Prometrium vs provera

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium vs provera

prometrium

I am taking prometrium to help support the pregnancy (if i am). I usually take provera to start my cycle because i am irregular. I believe you can take prometrium to do the same. I am wondering if i am not pregnant if my af will start while i am on the prometrium. I am not sure if the test they are doing is quantitative. Maybe they are just interpreting the numbers and telling if i am pregnant or not.

I have PCOS, i don't have periods so i don't ovulate, so i have been put on Provera to bring on a period so that i can ovulate, my fertility specialist has told me to take Clomid on days 5 thu to 9, but i have been reading alot and minimal amount of women have been taking 5-9 they seem to be taking days 3 thu to 7, and having success, i'm so worried that it's not going to work.
Many types of meds of the same brand are 5 times higher cost in the US vs another country. Well if this bill is true we all know someone who cant afford more expensive non-thyroid drugs now if they have to pay the jacked up US price. For this reason I am surprised at the lack of concern with this informational thread.
I also haven't had a period since August (and it wasn't much either) My doc. is having me take Provera starting this week and she even said I may not bleed at all and to start Clomid 6 days after my last dose of Provera. I'm trying to understand your situation, are you supposed to ovulate with Metformin only? I guess some people do but my doc. thought it would be best to start Clomid right away.
Lisa--You should call and have your doctor put you on a 10-day cycle of Provera to begin your AF. Then they could put you on b/c after that. I have had to take Provera about 3 times in my life to start AF, and I will say it's not real fun. But, you seemed OK on Clomid and I was not, so everyone reacts differently. They may want to check you out for cysts before RX'ing the Provera, but that is the med they use to bring AF into town.
I took prometrium for 7 days to start my period, and then I took the clomid days 5-9 of my cycle. As soon as my period stopped I BD every other day. I went for progesterone check on CD21. They called and said that my progesterone level showed that I had definately ovulated. I also used OPK's and I did the whole BBT thing.
I had two rounds of clomid 50, 100, and then every cycle I had to start with Provera to induce my period (cuz of PCOS, it wouldn't start on its own), and then 1 cycle with Metformin, and now is my 4th cycle with Clomid 150, trigger shot and IUI today...
Last cycle they didn't give me a number, just said it was low and to take prometrium (vaginally). So since my numbers are good I do not have to take the prometrium, thankfully since I felt like I was losing my mind while taking that medication. Just looking for some of that baby dust and positive thoughts!!!
This may meen AF is coming, so I guess that's one positive. Also, if you started on the Provera, which is progesterone, that can cause them. My high progesterone is the culprit also. I hope the suffering ends soon for you. Let me know if there is anything I can do besides be your friend and pray :-) I myself am doing fairly well, all things considered. Slept mostly all day.
My Dr had me on provera, clomid, Follistim, IUI and then progesterone supp. 50mg each 2 times a day. And i go for my beta on 1/27 as long as AF stays way and i pray she does. They have us wait 16 days because they said that the progesterone may push af bad. ugh.
Is there an age factor in your practice for the 3day vs 5day? For patients over a certain age, is it best to not wait for the 5 day, because the embryo will have a better chance in the uterus than in the lab? I'm 43 and got pregnant naturally 7 months ago, but miscarried at 8 weeks. I recently had my first IVf. I only produced 2 follicles, and at retrieval we learned one follicle was empty.
Massive doses of birth control pills (which we don't want, because of all the side effects), or to take Provera, which is a hormone. We chose the Provera. Last night I took the last pill... I was told to take it for 5 days and then I should start my period again. She said if this period lasts longer than 2 weeks to come back. I haven't started up again yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours since my last dose. So hopefully this turns out well.
I don't know if it was the shot I received pre-IUI, if it's the Prometrium, or if I'm just PMS'ing, but I have been really cranky lately, I've had really sharp cramps in my abdomen, and my breasts are only a little sore. No nausea, no vomiting, no fatigue....but I'm still praying for a miracle...
I am doing a FET, so I am only on estrace and getting ready to start prometrium on Wednesday. We did our first FET last July which was successful, but unfortunatly I miscarried. I have been having a lot of uterus issues.... but today it was 8.5mm! Yeah! This will be our 3rd FET. I am praying with everything in me that this month is succesful!!! Tons Of Baby Dust!!!
I'm 4 days past provera and nothing yet. I'm getting alittle worried because I've been on provera like 6 times and almost always like clock work I get it two days after stopping it. I'll wait until it's been 7 days past then I'll call my dr. Didn't realize I could wish so much for AF :-) Well I have enjoyed this day off. Back to work tomorrow. Hope you all had a great weekend :-) SSBD!!!!
) I just finished my cycle of Provera and I'm waiting for AF, on day 2 I'll start Estradiol and be apprx 14days out from my transfer ( I have 4 at the 'babysitter, hoping all survive the defrost...) THERE IS HOPE LADIES!! If you look at the pics on my profile, little Cadee, now almost 15mo, is the reason I'm finishing my last cycle.... It was quite a journey to get there (3 fresh and 2 frozen transfers...
It doesn't seem like it would get very good results and there would only be one egg vs several with a regular cycle, right? Just wondering...I've heard of it, but I don't know a lot about it. @beachdream...so glad you found us! I think your plan for choosing a new egg donor sounds like a good one.
I did both my lupron and my gonal-F's using these--infact they are the same type needle as what is used for the HCG shot. Also my Dr perscriped Prometrium--in the form of a vaginal suppository for progesterone...much easier then shots in the muscle.
I started getting some light to moderate bleeding (dark red) and cramping on the evening of the 25th and has been constant since then but apparently cramping and bleeding can be a side effect of prometrium suppositories. Just praying that the bleeding and cramping stops in the next day or two. Next beta is Sept 3rd so I'll be right there beside you in spirit getting blood drawn and hoping for baby.
