hi, i wish I could tell u if rantindine stops working. but I was just diagnosed today of having GERD. and that is the med my Dr. gave me. I have had Shortness of breath, tight chest, constantly clearing my throat, but not much comes up. This had been going on for like 4 months for me and I finally went to the DR. and HE said gerd.. I always thought Gerd was more like heartburn, or food coming up in your throat. And I also thought it was mostly in over weight persons.
I have been through hell with health issues in the past year, and I've been getting much worse this past week. Had a lot of nausea going on and got prescribed Zantac (ranitidine). Took my first dose the night before last, was feeling a little better yesterday afternoon, then in the evening I ate a baked sweet potato and felt bloated, crampy, and tight all over my back and abdomen. I was also feeling lightheaded and weak while I was having these feelings.
Well Nexium is a Proton Pump Inhibitor and Ranitidine is a H2- receptor antagonist, which means they doe the same job but at different parts of the process. There is no huge risks, but why spend money on both drugs when the Dr could simply increase the dose of one?
t been on ranitidine long, i recently swapped from omeprazole which did nothing for me to ranitidine, so im still giving it some time before i rule out whether its working or not (although so far im not feeling much difference) I didn't realise that food intolerances may not come up in blood work, thanks for that information! seeing an actual gi doctor will be my next step.
For over a month now I have been suffering from stomach pain, nausea, a bit of gas and bloating, and food tasting really weird/gross. I've been taking prescribed antacids for it and lots of generic tums. A similar thing like this occurred a month ago, however, my stomach only hurt when I touched the very lower portion of it then. Today my stomach hurts when I touch it mostly in the middle and when I don't touch it. The pain feels like the inside of my stomach is just raw.
Any supplements that I can take to help? Ive been living with this for years and just finally after many docotrs found out whats going on. No one around me really seems to take it seriously and think its all in my head even after a confirmed blood test. Im 31 years old and feel pretty much alone and lost.
I am 47, female, with history of heart disease and diabetes Type II. Have had acid reflux for a couple years, controlled fairly effectively with protonix. However, for the past 9 months it's gotten severe, daily, and symptoms are after I eat something, worse in evenings. Have had H-pylori, upper GI, endoscopy--nothing significant. Ultrasound of thyroid too. Nothing works, have tried omeprazole, famotidine, reglan, antacids, ranitidine, and others.
I have the lump in throat feeling, too. I am scheduled for my first endoscopy next month. I have had GERD for many years. I had bad experiences with the PPI's and Zantac (Ranitidine) isn't the least bit helpful. I am careful with my diet, but I still get this feeling in my throat and the pain right below the sternum. I rarely get heartburn from my foods any more, because I am watching very carefully what I eat.
You could try some OTC acid reflux meds to start with. I would suggest something with ranitidine or omeprazole. You can take both of them. omeprazole should be taken early in the day to mid afternoon and the ranitidine works best at night.
If these don't work, ask your doctor for spirometry or methocholine chalenge. If they do work, you should ask your dr for an endoscope to check for lessions in the esopagus because of the long time you have had the symptoms.

Chances are also that you have esophageal reflux (GERD), where the food in your stomach is thrown up into your food pipe or esophagus. Another possibility is hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm. Both can cause a discomfort in the chest area, burning, heaviness etc. Irritation of the left diaphragm due to acidity causing stomach distension or due to the hernia can cause hiccups. Fatty food, alcohol etc too can cause hiccups.
ve been paranoid ever since I learned that Ranitidine had been recalled due to a link to cancer. Is a 2 month dose of Ranitidine something to worry about?
A month and a week ago (March 3rd) I took alka seltzer but I took it without water by mistake. I started with a burning stomach and pain when passing food. I went to the ER that weekend and the doctor gave me Pepcid because he thought I had Gastritis. It helped a bit but my abdominal pain,bloating,heartburn, food feeling stuck at night, and belching continued.

my Rx is Nexium40 before meal 30mins to an hour at am and pm(twice a day) with Domperidone10 as i have had throwing up and nausea.Domperidone is taken 3 times daily before meak 30 mins.but Nexium brought lots of side effects for me.so the specialist switched it with Protonix20 same administer.after several days i have had it for 40mg.twice a day.i raised my bedhead 3"; now to 4".i still suffer from acidity erosion up to my mouth.i feel i have no life.
In 2000 I developed a duodenal ulcer that was diagnosed and treated with Ranitidine. I was scoped twice and told I had a Hiatus hernia but no H pylori. It took years to fix and finally after overdosing on Antacids it went away in 2005. I became dangerously B12 deficient because I took high doses of Ranitidine for too long. I stopped the Antacids all together and my B12 returned to normal. After stopping antacids and fixing the B12 I started to develop a problem with swallowing.
I've been horribly sick the past week since I drank a tall glass of lemonade, with horrible chest pain and stomach ache that left me unable to walk or sometimes even move at all, for seven days now. I tried every antacid under the sun but nothing was helping.
I’ve taken omeprazole, carafate and ranitidine but it doesn’t seem to help. I know I need to do an endoscopy and I had one scheduled but I had no one to take me because honestly I’m alone in all of this, my family isn’t very supportive and I have no one to drive me 40 mins to the GI for the endoscopy. I was hoping someone could help.
15 it took its last breathe with urination and little stool passed with tongue jutting out half with clenched teeth and it left us forever. Not able to understand what went wrong. Why the vets failed to diagnose exact problem..why in a span of six days from the state of absolutely being healthy it deteriorate drastically and finally on sixth day it passed away .
