Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.

My last child had reflux and had to be put on Prevacid right about the same age as your son. She had the same syptoms. It was terrible. My ped said that all babies have reflux to some degree, which makes sense, since all babies eat and spit on on some level. But not all are bothered to the point of needing medication. Some just have it worse than others. The good news is that most babies outgrow it later on. Mine did and hasn't had to take Prevacid for months.

He has Silent Reflux and is on Zantac twice a day and Prevacid once a day. It seems like he eats and eats because he is in pain. What can I do to help him not gain so much weight?

My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.

I am having a problem with taking my Prevacid 4 hrs. after Synthroid. Right now my routine is to take Synthroid when I first get up and 6 AM. an hour later eat something void of fiber (usually egg sub.) The 4 hrs. later I take the Prevacid and have another small meal (cereal usually). The problem is something is causing a bad taste to come back in to my mouth sometime after all this and I am thinking it is because the Prevacid really is not being taken prior to eating.

If that was all normal, and you had no heart murmurs, I would probably prescribe Prevacid or one of the other H2 blockers for you to alleviate both symptoms. Certainly some nausea is to be expected at your stage. Rellux from the stomach up into the esophagus can cause chest pain and nausea both, though so some of the symptoms might be improved. I just went to the doctor to get blood tests and make sure that my drinking has not already damaged my body beyond repair. My doctor gave me Prevacid for some stomach issues I have been Having. Does anyone know if it is safe to take it when I have been drinking? I am really trying to stop but I am having problems with the withdrawls so I am trying to wean myself off. Any one have any opinions? I would hate to do more damage when I ma trying to correct already done damage.

Now off hydro 5 days, taking prevacid again. I will deal with acid reflux and take my prevacid..Stress does make it flare up really bad...so just maybe I can get it back under control soon...

My bone density plummeted from 15% above normal to 25% below normal in 6 years (post menopause). Could Prevacid excellerate bone loss. Daughter is already on Neocate and Prevacid twice daily. Doctors at hospital and GI doc said they've never seen anything like it. She has mild reflux at best. She's had endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, ph monitoring, MRI, ECHO, Biopsies of colon and esophagus, and numerous blood tests and urine tests. They can find nothing wrong with her. Now they want to put in a G-tube in a week or so. Right now she's feeding through an NG tube. I'm so upset I don't know what to do.

After taking Prevacid, I gain my appetite back. The problem is, I have develope new symptoms after taking prevacid for 1 week. I am having very loose bowel movements, blood on the toliet paper when I wipe, indigestion, lower abdominal pain. i had blood work done and now my cholesterol is 160 without any changes except for the Prevacid. Can Prevacid lower cholesterol ? I was worried because I have read that an unexplained drop in cholesterol could mean cancer someplace.

I quit prevacid on many occasions cold turkey. It caused massive lower stomach cramps and thick painful diarrhea. I recommend you get off it immediately, however, slowly ween yourself off. DO NOT quit cold turkey. Get on Zantac. PPI's truly messed me up. Made me 1000 times sicker than my GERD. Now I've been off them for 6 months and live a normal healthy life. Those are poison. Doctors will do anything they can to get your money, don't belive the ppi hype.

Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.

Hi I have had GERD for a few years now. I've never had halitosis. Recently my reflux started acting up, so i doubled my prevacid. I'm not sure what is causing my very horrid halitosis. I have figured out it is not dental related. In fact when I burp, I can feel the hot yucky gas coming up from my stomach. A recent google showed that prevacid can cause a side effect of halitosis. Other comments insist it is the GERD but I am not entirely convinced.

my guess would be if you feed her a few bites of cereal before the bottle that she'll still have help with the reflux becausei t will pad her stomach but it will allow her to drink pure formula....and you don't really have to wake her up. I think if she's eating a small amount of cereal to formula ratio she'll naturally increase her formula intake just from an increase in hunger...but that's just my guess.

I'm pretty scared.... I don't know what to think. 44 about to be 45 year old white male I had heart disease at an early age but other than that, no health problems. About a year now I have had very bad acid reflux and at times due to the damage it was causing, I had lots of trouble swallowing. Before I started taking prevacid ...I wasn't able to swallow ANY kind of food that had any kind of heat to it..and by heat I mean spicy, I don't mean temperature wise.

so they doc changed his formula to enfamil gentle ease that made him worse (he was on that for 4 days) so she put him on nutramigen and changed the zantac to prevacid. hes been on the formula for 4 days and the prec for 2 days. he is pooping better and he wasnt screaming as much but tonight he started scream at 7pm and it is now 120am and just now starting to settle down. what is wrong with him? should i still give the prev and nutram time to work its way in?

I have fought taking PPis over the years but when I developed the EE, I had to go on high dose prevacid---30 mgs, 2x daily. I wake up some mornings with stabbing pain in my gut with the first deep breath that I take. I experimented recently afte wakin gup in pain, and didn't ake the prevacid that night. i woke up with no pain in my gut. Has anyone else had a PPI cause them stomach pain? I am also on a swallowed steroid for the EE.

I have taken GERD medication for about 20 years. I was on Prevacid for many years. My GERD is severe, and nothing else worked as well. Protonix and Nexium did NOTHING for me, nor did Aciphex. Prevacid works OK, and my doc suggested Kapidex and I took it for a month. I did about as well on it as the Prevacid if not a tad better. I think Prevacid and/or Kapidex blow away Nexium; although what may be right for me will not be guaranteed for you.

had no real concerns only that due to my son suffering from GERDs, she saw in the xray that the bile is backing up into the stomach. This was the same thing she told me 3 years ago and prescribed Prevacid and now prescribed Nexium. There were bad news, however, when the Dr. got the results from the sonogram. She found a lesion on my son's pancreas and the liver is enlarged. Lab results also show the liver enzymes slightly higher. A CT Scan is pending (in 2 weeks!).
