634733 tn?1316625992 I have severe (grade 4) arthritis in my knees and any weight gain of any kind has a really bad effect on my pain and mobility - AND I have just lost that stone it has taken me since May last year :( I have also had some very nasty side effects to many meds over the years and have a list of allergies to drugs as long as my arm. This makes me very, very wary.
Avatar m tn Pregabalin, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and generalized anxiety disorders. It is better known as Lyrica. Many physicians order opiates and Lyrica together. Methadone is a different animal. I'm not confident in saying you can safely take the two together. Your best source would be a Pharmacist. They are the true experts in medications, the side effects, interactions and so forth. They are free and you don't always have to give your name.
Avatar m tn One common cause is diabetes. The treatment for neuropathic pain (pain coming from nerves) includes gabapentin and pregabalin, and medications such as elavil (which is an antidepressant but has actually been found to be helpful with neuropathic pain as well). There are other medications, but these are typically the first line. It is important to keep in mind that the treatment of neuropathic pain takes time to get the doses of medications to an optimal dose.
Avatar n tn They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia. The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it. Pain management, like football, is a game of inches.
Avatar m tn I take Neuroton and it helps a lot. I can certainly tell if I miss a dose. I use it for neuropathic pain. It was less expensive too. I take 3x 300 mgs. I have taken higher dosages but caused memory problems. I am also hypo and take Armour Thyroid 300 mg. in the morning on an empty stomach.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any pain medications right now? If the pain is persistent and severe, you may want to go back to your doctor to get additional pain medicines or have your current medication changed. It might also be wise to have the wound checked for signs of infection. Sometimes pain on the operative site is the first sign of an infection in the area.

Avatar m tn The symptoms include pain at the level of the problem (i.e. neck or back etc) and pain that may radiate down the arm or leg (depending on where the problem is). In more advanced cases, muscle weakness or sensory symptoms such as tingling or numbness may occur. A radiculopathy is often diagnosed based on history, physical examination, and MRI of the spine. Another possibility is local trauma.
Avatar n tn My mother is elderly 76 and holding -- she unable to use the internet - so I am serving this purpose. She had a mastectomy in 1998. Since her surgery for years she has experienced pain and recently of the last 3 years developed a seemingly fluid filled lump beneath the removed breast. She can palpate the lump with no pain or discomfort. However, when she attempts to wear a bra with a prosthetic within several hours she has to have the bra removed immediately.
Avatar f tn From what I understand, there's a few differences. First, pregabalin cost a lot more than gabapentin. That's cause gabapentin is generic. Lyrica (pregablin) is effective for fibromyalgia when gabapentin is not. gabapentin often requires 1800mg / day to work (built up slowly over time), while pregabalin can be effective at 150mg TID. And the change of side effects build as the does is increased.
1080243 tn?1262975363 Then they were discovered to have great effects on different kinds of pain - mostly neuropathic pain. I think of it this way. Pain come from unhappy and spazzing nerves. Thus, we can often treat them with happy medicine (anti-depressants) and anti-spazzy meds (seizure meds). It sounds simplistic, but it is closer to the truth that you might think. There is a strong correlation between chronic pain and depression. Each can cause the other.
Avatar f tn I have recently seen my Neurologist, who has confirmed I am suffering with Anxiety and has suggested I go on a drug called Pregabalin and he has said it will help my sleep problem. My question is has anyone had any experiences with this drug, if so comments very welcome.
Avatar m tn (Another cause of neuropathy is vitamin B12 deficiency). Neuropathic pain can be diagnosed by history and physical, and also may include an examination called EMG/NCS which assesses the condition of your nerves. This is performed at most neurology clinics. Additionally, blood tests are indicated to find the etiology of the neuropathic pain. The most common cause of neuropathy is diabetes; thus, this should always be tested in the workup.

1218873 tn?1300091216 HI Bob Both the eye pain and head pain that lasts for a few seconds is a much deeper pain, as opposed to pain around the right side of the head ear & eye which I have constantly for which I take pregabalin 400mg a day and also Cymbalta 60mg at night. I also have botoxilin injections for the atypical blespharospams which I have been told is to do with something disfunctioning in the basil ganglia.
Avatar f tn Antidepressants can alleviate neuropathic pain. Amitriptyline and Cymbalta are two that are often prescribed. Seizure-control drugs like Lyrica and Tegretol also suppress it. Capsaicin cream (Zostrix, no prescription needed) applied to the painful area can bring relief. Lidoderm patches and lidocaine gel, products related to Novocain, offer easing of pain." 901222 tn?1399142874 I struggle with a severe form of spinal arthritis. My doctors encourage me to medicate. I don't like to. I tend to slip in and out of dependency according to pain levels and depression about it. I stay far away from oxy and morphine because they are very difficult for people to quit. Vicodin makes me sluggish and sad. I lose connections and sulk in my bed. I just stopped all about a week ago. Feeling a bit better. Still depressed with another RF medical procedure looming. I'm worried.
Avatar n tn Symptoms (in general from herniated discs in the cervical region and lumbar region) suggesting the need for urgent surgery includes muscle weakness, loss of bowel or bladder control, loss of sensation, particularly in the pelvis and severe and progressive pain. This will need to be decided upon by your PCP and/or neurologist. Lastly, where is your pain? Is it associated with the bulging disc or is it caused by the actual car wreck?
Avatar m tn Pregabalin is known as Lyrica in the States and is prescribed primarily to relieve neuropathic pain if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have had shingles. It is also used to treat fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is used with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in people with epilepsy.
