lyrica

634733 tn?1316625992 Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.
Avatar n tn They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia. The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it. Pain management, like football, is a game of inches.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and generalized anxiety disorders. It is better known as Lyrica. Many physicians order opiates and Lyrica together. Methadone is a different animal. I'm not confident in saying you can safely take the two together. Your best source would be a Pharmacist. They are the true experts in medications, the side effects, interactions and so forth. They are free and you don't always have to give your name.
Avatar f tn ve found is that with several of these patients, part of the pain is neuropathic in origin (pain due to damage to nerves because of the mastectomy). Addition of another drug which directly controls neuropathic pain, such as gabapentin (Neurontin) or pregabalin (Lyrica) usually eases the symptom. This may work for you. You can use heating pads, for as long as you do not apply excessive heat and macerate the tissue surrounding the wound.
Avatar f tn From what I understand, there's a few differences. First, pregabalin cost a lot more than gabapentin. That's cause gabapentin is generic. Lyrica (pregablin) is effective for fibromyalgia when gabapentin is not. gabapentin often requires 1800mg / day to work (built up slowly over time), while pregabalin can be effective at 150mg TID. And the change of side effects build as the does is increased.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Then they were discovered to have great effects on different kinds of pain - mostly neuropathic pain. I think of it this way. Pain come from unhappy and spazzing nerves. Thus, we can often treat them with happy medicine (anti-depressants) and anti-spazzy meds (seizure meds). It sounds simplistic, but it is closer to the truth that you might think. There is a strong correlation between chronic pain and depression. Each can cause the other.
Avatar f tn in the States, has unlabeled uses for GAD and SAD, (Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder) it is primarily prescribed here for fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain associated with peripheral neuropathy. Nowhere can I find that it is beneficial for sleep problems, although one of it's side effects IS "fatigue," I don't think that is the desired effect for a sleep aid.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
901222 tn?1399142874 t really cut it for me, but I found that pregabalin 150mg TID for 2 days before, and then for 5 days after the procedure, was very effective in controlling that kind of neuropathic pain. You mention NMDA-antagonists -- Have you tried Namenda (memantine)? It is an oral NMDA-antagonist. I used to take ketamine capsules, but they are compounded, not covered by Rx, and got too expensive for me to afford. I recently had a low-dose ketamine infusion.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is known as Lyrica in the States and is prescribed primarily to relieve neuropathic pain if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have had shingles. It is also used to treat fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing the number of pain signals that are sent out by damaged nerves in the body.
Avatar n tn If you are already post-menopausal, you can ask your doctor about switching to a different class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors (like arimidex or femara). For the present pain, you may ask your doctor about additional drugs for neuropathic pain such as gabapentin or pregabalin. Also, some alternative treatments can offer some pain control such as accupressure or accupuncture. I hope your pain can be controlled soon. Regards and God bless.

Avatar m tn This sounds indicative of a neuropathic pain; a type of pain caused by damage to the nerves. It could be as simple as a nerve torn or otherwise damaged by strenuous gym activity. This type of pain is very hard to manage if it is severe. You should know that the pain may never go away fully. It's important to know that there are measures that can be taken to reduce neuropathic pain (such as pregabalin).
Avatar m tn Burning sensation is usually a pain syndrome associated with nerves, i.e.,neuropathic pain. It can also be associated with systemic disorders such as rheumatological and endocrine (e.g., the two disorders you mention). (Another cause of neuropathy is vitamin B12 deficiency). Neuropathic pain can be diagnosed by history and physical, and also may include an examination called EMG/NCS which assesses the condition of your nerves. This is performed at most neurology clinics.
Avatar f tn Consult an endocrinologist for prescription of drugs like pregabalin, thiamine for the neuropathic pain relief. Hope this helps. Take care.
1218873 tn?1300091216 ) i have been on Gabapentin for the last 3 months with only a little success (the twitches have reduced considerably) but no relief pain. Now the Dr is going to swap me to Pregabalin which has to be done slowly to switch from one to the other, so this will start as soon as I'm home from holiday. I wondered if anyone had done this and what there experience of the drugs are?
739070 tn?1338603402 I recently started PT but this is NOT muscular it is deep bone pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it neuropathic pain of some sort or have I finally gone off the deep end?
