Hi I am a 30 year old male. I am on Meds for panic disorder/social anxiety disorder and depression. I'm on a bit of a cocktail, Wellbutrin, Klonopin, Prozac,Propanol, a goal of my MD and mine is to make the cocktail smaller. I am fortunate to have a great doc who actually does 45minute sessions. He listens and wants to know what is going on in the patients life, wants the patients input on Meds. He is not a drive thru doc like I hear about and have experienced who sees 4 patients an hour.

While I am not currently on Prozac, I did take it years ago and it worked very well for me. I took klonopin, a different benzo, without a problem as well. I'm not sure what side effects you were having that you are trying to avoid. I currently take Wellbutrin. It has not made me gain weight and it has not affected my sex life like so many of the other anti-depressants. Just a thought in case you need to go down the road of another med. Take care.

Yes, the Prozac can make him hyper. Our child took Prozac at the same age as your son and she, too, did not do well on it. It did help her anxiety but seemed to take away her "filter" for saying or doing appropriate things. Our doctor then placed her on Effexor - which worked well but today she is on Celexa (citalopram is the generic term) and this seems to be the best "fit" for her.

It worked very well, but I also took xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. However, for the first two weeks or so, the prozac made my anxiety much worse. I toughed it out, and it did its thing. So nardil is a great medication for social anxiety disorder, however I'm too afraid to take it in pill form because of the dietary restrictions it imposes. I was wondering if I can get a pharmacist to convert my pill prescription into an injectable dosage so that the medication bypasses my gut.

I took Lexapro for 10 years. Always in the morning. It worked very well for my anxiety.

Beta blockers have been prescribed for anxiety for a long time. As someone above mentioned, they are especially effective in social anxiety situations...ie before speaking in front of a large group, etc. In that scenario, a person takes one about 30 min-1 hour before the event. A regular dosing of these types of meds (Inderal is one that is commonly Rxed) can also be very useful in combatting anxiety on a daily basis.

Ive had social anxiety disorder for over 6 months but finally went to the doctor last week to be diagnosed and put on meds-the doctor put me on PROZAC 20mg daily, im on them a week now but feeling slightly worse the past few days,even slightly depressed. im just wondering will these feelings surpass eventully? as my doctor said it can take at least 2 weeks for them to settle. can anyone please help me as this is ruining my life. also is therapy a good solution for anxiety?

I currently take Klonopin for the panic disorder, but was just prsecribed Prozac to help with my general anxiety. I have tried other SSRIs like Lexapro, but always had terrible dise effects. Has anyone had a good/bad experience with Prozac? What is the SSRI that typically produces the mildest side effects? I'm getting really tired of constantly switching meds, Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!

I have depression and agoriphobia (a social anxiety disorder) also. I am off all meds. It is not easy but you have to do what is best for baby. I am in a hospital therapy course right now to help. If you ask your doctor, they might be able to suggest some form of therapy to help.

Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).

ive had it for like a year or two and i had symptoms of social anxiety for acouple of years but i was shy or actualy i had social anxiety but it wasn't as bad as it is right now. i dunno, okay well lets get to the point. is there a way to get over social anxiety.. even just a little bit. to the point where you can go do what you need to do but still feel alittle scared?

I've been diagnosed - by a psychiatrist - with Social Anxiety Disorder. I've been taking Lexapro for almost 2 months - started on 10 mg and the dosage was up to 20 mg two weeks ago. Also, for the last 3 months I've been speaking every week or two with a licensed professional counselor. My main problem is associating with people that are close to my age range, I'm 26.

As far as evidence goes, the only problem this has been shown to help with are those with heart palpitations that are real and not imagined and those with social anxiety. Prozac isn't the best antidepressant for anxiety because it tends to be stimulating, so I'm guessing your main problem is anxiety. Only trying this drug will tell you if it will work, but it certainly was never approved for this purpose. It does help some. It doesn't appear to help most.

I have a 13 yo son diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, mild depression, and OCD. He was put on prozac 1 1/2 years ago, starting at 10 mg. It helped a little, so eventually it was increased to 20 mg. In January, it was increased to 30 mg, but it seemed like the anxiety fears were more on the upswing, and the OCD wasn't as much under control. I suffer from mild anxiety, panic and social phobia, Prozac worked great all those years and now symptoms are coming back. even more severe than before. I fear that any SSRI that I take will give me the same side effects, am taking klonopin when needed for sleep and panic. I heard LYRICA, inicialy prescribed for Fibromalgia is realy helpfull for anxiety, but It is not FDA approved yet in us but Europe is using it with success for years. My doc mentioned this med to me but still did not made decision if I shoul try it or not. I started taking Magnesium Taurate 3 days ago, so far not much of a difference but I will let you know!!!!

I recently got off Vicodin on January 2nd. It became addictive. I've been on Xanax for 10 years and I am tapering. I'm taking 1-1/2 mg. per day and I started taking Prozac at 10 mg. per day a week ago. I am experiencing racing thoughts, discomfort with my heart beating, clammy, smoky taste in my mouth after sleeping, horrible Anxiety buzz (Which begins with the racing thoughts), sore temple, tightness in head.

(He never had ADHD by the way, just ADD, he never had the hyperactivity) He is 31 years old now, 10 years since he was diagnosed with Attention Defecit Disorder with Anxiety Disorder. He still takes his Ritalin every day, but is going to be weaned off them after he finishes University........he is just going into his third year of an engineering degree, and is doing a Masters due to his First grades in every unit. Im so proud of him and hes come so far.
