I've been taking prevacid 30 mg TWICE a day for 10 years. Once a day before that. Doc says should be no problem. I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis in my spine (aver. -3.2) and osteopenia in my hip. I am very active, martial arts instructor. 5'11" and 185 lbs. I was told to cut back the Prevacid to once a day. My blood work shows no obvious problems. Has prevacid been linked to Osteoporosis?
After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. Most importantly is I am having more frequent heartburn and chest pain, which I don't have when I am on the H2 blocker.
Hi. I take Prevacid, which is a little pricey, even with insurance. However, there is another one, Aciphex, which was about 30 dollars cheaper. I am back on the Prevacid as the Aciphex didn't work as well ( for me...I was on Prevacid for years and only switched because of the cost...65 dollars). You may want to ask about that. Also, I was told my pharmacist that otc prilosic works well too.
Right now, I am taking Prevacid 30mg. My voice at times is hoarse, so I went to an ENT dr. and he sent me for a test to look into my throat, and I was told that I have swollen vocal cords, and the acid is still backing up. I took Prilosec OTC but it did not agree with me. I have rashes on my knees, elbows, back and my neck and back and head hurt, Is the Prevacid enough and could it be causing all these symptoms?
While cough can be a symptom of asthma, your description of your illness really does suggest that GERD is the common factor for both your asthma and directly for your cough. The response of your cough to Prevacid® (lansoprazole) provides support for your interpretation of cause and effect, but as you imply, you cannot be expected to take Prevacid® (lansoprazole) or similar medicines all your life.
I'm a 42 year old female. Fairly healthy. I've been diagnosed with GERD since 2002. I had it under control with low-dose PPI's, diet changes and lifestyle changes until 2006. For the next couple years, I was diligent about my diet, lifestyle changes and taking my prescriptions which included taking high-dose PPI's twice a day (Prevacid Solutabs, Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid, Zegrid, Kapidex, Aciphex, etc....) and supplemented with Gaviscon or Zantac.
My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
The only medication that has ever worked for me without increasing chest pain and pressure making breathing had is Prevacid at 40 mg strengh to heal and control acid. Also a upper chest xray from the front and side may show a hiatal hernia. How was it determined you have mild acid? I was told that after a PH probe test. However, like you my problem came and went. i have had bright red blood in my stool for a few days now but very little to no pain, could it be from my taking prevacid?
I just went to the doctor to get blood tests and make sure that my drinking has not already damaged my body beyond repair. My doctor gave me Prevacid for some stomach issues I have been Having. Does anyone know if it is safe to take it when I have been drinking? I am really trying to stop but I am having problems with the withdrawls so I am trying to wean myself off. Any one have any opinions? I would hate to do more damage when I ma trying to correct already done damage.
I have been taking prevacid for a week and now the pain is almost totally out of my chest and shoulder blade BUT now has moved to my middle back and also primarily located under the left side ribs (location of the stomach).
It varies anything from a tight "crampy" (light) feeling to mild pain that shoots through to my back.
My bone density plummeted from 15% above normal to 25% below normal in 6 years (post menopause). Could Prevacid excellerate bone loss. I don't have many risk factors for osteoporosis, no family history.
I take Synthroid, Verapamil, Prevacid. I eat lots of dairy, greens, almonds. I exercise daily.
I eat a fairly low carb diet, minimal alcohol, caffeine, and cola.

I am currently suffering from acid reflux and tried those OTC meds. Prilosec worked the best for me. However, I haven't been feeling that great and the doc prescribed Prevacid at 30mg twice a day along with 1g of Amoxil and Biaxin. My H. Pylori test came back negative so I could stop the Amoxil and Biaxin. It might take a while but he tells me it will work.
On the other hand, a friend of mine had severe reflux and the doc prescribed Protonix.
these pass few day the doctor told me that i have acid reflux that cause phlegm and the doctor prescribe of prevacid (lansoprazole) and motilium (domperidone). now how could i know that i have already cured from the disease. the symtoms that come up to me in start is sore throat after few days it was gone and now very light chest pain and it only twice since i was diagnosed and there is no more symptoms.
Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
he is on keppra and phenobarb, but has also been on prevacid 2x day for the reflux for the last 5 mo. he eats 2nd foods still basically because he has sensory issues. the reflux has defitnately taken its course. my son wont take in the calories that he is supposed to take in. i can try to make him but it normally will make him throw it back up. he only weighs 18 lbs, which is ok .he has never been over 18.5 lbs ever. the ped GI and the ped surgeon want to put a feeding tube in him.
