Propranolol vs xanax

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol vs xanax

inderal

Avatar n tn I switched to the klonipin on friday and already I feel better than with the xanax- I feel much more even throughout the day. Also- I am taking Propranolol, 60 mg- started it 3 weeks ago, and no change yet- however, I don't know how much the ups and downs of the xanax contributed to that. How long does one need to stay on propranolol- until the symptoms subside?
Avatar f tn Hi there. Usually, the docs will prescribe Inderal more as a daily medication for anxiety prevention. I did have a friend who was prescribed it on an "as needed" basis for presentations just as you describe. Her dose was 10 mg. That is a pretty low, standard "starting" dose. The nice thing about a beta blocker like Inderal vs a benzo, like Ativan or Xanax, is you don't get that sedated, drowsy feeling (most of the time for most people anyway).
Avatar f tn How long does withdrawal from beta blockers usually last? I don't have any money to refill my propranolol prescription and haven't had it in 4 months. I was taking it for arrhythmias and high BP (160mg XR propranolol with 180mg XR diltiazam daily) and when I ran out 4 months ago I just kept taking the Dilt. hoping the symptoms were just withdrawals and that they would go away... Symptoms are what you would think, I'm just curious if to someone with similar conditions (i.
Avatar f tn Sometimes doctors will only prescribe the beta blocker (propranolol) or the xanax or lorazepam for just before the performance or public speaking. My guess is that you do so much of it that he feels that you would be better off with it in your system so that if you are in a sticky situation the medication will do the job and help you through. Don't be surprised if at first you feel a little tired or drowsy when you start taking the propranolol, this will go away in a couple of days.
Avatar n tn If you are not taking the propranolol daily you could always try the xanax alone prior to the presentation and see how it affects you, but if you are taking the propranolol daily I think it would be best to space the medication and take them separately. As with any meds you could always contact your physicians office and speak with the nurse and determine what would be the best option for you. Good luck on your presentation and try to remain as a calm as possible!
Avatar f tn Like I will be sitting or at rest and get up and it will just race. Usually I chew on a Xanax or Propranolol and that gets it under control somewhat but it's still scary. Last week it happened I was sitting on the couch and I got up and my heart went from like 80bm to probably around 150bpm in a few seconds. I took a half Xanax and Propranolol and it helped a bit but ever since I've been having these unpredictable symptoms. My question is, is this something new?
Avatar m tn Hi im have been taking Xanax for over a year. I uset to be a methadone attic for 3 years before hand (before that a herion attic). Atfer I got off methadone i was 100% clean for about 7 months but when i found a way to get somthing for my anxiety on a regular basis without doctors (wich never went away after the methadone) i went ahead and did so reguardless of knowing exactly what i was doing i was desperate for my anxiety to go away.
Avatar n tn The doctor game me Propranolol and Xanax. Yes, the first time it happened was when I smoked it, but since then it's happened even though I haven't been smoking. I even tried a different strain, before I quit, that was meant to help with anxiety and relaxation.
Avatar f tn also was given 10 pills of ativan 0.5 since i finished with xanax and am kinda scared that xanax is a little more addicting than ativan. and, want me to take propranolol along with this. my question is, has anyone taken this propranolol (20mg once a day) for anxiety problems? and does anyone think increasing the paxil will help at all for me?
Avatar n tn the dr told me i could start taking propranolol -10 mg 3 times daily instead. i dont know what to do. i dont know how my body will react to a new prescription. i cant afford to take a chance to have a panic attack in front of other people. i dont know which one will work the best for the long hours i will be working.
Avatar m tn I have been clean for over 3 years, but had a panic attack on October 6th and got scared. I took a Xanax from a family member and that began a 3 to 4 week binge taking a daily dose of .5 to 1. mg at night with 2 to 5 beers. The feeling I got from the Xanax triggered my active addiction all over again. I want to stop but want to make sure I do what's best. My last Xanax was Wednesday around 7:00pm. I didn't sleep well at all last night and can deal with that if that's all.
Avatar m tn re taking a benzo daily or close to daily, you generally prefer a longer acting benzo vs. a very short acting one like xanax. it helps avoid these withdrawals, although no benzo should be taken daily unless all other options have been excercised.
Avatar n tn Also, I have Lupus that is in remission. I am taking Methimazole and Propranolol. My doctor wants me to take the medicine for 3 months and then do the radioactive iodine treatment. I am leaning towards the surgery because of already having Lupus. Is there anyone out there who has Lupus and has had either one of their treatments?
Avatar n tn Just curious why you switched from Klonopin to xanax? Xanax seems to be a little stronger but wears off quicker and more abrubtly. Klonopin helps more with breakthrough anxiety in my opinion. A good friend of mine had to switch from Xanax to Klonopin because they were feelign withdrawals from xanax during the day...especially if they waited an extra hour or so to take their dose because they forgot.
Avatar m tn I recently started seeing a new General Practitioner who came very highly recommended by family and friends. I love her, she's a hippie who went to medical school. As a rule her staff said it would be in my best interest to begin with a physical, to which I agreed. Full labs, CBC, EKG, EEG (unusual for a GP), and blood pressure, etc. She was quite alarmed by my blood pressure, and she detected AFib. I proceeded to inform her that the AFIb is news to me.
Avatar f tn I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.
406886 tn?1202068581 Paxil is indicated for long term use, while Xanax is not. Do not increase Xanax - you risk developing a tolerance and it will likely become less and less effective. I'd investigate an alternate SSRI rather than increase the benzo. You'll regret it later if you rely on the X. Best Wishes.
Avatar m tn I do not know if there are less side effects than xanax. I do know, however, that xanax is only supposed to be prescribed for short term use and as needed. Klonopin is for long-term daily use. I am sure someone will post here to help you.
Avatar m tn I am not too familiar with Klonopin but many people have switched from xanax to that..my thought about it though is that you say you are taking it to sleep. Xanax is an anti anxiety med and not very useful for sleep. i would consider tapering off it completely and try a med for sleep. I have taken xanax for many years and at one point was on @7mg..but I successfully weaned off it.
709686 tn?1277432159 It is by far the better and safer choice over Xanax.......but perhaps his kickbacks are greater with the Xanax. One should always consider that when the prescription pad comes out! I would, POSSIBLY, give this doctor ONE last chance to redeem himself. Tell him you do not want the Xanax, that the diazepam is working very well for you, but if he still insists on prescribing Xanax, I would run, not walk, out of his office and find another doctor poste haste!
994817 tn?1249738278 Hello... I suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks. My heart races, I sweat, I can hardly focus,- basically I feel like I'm on speed- ALL the time. I take anti-anxiety medication (xanax) and it really really works. I was on anti-depressants because docs want to over prescribe anti-depressants and under prescribe benzodiazapines (like xanax, valium, etc). Well the anti-depressants didnt do ANYTHING for me.... I took them for about 6 months and was a complete WRECK!
Avatar f tn I don’t have as much anxiety issue anymore but whenever I try to taper of Xanax, I cannot sleep. When I asked him again, he said keep taking Xanax -XR for three months as he thinks different medications will have other side effects. I took a second opinion and the other Dr told me to taper off Xanax and use Trazodone 50mg everyday. 1mg Xanax is definitely helping me with sleep but I am apprehensive about switching drugs especially the first Dr was emphatic about staying on Xanax.
