2006603 tn?1331332927 Ranitidine is just the generic form of Zantac and I am on the same thing, also 150mg, and it is considered safe during pregnancy. I believe my doctor said it was like a Class B (for pregnancy) which is one of the safer things to use, anything below Class A or B is considered a little less safe, if I understood him correctly lol. Hope it helps you, I know it's helped me with my acid reflux.
Avatar n tn The EMTs evaluated me and told me I should be okay and to take Benadryl gelcaps. However, I've been wary of taking anything during the pregnancy, and my pharmacist and my medical insurance's nurse helpline both told me NOT to take Benadryl-- it is harmful to the baby. I wanted to pass this information along because I saw others talking about taking it. I'm sure that a topical cream would be fine, but not anything that would be ingested.
Avatar n tn Now I am concerned that my pregnancy hives is caused by one of the natural hormones oestrogen or progesterone as the levels of these increase during pregnancy I have been told. I think these hormones are also in the contraceptive pill. Does anyone have any experience of this? I am concerned it will get worse as the hormone levels increase.
Avatar n tn Nevertheless, several recently published studies in humans have confirmed animal studies that ranitidine (Zantac) used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease is safe during pregnancy. The 1998 Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR) still lists ranitidine (Zantac) as a category B drug, which means that not enough studies have been done to recommend widespread use without a clear indication. Antacids are also considered safe during pregnancy. I hope you find this information helpful.

Avatar n tn that ranitidine (Zantac) is safe during pregnancy in a dose of 150 mg taken twice daily. Obviously it is best, if possible, to : minimize the use of any medicine during pregnancy, but if your symptoms are particularly troublesome you could try ranitidine. Thank you so much for your help. I went out today and bought some Zantac 75, but looking at the active ingredient it lists "84 mg ranitidine hydrochloride", and states it's equivalent to 75 mgs of ranitidine.

Avatar n tn The worst attack I ever had was with my first pregnancy, when I was sick for weeks, was unable to eat, and lost 10 pounds during my 1st trimester. Now I'm 8 weeks pregnant and gastritis has struck again. I am experiencing upper abdominal pain, a feeling of fullness/bloating yet hunger at the same time, my upper abdomen and throat are very sensitive to the touch (the slightest pressure will make me gag), I've been vomiting and have again begun to lose weight.
589816 tn?1332980371 I actually take anti-inflammatory meds all the time and NSAIDS are pretty safe during pregnancy. I have to continue taking mine during pregnancy. Ironically, I received Indocin to stop pre-term labor at 17 weeks. It was a miracle drug for my pre-term labor, so I hope it works well for our symptoms. I wish you all the best. Let me know if you have other questions.
Avatar n tn Ranitidine (Zantac) is not uncommonly used during pregnancy, as are antacids (such as Tums, etc). Usually your doctor gives you a list of common OTC medications they prefer you to use when you begin your prenatal care. If yours didn't, you can quickly call and ask the nurse. Sometimes the pharmacist can help you out with recommendations, too. Don't try to drink milk to calm your heartburn; plain old water is the best thing.
Avatar m tn You're doing the right thing by going to an ENT doctor. I went and he took a look down into my throat and said it was very irritated. I too felt like my tongue and throat was on fire and felt like I was breathing menthol. I told the nurse at my primary doctors about breathing menthol and all she did was laugh at me. I am betting you need the Omeprazole dosage upped. I was taking 40 mg. a day and they upped it to 40 mg. 2x a day.
