Pristiq weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq weight gain

pristiq

407790 tn?1397761026 ve been on just about every antidepressant on the market for the past 20 years and miraculously none of them made me gain weight...until Pristiq. I gained 10 pounds on it—not a ton of weight but I'm short so it really shows. I'm now in the process of going off it. My question is this: Have people been able to lose weight after discontinuing an antidepressant that made them gain? I'm worried this drug has permanently messed with my metabolism.
1450085 tn?1298941702 IF YOU GAIN WEIGHT ON ANY OF THESE THAN YOUR DOSE IS TO HIGH! I ACTUALLY LOSE WEIGHT ON BOTH! i have never got the weight gain thing?
Avatar n tn I was on Effexor XR for a few months, but I couldn't take getting sick whenever I forgot to take a dose. My doctor switched me to Pristiq, which works the same way as effexor. I haven't had any problems with weight gain on either of the meds, though. I've actually lost a bit of weight since starting pristiq. I've been on it for months and my depression and anxiety have been put in their place! Your eating habits may have changed a bit.
Avatar n tn Gained lots of weight on Effexor. On Pristiq kept gaining weight plus my period never came back (2 months). Stopped Pristiq cold turkey because my doc told me it was either this (tablet should not be cut...risk of serotonyne syndrome) or going back to Effexor and counting beads. It´s been 2 weeks and I feel strong spasms in my brain. Like something is pressuring it, especially in the back of my head. Frequency varies along day. For 6 hours or so the spasms occur 2 times every minute.
Avatar f tn Your general doc is wrong, of course. This is why you see a psychiatrist. And my guess is, if these drugs are working, your problem very well may be depression, especially if wellbutrin worked -- it's one of the most stimulating of the antidepressants which is why it doesn't cause the weight gain that most antidepressants cause.
Avatar f tn Tell him or her that you feel Pristiq is not working for you. That you feel that Pristiq has made you gain weight and that you now have carb cravings that you never had before and that you want to stop taking Pristiq. A friend of mine was prescribed a drug by her family doctor which created similiar side effects as you have described. She went back to her family doctor and told her she didn't want to be on this drug anymore and that she wanted to stop taking it.
Avatar f tn A dry mouth was one of the first symptoms that was really bothersome for me. Then I noticed weight gain, feeling cold, my skin was dry for years I thought that was because I was in memopause. If you google thyroid diet, eliminating certain foods because they cause inflammation and it triggers the immune system to attack the thyroid. Also limiting your exposure to toxins like harsh household cleaners, nail polish removers, pesticides, ect. All the best to you!
Avatar m tn Hi: I have general anxiety with a tendency towards social anxiety. I used to have panic attacks but haven't had one in a couple years. I also suffer with depression. What drug has helped you? I am now taking Klonopin for the anxiety and Prozac for depression. I would like to cut the Klonopin or at least cut down (now taking 1 mg/day). The Prozac isn't helping my depression at all and I have given it months to work.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Zyprexa is known for causing significant weight gain. Many meds make us really hungry all of the time. If your concerned about weight it is really important for you to look up the side effects of a med before you choose to take it or not. There are meds that are weight neutral. It's a shame so many dr's don't take that into consideration when prescribing these drugs. They don't have to carry the weight, we do! I will not take a drug that is weight gaining no matter what.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist switched me to Effexor because he says they are the same and I am tapering off. I did NOT gain weight on Pristiq and I think the sexual side effects weren't as bad. I can tell the difference on Effexor. I wouldn't be worried to start it if you need something, but I'm not sure yet about getting off. It's basically like Effexor, so I assume going off it will be like Effexor and that's supposed to be tough.
407790 tn?1397761026 ) I also take Lamictal (200 mg) and Topamax (200 mg), the latter mostly to help me lose the weight I gained on Pristiq (I quit that a month ago and started taking Cymbalta instead.) I also take Adderall because I have narcolepsy. I know, quite a cocktail. I have been on just about every AD there is for the past 20 years. I don't remember exactly when I was officially diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression…a few years ago?
Avatar f tn I took Lexapro for GAD and it is just wonderful, except for the weight gain, which in my case is really big...so my dr just switched me to pristiq. I have been taking it for 4 days now. I feel a bit dizzy today and a bit anxious though....how I wish it would work for my GAD so that I would not have to take Lexapro and gain so much weight..anybody with similar experiences?
711224 tn?1344771687 Remeron has been associated with increased appetite and weight gain. Some antidepressants that causes less weight again include Wellbutrin, Celexa, and Trazodone.
2089111 tn?1332697773 Some people who are on Pristiq, do happen to gain excessive weight in a relatively short time. A close friend was given free samples by her Dr. and she did discontinue its use because of the unwanted weight within weeks! There seems to be a metabolic issue with some patients. My suspicion is that one of the main factors is that through the SNRI activity, the JNK gene expression gets increased substantially, and eventually resulting in excessive weight gain. So, Pristiq acts as an activator.
Avatar n tn Two years ago a new doctor gave me Zoloft but it made me gain weight, which is an issue for me. My depression started as a teenager because I was overweight, and I know I became a very insecure adult with low self esteem, in great part because of this. Switched back to Prozac and things remained the same, though I managed to lose the extra weight. Some months ago my mother died and everything really went downhill.
Avatar n tn I was on antidepressants until recently for pain but have since stopped due to weight gain. It feels good with noting in me except my BP meds….No pain ..no gain.
Avatar f tn The mini-pill is less effective than regular preparations. Depo-provera is effective, but watch out for weight gain that could worsen blood pressure issues, and take calcium supplements in addition. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn t on it at all, the only bad side effect was loss of sex drive and libido etc. no weight gain or loss that i noticed. I have bipolar 1, and was on other medication at the time. as you probably know everyone is different when it comes to these types of medication so please don't be discouraged by my comment. My dad was on it for 10 years and said it was the best thing he had ever tried for depression.
Avatar n tn That is a side-effect a lot of people have a hard time with when taking anti-depressents; weight gain. Generally the weight gain is limited to 2-3 lbs, if that will ease your husbands mind, but sometimes just knowing about the side affect makes the paranoia about it worse. Zoloft I've heard is actually supposed to be one of the better anti-depressants to be on for weight gain, but it does depend on the person.
606378 tn?1297304964 I have been on Pristiq 50mg for almost 3yrs and before that was on many anti depressants. I've never been put on Effexor but for me Pristiq has been the Only med that has given me relief from this horrible ailment Depression. It hasn't caused me to gain weight or stopped me from having orgasms like the others. I do have trouble with excessive sweating but that could be due to turning 40. I myself would recommend Pristiq but we all know everyone reacts differently.
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
Avatar f tn If she has little interest in eating, for example, Remeron can be a good drug -- it makes anyone want to eat, creating a lot of weight gain, but for someone with dementia sometimes they stop eating enough, and this drug is easier to stop taking than ssris and snris. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I recently switched from Pristiq to Effexor XR in order to taper down. 50mg of Pristiq=150mg of Effexor. I found Pristiq did not cause as much low libido as Effexor has for me. I also didn't gain weight on it. Same might be true for Effexor for me (who knows?). I gained weight on Celexa and felt significantly more blunted emotionally by it.
Avatar m tn I take seroquel, pristiq, oxcarbazepine, clonopin, and depakote. They work very well together, however, the weight gain on this cocktail of meds is incredible. I went from 190 to a staggering 261. I exercise everyday and all I see is my weight climbing. I would love to find the pills that would have the same effect and not cause an increase in weight. Sadly there isn't such a pill, yet. I enjoy being somewhat normal, so I will take the weight gain that comes with it for now.
603543 tn?1255294450 Memory loss. weight gain. mood swings comparable to bi polar . been on prestiq 3 years but have had the least side effects with this drug. I've been on just about everything it seems. effexor worked ok but I had tremors after the 2nd year. it seems like the longer I'm on a med the less it outlays the side effects. I sometimes think I'd be better without.
Avatar f tn s (seratonin and neuropeneferin reputake inhibitors) like effexor and pristiq. i was on zoloft for a while a couple of years back but it made me gain so much weight, gave me serious insomnia and made me emotionally numb, my doc has just put me on Pristiq which i have not started yet becuase quite frankly im scared to start. i am exploring naturopathic medicine before i give in to western medicine again.
Avatar f tn Hello what is your diagnosis if you don't mind me asking? I am on Seroquel XR 300mg aswell as Depakote for Bipolar Disorder. I do know that seroquel is used for depression also. Before I was diagnosed they said I had major depressive disorder with pyschotic features and was given Bipolar type meds.. I wonder if this is the case for you..just wondering?
