Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia antibiotics of choice

pneumonia

I have terrible pain in my lungs every time i breathe or god forbid cough - i think it can be due to the actual infection the pneumonia causes or sometimes inflammation of the linings of the lungs. as far as i know there are no specific excercises to do but steam inhalation helps - ie lots of hot showers\ baths, also drinking lots and resting (as if you have any other choice!!). I hope you feel better soon!
I found this website as I search for a new solution for my Mother who has a problem with incredible phlegm which has to be monitored so closely (lots of suctioning) in order to avoid the development of pneumonia. She is a stroke victim requiring total care. She does breathe on her own with an oxygen supplement. There was a solution for the phlegm that worked for a few years (no longer effective now) that might help you.
When I had pneumonia I did have lots of mucous however it was clear. Doctor gave me a choice to be treated in the hospital or in his office everyday for about 2 weeks. I opted for his office. Treatment consisted of taking deep breaths from a tube connected to a big machine with a measuring ball. I had to take deep breaths while mist came through tube which I breathed into my lungs, I believe it was some form of medication.
And, if there is a mass, the nature of the mass must be determined unless it has gotten smaller with treatment of his pneumonia. If it is the same or larger, bronchoscopy would be the diagnostic procedure of choice. Lung disease limited to one lobe, in this case the left lower lobe, does not cause a reduction of pulmonary function to 37% of predicted. You should ask the pulmonologist to provide his/her best guess as to the cause of diminished lung function.
Tosser, I have had a lot of all sorts of Infections since begining tx. I have been on a few antibiotics lately. I can't remember the name of the one but It was the 5 day antibiotic. Now I am on a 10 day tx and It's called Levaquin 500mg. I have had no probs w/them at all. My Dr has this Medical PDA that she cross refrences EVERYthing she prescribes for me to make SURE It won't cause any trouble w/tx or my liver. I think she bought the PDA just for me:) J/K. Take care, Kelly.
I have heard of a person treating who developed "interstitial pneumonia" which was attributed to interferon. Apparently this form of pneumonia is often associated with undeveloped (such as babies) or immuno-suppressed folks such as HIV/AIDS patients. While it is not common in HCV sufferers, when RBC and WBC values drop the chances increase for many types of infections. In this case the poor fellow, although he had cleared the virus was possibly facing permanent lung damage.
So she's getting 3 antibiotics for her pneumonia and within a day her cough sounds better. She was in excrutiating pain with her cough, her legs gave out where she couldn't lift them, no fever though, green/yellow sputum, confusion, weakness, moaning, and the coloring on her was awful. To me she looked like she was dying. She's more stable now, her cough sounds better but they keep going back and forth on the pnumonia diagnosis.
I took a 10 day course of zithromax during treatment due to similar respiratory problems. I had no adverse effects. I also took a round of keflex shortly after treatment for an infection. Once again no adverse effects. I had far more problems with antibiotics before I started treatment. Just a note that the respiratory problems (coughing and out of breath) that occurred thru much of therapy went away very quickly after ending TX. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
I've got major bart symptoms, can't walk properly cos of a very bad knee, and chlamydia pneumonia is reactivated in my heart, making me out of breath adn have scary heart-thumping most of the time. The abx are clindamycin, doxy and rifampicin. Anyone used that protocol? Any opinions? I've been off abx for a year, after taking 2 years of a different protocol.
I stayed at home for several days then finally went to the doctor on May 5th 2008 who gave me a chest x-ray and said I had the start of walking pneumonia and gave me a breathing treatment and antibiotics and an inhaler. Two weeks after this my wife also had a very high fever but I do not really remember her having a cough. I did not think back to that much until lately as I have been having some symptoms and have become silently obsessed and it has consumed my entire life inside my head.
This is a real tragic story, but the pharmacy I go to has quite a few FREE antibiotics, and so some others; then as teko said, many of them have antibiotics for $4. I also agree with whomever said "get rid of the infection, the pain will go away"....... I'm not happy with our health care system, and I'm one of the lucky ones with insurance. I think too much emphasis is actually put on *insurance* and whether or not it's affordable.
Today's popular press often extols the supposed virtues of more "natural" ways of living, and approaching illness. There are a wide variety of theories and modalities, that together make up the broad category known as "complementary and alternative medicine (and veterinary medicine)." These approaches to health and disease are not monolithic and therefore their merits or lack thereof cannot be discussed as a category. Each must be examined alone.
A strong woman isn't afraid of anything… But a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of fear. There is concern that we are now experiencing a second wave of H1N1 this fall with the return of children to school. You may have H1N1 if you have fever (temperature > 100 degrees) AND either cough or sore throat. Fever is present in 94% of cases, cough in 92%. Other possible symptoms include chills, runny nose, headache, muscle ache, and in less folks, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
However, the occasional complaint of back paincontinued, most of the time when he was laying down. We took him back in to the Dr. and had more x-rays done. Then in the beginning of December he began to complain of back pain when he was in his car seat. Again, i just took it as he wanted out, nothing too alarming. It has gotten worse that now he will scream like he is in enormous pain whenever he's in the car seat. I have since paid close attention to what it is that hurts.

Also a small cup of grated carrot taken every morning is said to be offensive to all kinds of parasites. There are a million ways to get rid of the adult worms inside you, but avoiding reinfection is the hard part.
You need other antibiotics depending on what kind of strain you have you need medical attention. No money go to clinic or hosp.
If your doctor knows that your own area is experiencing an outbreak of influenza, it may be reasonable to treat with antiviral drugs, especially if your temperature is more than 100 degrees and your symptoms have lasted less than 48 hours, and you don't have pneumonia. This is because antivirals won't help if given after 2 days of symptoms. They work by stopping the spread of the virus and if you take the antiviral too late, it's too late to stop the spread, it's already happened.
The other things I could find in common didn't make sense, except eating at the PX. food court. Same choice both times. Some kind of chicken wrap. Perhaps location or food choices we may have in common? This scared the HLL out of me the first time it happened. Now, I'm used to it and sometimes I think it's gone but in reality, it is just not as intense.
Physicians should advise patients, at the first sign of tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation, to stop taking the fluoroquinolone, to avoid exercise and use of the affected area, and to promptly contact their doctor about changing to a non-fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drug. Selection of a fluoroquinolone for the treatment or prevention of an infection should be limited to those conditions that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
She is so exhausted that she can't fight no more against medical community in order to admit the origin of her symptoms and to push them to try to find a beginnning of solution. Is there any progress in the comprehension of the cause of these symptoms ? Are there some new treatments that appeared recently to counteract exhaustion and pains ? Do people group themselves in associations to better fight against this disaster ?
This is important because in a minority of cases, the flu can lead to death from complications of pneumonia. The common cold has less severe symptoms than the flu. It's more likely to have the the symptoms of cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and fever without the chills, headache, muscle aches, extreme fatigue (a tired feeling), and loss of appetite. It gets better with time.
I am only in my mid fifties and now have Osteoporsis - so Prednisone is really not good for me but there is no choice for now. I am seeing a Dr. at the University of MN Rheumatology Clinic who has treated IgG4 patients previously, just not in the area where I am affected. He is very sharp and seems on top of this disease. He has a good relationship with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the doctors there who have treated IgG4.
She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac. However, I continue to have nasty "low" days when I can barely function and have also experienced symptoms of hypoglycemia and panic attacks and or crying jags for no reason. I have been reading a lot about the Depo side effects some women have had and they mirror mine.
This is an abuse of antibiotic and is not only a waste of money but also encourages the emergence of antibiotic resistance strains of bacteria (mutation). It is bad medicine with many potential side effects including the development of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and chronic vaginitis. Why antibiotics are prescribed when they are not needed? • Patients expect and demand antibiotics for viral illness even though they know they will not work.
Bell, also looked at my pelvic floor and said that the incision was slightly open, but it would be fine. She sent me home with a bunch of antibiotics. I was still in crippling pain, so the next day I was finally able to contact Dr.Hamacher who had done the original surgery. He ordered a vaginal ultrasound to be done at the Escanaba hospital.
If it is viral pneumonia, will that get rid of it. Should I get a second opinion now or wait a couple days to see how he is. Poor thing has already lost a pound this week from not eating and drinking much.
Steroids maybe, but I guess, you don't have pneumonia already. Pneumonia means inflammation of soft lung tissue, but occassional difficult breathing is from acidic irritation and resulting spasm of BRONCHI, not from lung tissue itself. Many people on this forum reported really bad nausea with antibiotics, so, it's understandable that you don't se "any improvement". Be sure to finish the whole treatment regime, and then go and have another test for H.
In the case of delayed healing, or of a procedure that involves infected tissue, it may be necessary to provide additional doses of antibiotics for treatment of the established infection. Practitioners must exercise their own clinical judgment in determining the choice of antibiotics and number of doses that are to be administered in individual cases or special circumstances.
