Common Questions and Answers about Risperdal for panic disorder

Avatar n tn I looked up the medication she is taking on the internet and was shocked at what i found. Risperdal- is a medication for treating schizophrenia and psychotic disorders. Benztropine- anti-Parkinsons, also used to combat side effects of anti-psychotic medications. Wellbutrin- used to treat major depression, bipolar depression (i dont know what that is), treat chronic fatigue and ease cocaine cravings. I havn't confronted her about this because i dont know enough about it.
Avatar m tn this went on for nearly 3 months. i have been up to 4 mg while on the tablets. Either the risperdal, or the bipolar has flattened my emotions.I get no pleasure out of life anymore. Avatar n tn I take an antipyscotic...Risperdal. The drug is given to me for a mood stabilizer. I do not have hallucinations or delusions. I have issues with sudden outbreaks of anger..they come on really fast and the Risperdal helps this. I have experienced rapid cylcling with the introduction of Celexa to my Effexor but it is not all the time. Antidepressants are know to cause mania in some people w/bipolar. My depression has to be treated w/anitdepressants.
Avatar n tn The first thing any psychiatric facility should be doing is screening for endocrine disorders. Once you rule out endocrine disorder, then a psychiatric diagnosis can be made. I have personal experience and research experience to back this up. I spent a full week in the psychiatric ward. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Voices - delusions, panic attacks- the full Monte. Luckily, my parents called in a psychiatrist who was aware I had thyroid disease.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Seroquel for a long time. I was trying to switch over to Risperdal to get up to 6mg. so that I could receive the injectible form of it because I am too dissociative with so much stress in my life and suffering from severe depression for so long...I am bipolar type mixed...this is that I become manic and depressed at the same time, which is not something I can ever wrap my mind around.

Avatar n tn Patricia, You have several questions regarding your daughters condition-cerbral palsy with related depression and cognitive impairment. It also appears that she also experienced some side effects from Risperdal-akathisia. I can not diagnose or discuss your daughters case without a more comprehensive history but, recommend that you discuss these issues further with your daughters psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn Only after I was hospitalized in April 2001 and spent 6 months there, did I come to realize that I had been self-medicating myself all those years and what my real problem was was a series of mental disorders to include bipolar I, anxiety disorder, panic attacks and PTSD. Since then I haven't had a drink, although at times I did have the urge. Those urges most often occured when I didn't think my other medications.
Avatar m tn They don't work on a developmental delay but are for psychiatric issues such as depression, ocd, social anxiety, anxiety and panic. Risperdal is a HEAVY duty drug that came out to treat schizophrenia. They've started using it in other ways for children at low doses but make no doubt about it---- this is a drug to be careful of. It is an antipsychotic by nature. I think the main complaint is that it has an initial affect and then peters out.
Avatar n tn In 1999, I underwent back surgery and was left with chronic back pain, for which I was prescribed OxyContin. OxyContin caused acute pancreatitis, and I was switched to Hydrocodone, which I took regularly for four years. In 2000, I started to feel severe depression and insomnia. In 2002, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and was given Zyprexa. Zyprexa helped somewhat, but triggered diabetes and seemed to lose effectiveness after the first month or so.

Avatar n tn I have had a swallowing pain for the last few months and there is also a small lump on the front of my neck just under the skin. the lump has been there for several months and the ENT i saw said it was probably just a lymph node. I had a CT scan done with contrast and it didn't show anything. I don't have any difficulty swallowing and actually don't have any pain when swallowing food its usually when i swallow with a dry mouth or just swallowing saliva.
Avatar f tn The only reason I found out is that after 3 years of being on and off drugs I started getting strange looks I felt paranoid like something was being hidden from me and things started to not make sense I realized everything for a long time had not made sense. I recorded myself and heard me whispering my thoughts out loud. Not a single person told me. Later finding I was "funny".
1211508 tn?1343083205 I am an agoraphobic/anxiety guy with panic disorder. A few times a year, often at night, while sitting and relaxing, watching TV or on the PC I will just, out of the blue get this split second almost blackout like feeling...kinda like someone pulled the plug on me then plugged it back in. I never have lost consciousness but it feels like I'm very close to losing it. I have no idea if that's related to my anxiety or not as it seems to happen when my heart is chilled out.
Avatar n tn how do you diagnose bipolar? Is there bloodwork that can be done for it? Where can I find info on what drugs there are for bipolar? what is the difference between bipolar and depression?
Avatar n tn I took the risperdal 6 hours ago and felt like stoned,a little bit something like depersonalization and at some moments my heart beats very hard and feel like vomiting. Is this a proper treatment for this kind of disorder or should I change doctor ?? Althought I took zyprexa I also didn't have any kind of psychosis or paranoia. Are anxiolytics (not nesecary bezos) a better treatment? Is risperdal a good medicine or a not very good one? Does it have withdrawal symptoms??
Avatar n tn The medications you mentioned Prozac and Effexor are used for a number of disorders including depression, panic disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder, I am not aware of Repidol, you may be referencing Risperdal, which is used for psychotic symptoms (delusions, false beliefs, hallucinations). Without many details, it appears your son may be suffering from a form of depression.

Avatar f tn I have been on 50 mg of Zoloft for about 5 years. I started it after suffering panic attacks and depression for years. I'm 36 years old. I just had my second child in Sept. after the birth of my first child in 2010 I suffered PPD and postpartum thyroiditis. It was then diagnosed Hashimotos. I was hyper then hypo. During all of this I tried a few other SSRI's with no luck and went back to my regular 50 mg dose of Zoloft. Cut to 4 months postpartum after my second child. Same ZOLOFT dose.
Avatar n tn ' At that point, my parents had realized that her illness was much more deep-rooted and needed professional treatment. She was prescribed to take about 6mmg of Risperdal for psychosis, and a minimal dosage of Paxil (which was soon completely dropped). Although recovery was very gradual, within a few months, she was back on track. She enrolled in a community college, + began working to support herself, although she remained the shy, timid person she always was.
Avatar m tn I have bipolar/panic disorder and every time I took seroquel I had a massive panic attack, ate a lot, then slept for 12+ hours. The longest I have ever slept on seroquel is 72 hours straight... it will knock you out. It also makes you feel sluggish and lethargic throughout the day... not even my Dexedrine helped. I've tried ambien, trazodone, and risperdal for sleep but the best medicine I've found is klonopin.

Avatar n tn I have just been diagnosed as bipolar after years of being diagnosed with major depression with psychotic features. I am taking 1 mg of Risperdal daily and Effexor. For the last month during the night prior to being fully awake, I have been aware of smelling something. I don't remember what it smelled like, but have had this happen a number of times. I am wondering if this could be olfactory hallucinations? Would you please tell me what olfactory hallucinations are like?
420308 tn?1203044862 I was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder about 10 years ago. During those 10 years I was prescribed a number of different combinations of medications like Risperdal, Trazadone, Paxil, Trileptal, Klonopin, Geodon, to name a few. Some of those combinations had horrible side effects and never really relieved my anxiety or depression. Now I'm on 112.5mg of Effexor ER, 200mg of Lamictal, 60 mg of Buspar, 1200 mg of Neurontin, 600mg of Seroquel and .
Avatar f tn Having symptoms of untreated mental illness is not a good option. I take Risperdal for mood stability and was okayed by a fetal medicine specialist to continue while pregnant. Talk with your drs about the best course of action. There is stuff you can take.
Avatar m tn If the criteria have been met at one time for Tourette's disorder or for chronic motor or vocal tic disorder, transient tic disorder may not be diagnosed. Chronic motor or vocal tic disorder is characterized by either motor tics or vocal tics, but not both. The tics occur many times a day nearly every day, or intermittently for a period of more than one year. During that time, the patient is never without symptoms for more than three consecutive months.
Avatar m tn I take Zoloft and Pristiq and Risperdal for my Panic Disorder and MDD. I think Zoloft is awesome. For me, it really helps. If I'm ever "in a slump" or having a cumulative time of greater than normal anxiety issues, my psychiatrist may up my doseage a little for a specified time and it seems to knock it right out. Then after some therapy and time, we bring it back down. Works like a charm. My favorite day is about day 2 or 3 when suddenly I just feel that Zoloft kick in.
Avatar n tn I was misdiagnosed with panic disorder five years ago and given Paxil, which drove me completely manic. Since I started taking depakote and xanax together, my life has changed positively. I also had a bout with the flu and after that, two days of wisdom tooth pain. Immediately after that I started to feel what I am feeling now. Cordially, Alvin J. Figueroa, Ph.D.
