Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
Avatar m tn ve had a constant dull pain in my head in addition to frequent and consistent migraines (classic without aura) my entire life (including childhood). I also hallucinate frequently (not due to a psychotic break or Schizophrenia etc according to a variety of psychiatrists).
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
Avatar f tn i am taking anti-psychotic medications which seem to exacerbate my symptoms (they have neurological side effects). However, when i was a small child i had problems with pacing, sitting on the ground and pushing and rocking back and forth, and sitting on my butt and bouncing on the bed to the point that i broke beds and couches until recently. i have also had a habit of hand-clenching and have hurt my wrists several times from doing it.
1714202 tn?1352672419 I really can't top GoPens66 response xcept to add Abilify is an anti-psychotic,Ativan is benzo...nice RX for BIG blackout and possible cardiac arrest!
970581 tn?1248407961 She has had a huge psychotic break and is really struggling. She does not know her family right now and it is tearing us up. We only wanted her to get off opiates and so did she. She was very mentally strong and loving 3 weeks ago and now she is a mess. Any advice?
Avatar m tn im in university so alot of partying goes on and sometimes i do tend to drink alot while on my medications...i have never felt alcohol interfering with their effect on me,when i take the medications i function perfectly when i stop even for one day my head is messed up again.....the maximum effect on me when i drank alcohol and took my mdeications has been low sex drive, once or twice vomitting and sometimes very slight pain in the head...but all these do happen when u drink alot...
Avatar m tn It seems to be a strong pain medication - but if it is chronic pain or pain from cancer then it is indicated. There are non-narcotic applications you can try--accupuncture/massage/meditation, etc. You don't say what your pain is from so it is hard to say. Blessings to you, though. Keep your chin up.
Avatar f tn Evening primrose oil may lower the seizure threshold and use is contraindicated in patients with seizure disorders, schizophrenia, or individuals receiving anti-seizure or anti-psychotic medications. Therefore, before using this herbal supplement for hair loss I would consult your doctor to see if it is appropriate or if they can recommend something else due to you taking Seroquel (which is classified as an anti-psychotic agent).
Avatar n tn m sorry about your son and I hope he gets better soon. Sometimes something can tip off a psychotic break and even though that chemical is not longer there it takes a while to come back from it. Also, the marijuana may have been laced with another chemical he didn't know about. Typically its amphetimines or cocaine that are more likely to cause psychosis.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
605458 tn?1539228808 And/or just an Other, because some people take medications like the antipsychotic Seroquel for inducing sleep when a person has a mood disorder.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I applaud you for taking a break from the meds to evaluate your pain levels. Most people are too frightened of increased pain to even try. Taking a break also helps with tolerance issues so I congratulate you on your efforts! There is no shame in coming to the conclusion that you need a long acting medication so that you can live a more functional and productive life. After all, isn't that the goal of pain management in the first place?
Avatar f tn He gave me latuda. First week on it I had a psychotic breakdown. I said **** it and stopped taking all my medications. I feel much better now. Rarely ever have hallucinations, mood swings are still there thought not as bad, delusions are still there but I use several coping skills and it helps. Do any of you have schizophrenia/schizoaffective and not use medication? How do you cope?
Avatar m tn s verry difficult. Without telling you what to do, try not pushing medications right now. It will make her further hate them. I have the same diagnosis among anxiety. You should have her committed if she's a danger to anyone especially herself. Please don't give up. Things can get better. Be her support and love her. Be her mother but don't be pushy. We can't force people to do what's best for them. We can only be their support and guide them.
Avatar m tn Risperdal is an anti-psychotic but that's a subclinical dose so perhaps your psychiatrist prescribed it for panic attacks but I haven't heard of it for that use though it may have some effects. There is no particular interaction between the two medications. If it helps then see what happens. At that small dose there shouldn't be many problems and at any dose those two medications can be used together safely.
Avatar f tn I also occasionally hallucinate even when my medications are under control. Even with a constant anti-psychotic. This does not bother me because it feels like a different trip. It's like i'm on acid or mushrooms which I have done more times than you would believe. When I lay down at night, I can feel and see sounds. It sends an electrical shock through me when I hear something. The sounds are different colors depending on the pitch. I need to ask my pdoc about this.
603015 tn?1329862973 Yes of course like anything else. Before I recovered I would know things were not going well. I would not of course know the specifics. I would then speak to my psychiatrist. But if someone is completely psychotic they lose track of reality completely. As well a person's awareness they that have a psychiatric disability can be completely lost. I did once before I recovered stop medication and of course have to sign myself into the psychiatric hospital.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I also want to ask if certain types of medications can cause it, or help it along? I was never in this horrible pain until I tried a bunch of different antipsychotics. Body aches was a side effect of a couple different ones I tried. I got off of them and immediately the pain went away, I thought that was it, that I was finally done with the body pain. I was off of them for two months pain free, then I start rapid cycling (bipolar), and had an anxiety episode, and during it the pain came back.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I've been on seroquel for quite some time. We had to upgrade it a little when I had a psychotic break of two months. My question is is it normal to not feel anything? I'm unhappy but my unhappiness is just a sort of tenderness in the backround. I am severely withdrawn from people. I feel like Ive lost my humanity. I go through the motions of laughing, smiling, being pleseant (when absolutely needed) but I dont feel any of it.
1965148 tn?1354978634 I think that bipolar disorder can be with or without psychotic features. Since you seem to be having some psychosis then I would say you have it with. I think they have to observe you over time to get an acurate diagnosis. Therefor you would have to meet the diagnostic creiteria outlined in the DSM IV to recieve a diagnosis.
