im taking welbutrin, risperdal, ativan, seroquel, and lamictal. The problem I have is a strange feeling in my head that moves around. It goes away when I place my hands on my head and i'm wondering if it's a symptom of bipolar.
Avatar n tn I think you made some good points but its important to remember having a child or young person with a mental illness should not be seen as a tragedy or burden.
Avatar n tn Proate 500 ---- Proate is used as an anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing drug, primarily in the treatment of epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and, less commonly, major depression. It is also used to treat migraine headaches and schizophrenia. Zosert 50------ Zosert is a selective serotonin reputate inhibitor. It's used for depression, anxiety, ocd, panic. Sizodon 2 is an atypical antipsychotic. Risperdal is the name in my country.
Avatar n tn I was taking risperdal for 6 month (4MG) and stopped "cold turkey" as the doctor suggested. now for 2 month i am having insomnia. can not sleep more then 3 hours per night. What can i do and how long should it take to get my normal sleep? how long the insomnia last?
Avatar f tn So I graduated in 2006 and was on Zoloft but not doing well so I went to a shrink that I paid for. She did an assessment on me and concluded I was bipolar and because I was bipolar that could be a big reason why the ssri drugs did not really work. So she put me on Depakote and gave me a low dose of klodopin so I could wean off the benzos. In 2 days time after taking the Depakote, all my anxiety and panic went away! It was a miracle for me. I felt normal again like I used to feel.
4565515 tn?1373411085 I recently started taking a higher dose of respiridol than I had been for the past few years. I went from 2 to 2.5 to 3 in about a months time. The switch to 3mg was about two weeks ago and for the past three days I've been nauseous and dizzy, my psychiatrist says any medication can cause those symptoms, I'm just wondering why it took two weeks for me to get the symptoms. Could I have something else going on with my body?
Avatar n tn I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.
Avatar n tn My 3 year old son has been diagnosed with ODD and has been put on risperdal but he is still very violent towards my 11 month old daughter, myself and my mum. He hits, pushes, bites and he also sits on my daughter pusher, pulls her hair and sometimes bangs her head into things. I am at my wits end not knowing what to do.
Avatar n tn I think it is a good medicine for PTSD and it helps with bipolar. It didn't work for me, however, but my brother takes it and it works for him.
1625195 tn?1332178662 I don't know about the law-suit. The correct term for the relationship between Celexa and Citalopram is not that the Citalopram is a "substitute". It is the "generic" version. Technically, they are the same. One is just usually cheaper to get than the other. "Celexa" is a name brand produced by a particular drug company. Risperidone is the generic form of Risperdal. Risperdal is classified as an anti-psychotic. It's also used as a mood stabilizer.
1499921 tn?1308446605 My brother still takes it to this day. Abilify made it hard for me to control my weight and motivation. I was thought to have bipolar disorder however since I have been away from my adoptive mom I have had no symptoms of mental illness. I think the first couple of weeks you are on it you are great. However, after that first month you’re less in a state of control. At that point I seem to see that true benefit of the drug is in effect. Abilify is less helpful after the first month.
